Omkara crushed another piece of paper for the fifth time and sighed! He just couldn't get to write something that woulld stop Gauri from writing letters to him. He sighed furiously at himself 'How could I think of writing something that would make her hate me,when I myself started loving her?'I can't get her to hate myself! I just cant!'

Rudra who was standing near the door saw the turmoil his brother Omkara was facing.

"Main abhi bhi keh raha hoon ki aapne aap se ladna bandh kijiye aur yeh jo aap woh anjaani Gauri ke liye mehsoos kar rahe hai usse apna lijiye"

(I'm still telling you to stop fighting with yourself and accept your feelings for Gauri)

Omkara turned around and saw Rudra. For the first time in life he felt that his brother was saying something sensible. He wanted to believe that he had a future with Gauri, he wanted to be happy with Gauri, he wanted to live for himself for the first time in life but then his past will always hold and bind his hands from accepting love.

"Kya hua bhaiyya?"

(What happened, brother?)

"Kuch nahi Rudy. Main jaanta hoon ki jo tu keh raha hai woh sahi hai yakeen maan mein bhi maanna chahta hoon lekin main Gauri ko paane ke baad khona nahi chahta aur isiliye shayad yeh mushkil hai lekin yahi sahi hai"

(Nothing Rudy. I know whatever you are saying is the truth and trust me even I want to believe it but I don't want to lose her after accepting her. I know it's difficult but this is what is right)

Rudra was fed up of making Om understand. Finally giving up he decides to take things in his own hands. He knew if he let Omkara know his intention then he'll never allow, so now hatches a plan.

"Okay! Fine! You don't want to forget the past and move on then I will not force you but you'll have to promise me onething"

"What?"

"If Gauri sends a another letter then you'll not get to read it"

"What? No! Never!"

"No O, you have to do onething. Just think about Gauri she'll be writing letters to you expecting you to atleast reply but you won't tell her anything. She'll be again heartbroken bhaiyya"

Omkara looked at Rudra thoughtfully. What he was saying was right! If he was not ready to accept her love then he shouldn't give her any expectations too, so he agreed.

"Theeknhai"

(Okay)

"Can you cook some pasta for me,O?I'm hungry!"

Omkara chuckled at his baby brother and left for making pasta after ruffling his hair.
As soon as Omkara left Rudra smiled to himself.

"Waah Rudy! Tu toh kamal ka hai! Abb agar mere plan ke mutabik chale toh kuch hi din mein hum ghar wapas jaane waale hai"

(Wow Rudy! You're great! Now, if everything goes according to my plan then it is not far away that we'll be going back home.)

Here, Gauri was getting restless. It was more than a month that Omkara had written a letter to her. She herself restrained herself from writing letters to him because she wanted to know whether he felt the same and second it was him who wrote rudely to her and therefore he should apologise.

"Yaar Richa woh toh mujhe kuch letter likh hi nahi raha"

(Richa! He's not writing me any letter!)

"Then why don't you write one? Tu bhi toh kabse uske letter ke liye wait kar rahi hai waise bhi teri baari thi"

(Then why don't write one? You are only waiting for his letter you should remember that it was your turn to write the letter)

"Nahi.Maun kyun likhu? Usne mujhse rudely baat ki thi maine nahi ki! Toh pehle usse apologise karna hoga!"

(No! Why should I write one? He was the one who spoke rudely not me! Then he should apologize to me first!)

"Gauri you should also remember that you wrote something that hurt him, and his letter was just the repercussion"

"Richa how many times do I have to tell you that I did not write something that would be an insult or would be a matter he doesn't want to discuss! I just said that I wanted to meet him"

"But I still don't see the problem in writing a sorry and moving on. Maybe he doesn't want to meet you at this moment. Give him sometime"

"So should I write one letter?" Gauri asked

"Write one without mentioning anything about meeting him and apologize"

"Fine"

Rudra was smiling looking at Omkara who was furious.

"Why are you smiling like a maniac?" Omkara asked Rudra furiously.

"Kuch nahi,O aapki Gauri ka khat aaya tha toh ussi ko padh ke hass raha hoon. Aapne kabhi bataya nahi ki woh itni funny hai"

(Nothing,O! Your Gauri has sent a letter! I'm laughing reading this. You never said that Gauri can be so funny)

"What?!? Gauri has sent a letter? Aur tu mujhe yeh abhi bata raha hai?! De mujhe padh na hai!"

(What ? Gauri has sent a letter and you are telling me this bow?! Give to me I want to read it)

"Why?"

