IPKKND3~ep 3~5.7.17 My Impressions.. Point of no return..
It can be a time or a stage which is half way ahead, where it's too late to turn back other than to continue to the other end. The episode for me plays around the word return. A preoccupied, broody ,moody, seemingly gruff minstrel.. returns to paths once trodden. He returns now to haunt, those, whose faces churn up blood curdling memories for him. It's time to return, give back all that he received at the hands of wrong doers... raaba ve.. god help him! after sixteen years he returns.. carrying burning questions in his heart.. was it the waiting? the magnitude? or the blame that brings him back? Whatever? But this Dev/ Advay is sure .. now that he is here! henow needs to act.
Even the fervent back drop of faith.. the chants of Ram the king! who fought evil to champion the cause of righteousness.. inspires Advay as decisively his feet carry him... then amid chants of raja Ram.. a stranger going the opposite direction , crosses ways with him.. just a split second! But its like blood calls to blood.. the bond Lord Ram shared with his beloved brother Lakhsman.. A whistle from the past hits Advay and spontaneously what was in his heart.. comes out of his mouth as a loud call.. Mikku! But Ram's ,Lakshman moves on.. like life moves on. Yet the cold Advay's heart, yearns for his younger brother. Today he returns to snatch back from the jaws of time his long lost brother. The gods too are in a benevolent mood and thus after some delay the reunion of Rama and Lakhsman takes place! What a contrasting pair. Mikku the typical animated younger brother taking liberties with the older brother. Advay the aloof ,distant and formal brother. None spoke about their gut feeling towards each other. It was needless, as strangely enough, its like their spirits knew some bond linked them but then again... the dark moody musician knows how to put , getting too chummy for comfort strangers in their rightful place! Friends? Not so soon .. but a word of older brother advice for the young stud.. people don't kill time.. it's the merciless hands of time that chokes humans.. changes them from once soft hearted beings into cold hearted masses of stone. Still the whistle , the sound of the name Mikku! does reach out to the two brothers.. For Advay his purposeful return.. already has seek Mikku on his list of jobs to do! The scene is included to inform the audience of the horror an adolescent older brother goes through to save the life of his younger brother.. the painful ,daring moment when he throws Mikku off the moving train.. a horrific journey of their lives .. into the chaddar of Muslim pilgrims. Today he holds hope his brother is alive somewhere. Such dramatic irony.. both have interacted with each other. The super moment where Advay and Mikku together haul up Lord Shiva s idol is a poigant scene, where two brothers pool together physical strength and avert a serious disaster. It was also an endearing moment , where Mikku feels his older brother's feet! when he attempts to free Advay' foot.. from the steps..its bowing down out of respect.. But for Advay.. he demands the return of his brother..it's not to late to have his lost his brother at the hands of destiny! He expects his pain and loses to be compensated in some way.. Mikku's reference to dunking or soaking biscuits in one's tea, is action, usually associated with simple folks. This may well suggest too, Mikku lives a humble life..?as opposed to an affluent one. The scene shows to me.Natural blood bond between brother..mikku's..boyish teasing pitched against.Advays serious moody disposition..
Where returning to god, what belongs to him, in the form of alms becomes..an act before others to boost their own wealthy status! which in reality is only a faint impression.. Advay returns and glares at them from his vantage point.. he hears the eldest daughter in law chastise the younger bhau's about the value of the charity! The moody broody , Advay from the side ..watches the three bhaus.. his return confirms, that they have the same avarice for the offertory and alms of the temples giving . This is their best kept secret.. from the devotes but from his shrewd eye nothing is hidden. Their hypocrisy over how much ? and who deserves alms ? astounds him and others. This family believes in showing how much alms they dispense to needy! The giving of the ring , and the demand of its return, is symbolic of the loops ,lies and circles they drawn the public who see this family as images of respectability and virtue.. fake jewellery is about befooling the masses into believing that they are rich!
The box, is symbolic of something that contains and holds..In this case, the box that comes from some unknown person, contains a deep, dark secret related to this family. As Advay incognito uses his weapon of creating fear in his foes. He knows their deep, dark secret.. what they did 16 years ago..terror spreads amongst the bahu's! It's bad enough they'll have to part with ,power ,rank ,respect and riches! If the temple has closed doors , how will steaL from the Temples treasury? To maintain their power position? The guilty one knows of the past dark deed. The mind is sharp enough to predict. When the mystery letter writer plans to strike! But Advay returns to expose them.. he has already struck! His mystery letter is enough to to steal their peace and quiet!
He returns, all purpose driven.. his next stop is Chandni.. like a prowler he sights his prey and slowly approaches towards. A new look she dons.. multiple faces she has..difficult to keep tabs on her. Chandni disseminates knowledge of the scriptures to a group of foreigners in her mother tongue. He saunters by and sneers.. her medium of communication disallows the Geta from going any further than herself! Wisely she reverts to English but he scoffs! Peers rudely into her face ,makes comments about the her varied personas ..very hard to grasp. He clearly makes her uncomfortable and this gives him joy. The idea is to pick on her fears! Some past experience.. that he knows about.. he boldly debates with her about the concept of truth. He nearly chuckles at her simple narrative that truth is truth.. never anything else.. rabba ve!! this naive girl..she knows not the truth! She takes him to task and he chides her.. almost purposely gives himself away to unnerve her.. don't you know how to talk to people older than you? With respect! Chandni recalls Dev.. but panics.. he gets threateningly closer! nearly in her face.. steal her comfort away!put her in a quandary his fuming heart commands!! Mercilessly he belittles her, scoffs, she wants to meet him again.. he is demented and so full of himself..she has to get away from him.. she escapes.. him this time..
He lets her slip away.. the fear in her eyes showed him he was winning... but the night is not over yet..the cinders of the smouldering inferno in him since the past sixteen years have to singe her too! and tonight too. Not all the security in the world can save Chandni .. for Advay returns , like a bad memory.. be ready to bear the consequence of your deeds... he recalls she snitched on him and his mother! He got away.. bad for her!but his mother was burnt alive!..
The final scene where he burns her pallu.. the symbol of woman's virtue, modesty. He mocks and scoffs her.. Advay picks on her weakest point... that she was assaulted. But the truth is she was not tampered! it was suggested that she was morally corrupt.. bodily blemished..worse still! no one would believe.. time was cruel to her..she went missing for three days..then returns with a gone astray questionable virtue.. time insinuates that she has been defiled.. so is this Advay's modes operandi that he seeks revenge by wielding and casting insinuations, implications and intimations ?
The vashists best kept secret is not safe.. for Advay knows. The truth is that they steal the offertory.. gold, from mandirs, offerings made in faith by devotes, in obeisance for thanks giving or for atonement of sins.. Advay s threat hangs over their head... for they are guilty as hell..while he plays on their past related secret..
He looks down at Chandni..passed out on the wrought iron bench.. in his husky voice he explains tenderly.. gone are the days when her innocence moved him.. he blames her for snatching away his joy , his family, his everything... now he returns to do the very same with her.. strip her of all happiness.. he returns to settle his score with her...and there is no point of return for him... she stirs and his soul betrays him.. rabba ve.. oh Lord help me to overcome her.. hamlet53 6.7.17
Advay revenge is to rule over her and her family by instilling fear within them.. but fear exists where some secret is hidden.. or where guilt resides.. there's no stopping him now.. he enters her house.. which once was his.. she comes and bumps into him.. his arms catch her.. advay protects her..