"What do you mean by why? My Gauri has written a letter for me and you are asking why?" Omkara asked exasperated

"My Gauri?! Wow Om! Just tell me when did she become yours?"

"Ah---"

"Anyway you said you won't write back any letters so why read it?!"

"Rudy please!"

"Nahi. Agar aapne letter padha toh aapko jawab bhi dena padega! Doge?"

(No. If you want to read the letter then youbwould have to reply also. Will you?)

"Nahi."

(No.)

"Bass toh bhul jao.Bye!" Rudra left from Omkara's room without waiting for his reply.

(Okay then forget it. Bye!)

"What does he think of himself?! Woh letter nahi dega toh main le paaunga? Issi ghar mein rehta hai woh. Aab dekh main kya karta hoon"

(What does he think of himself!? He'll not give me the letter, I won't be able to read it? He lives here itself! Just wait and watch what I do now!)

It was late at night when Omkara sneakily entered Rudra's room to steal the letter. As soon as he entered, Omkara tripped on a dumbbell. He stopped to see Rudra turning. After sometime he proceeded towards his study table. He flipped few files when he saw the letter and smiled victoriusly. "What did he think ki woh apne room mein letter rakh dega aur main nahi loonga? Too bad Rudy atleast you should have kept it somewhere difficult". He again saw Rudra turning in sleep so he quickly left the files on his study and left. As soon as he left, the lights of Rudra's room came on and Rudra sat up and smiled!

(What did he think that by taking the letter to his roon I won't be able to find it. Too bad Rudy! You should have atleast hid it somewhere difficult)

"Aab kya kare O aapko jeetane ke liye kabhi kabhi khud haarana padta hai! Chalo ab mera kaam toh ho gaya aab main chala sone!"

(What to do, O? To make you win I had to loose! Now that my work is done let me go back and sleep)

Omkara comes back to his room and opens the letter hurriedly. He received Gauri's letter after more than a month! He actually wanted to know what Gauri had written that made Rudy laugh so hard because he knew Gauri would not write something funny atleast after how rudely he wrote his letter. He opens the letter and starts to write it.

Dearest Omkara,
I'm really sorry that I wrote something that you were not ready to hear. If you don't want to meet it is completely fine! But why did you stop writing to me? Did you not miss me at all in these days!? I'm angry at you because of this!

Anyway coming back to how these months were let me tell you they went pathetic! I waited for you to write a letter you did not! My boss got changed and he is being an arse since day 1 so and so forth! Anyway let me know about your side too. How have you been? how your days were?

By the way you don't want to meet me is okay! But we can still talk to each other right!?

I knew it! I was right all along! So I leave you my landline number and I'll wait for your call.
As much as I want to see you I too want to keep the mystery of not seeing ecah other so here's my landline number 56****82

Omkara went through a whirlpool of emotions while reading the letter. At first, he was guilty that she was apologizing for no mistake of hers but was all smiles looking at her usual banter. His heart broke when he saw that Gauri has left her number in the letter. It meant only one thing ; trust. Gauri trusted him enough, a stranger to leave her number with. He sighed as tears started to fall from his eyes. He will never be able to forget that day, the day when he lost everything that was precious to him. But he couldn't let Gauri to succumb in his darkness. Gauri was free spirited and deserved someone much better. With this zeal he started writing his last letter to Gauri.

Gauri knew that after reading her letter Omkara would not be able to fight his urge to not write back.

"I just hope he gets the hint!" Gauri was happy that she had indirectly confessed her liking towards him. She knew Omkara enough to understand that he was hilding something back. She just wanted to assure him that no matter what she'll be there for him.

"Gauri?"

"Yes Richa?"

"Your letter has come."

Gauri quickly snatched the latter from her and went to her room. "You go! I'll join you in a bit!" She shouted and closed the door.

Without any delay she teared the envelope and started reading the letter.

Gauri.

You do not need to apologize for no mistake of yours at the first place. I'm sorry that I couldn't catch your feelings for me.

Gauri, I know that you've started liking me for sometime now but I don't. True that I missed you in these months that we didn't communicate but it was just beacuse I missed my friend.

You had written a love letter to Arjun which got delivered to me and thus we started talking. I knew that you were heartbroken and I just tried to heal you as friend. I'm sorry if any of my gesture led you on.

You trust me enough to leave me your number. And I Gauri can be everything but trustworthy. I know you want to know that chapter of my life but it is best kept secret!

So Gauri Kumari Sharma this my last letter to you and I'm extremely sorry that I couldn't reciprocate your feelings.

You are a great girl and deserve much better in life. I wish you all the best and may you actually get whatever you wish for .

And, do not expect my call.

Gauri was surprisingly not shocked receiving the letter. She somehow knew that Omkara would write such a thing. She smiled at the letter understanding that even he had feelings for her.

"Omkara I'm really glad that you too like me and this time I'm not going to give up. I will fight for you till I you accept defeat. It is okay that you won't be writing back but I will always fill you with my life."

Gauri was determined this time. She started writing him letters almost everyday about her days, her dreams , what she plans to do after marrying him and so on. Days passed into months but her determination never faltered. She loved him without any expectations from him. She had faith in her love. She knew that her love for him will weaken his resolve and make him accept her.

There were days when she felt helpless and lost but her faith had always won.

FEW DAYS LATER

Gauri was writing a letter to Omkara as usual when there was a knock on the door.

"Kaun hai?"

(Who is it?)

"Main hoon, Richa."

(I am, Richa)

"Arre Richa tu kabse knock karne lagi!" Gauri asked.

(When did you started knocking?)

Richa looked visibly disturbed. She knew that Gauri wrote endless letters to Omkara with no expectations but she also knew that Gauri continued writing because she knew he was there living in Delhi.

"Richa? Kya hua? Bata na? You look very disturbed?! Is everything alright?"

(Richa? What happened? Tell me! You look very disturbed! Is everything alright?)

"Gauri, actually..."

"What? Now you're scaring me!"

"The letter which you had written it to Omkara..."

"Yes? Did he reply! Is that you have in your han?" Gauri squealed in happiness. Finally her prayers were being answered. Omkara had finally written it back to her.
But Richa's heart broke looking at her. How could someone's fate be so cruel!? she thought.

"Arre kya hua? Bata na? Kaha kho ja rahi hai?"

(What happened? Tell? Where are you lost?)

"The letter which you had sent Omkara has been undelivered. I called the postal service and they informed that their men went to deliver the letter but the house was locked. When asked, the neighbours informed that the family had shifted. I'm sorry Gauri it is not his letter."

Gauri's world came crashing down. She used to write all her letters because she knew that he read them, she knew that it always brought a smile on his face. His smile was the only reward that kept her going all these months. To hear that her letter was undelivered meant only one thing to her; that he rejected her. He left her and vanished into thin air that she never meant anything to him. Gauri was too blank to even react. She stood in front of Richa with no expression.

"Gauri? Gauri?"

"Leave"

"Gauri I understand.."

"Leave Richa!"

"Gauri please"

"I said Leave Richa please let me be alone for sometime."

One loom at Gauri, Richa understood it is best to leave her aline for sometime so without a word she unwillingly left her. As soon as Richa left Gauri broke down.

"Kyun bhagwan kyun? Aakir kya dushmaani hai aapki? Maine kya bigaara hai aapka? Maine aaj tak kabhi aapse kuch nahi shikayat nahi ki? Aapne mujhe anaath banaya maine kuch nahi kaha! Aapne mujhse Arjun ko cheena maine kuch nahi kaha? Ab jab main thodi si khush ho rahi thi aapko usse bhi problem hai? Kyun?" she sobbed.

(Why God? Why? What enmity do you have with me? What did I do to you? Never have I ever complained to you reagarding my fate! You made me an orphan but I never complained! You took away Arjun but I never complained! Now that I was a little happy with Omkara you have a problem with that also? Why?)

Things had taken a downward spiral after that. The ever so jubliant chirpy Gauri was gone. She was dead. Even Arjun who had come back after Richa told him everything could not Gauri back to her own self. She fed when she was feeded, slept when she had to. All she did was sit beside her phone and waited. Waited for one call, one call from Omakra but it never ringed.

TWO MONTHS LATER.

Gauri was as usual sitting beside the landline like she used to do everyday. It had become her usual spot. She left her job and sat their waiting for his call. Some uncanny faith worked in her that made her feel that Omkara would surely call her one day. It broke Richa's heart to see Gauri like that. She had tried a lot of times to speak to her but Gauri had always refused.

Gauri was lost in her thoughts when suddenly her phone rang. She looked up with a jerk as the phone kept ringing. Her heart started beating fast as she contemplated whether to pick up the call.
'Am I dead? Is it actually ringing? Is it Omkara? Am I dreaming? Should I pick it up?' and the phone went silent.

After sometime the phone again rang. Gauri with bated breath and tears flowing from her eyes picked up the call.

"Hello?"

No answer.

"Hello? Is anybody there on the other side?"

No answer.

"Hello Omkara? Is it you? Please answer!" tears started flowing from her eyes. When suddenly there was an answer.

"Hi Gauri." and her world stopped.
