Hello friends,
Second episode of the drabble is up and a note to all readers below.
NOTE : A few clarifications below
1. The title 'A Homecoming' is not just in physical scope, but also a metaphor for Gauri trying to find herself, and when she does, it will be a true homecoming for her.
2. This is essentially a Rikara love story with an ensemble cast - more characters to be introduced.
3. KT is Kaali Thakur who is a charismatic and successful media mogul. He is not a villain, just a grey character.
I hope you enjoy, without much ado, here it goes:
Chapter 2: The Memory
Gauri was crying in her office, she had shut the rest of the staff out; she could not let them see her cry, or having a moment of weakness. She was strong, or rather ruthless, that's how she wanted them to know her and that's how they knew her, except those close to her, like Rudra.
Rudra was walking to and fro outside Gauri's office door, wondering if he should knock, but then he didn't want to disturb her. But he was also worried about her. G was ruthless, for others, but for him, she was like a sister, a relation he never had.
Tears were streaming down Gauri's face, a deluge which she had contained for so many years was out and she didn't know how to stop it.
Gauri's flashback:
"Gauru, come on, throw the dart, I need that toy Mansi tugged at her friends sleeve.
"Ok Mansi, wait, hang on Gauri asked the stall-keeper for the darts.
She then took aim and threw the darts one after another aiming at the eye on the board.
All three darts hit the exact center.
"Yeh...Gauru you did it again Mansi was jumping up and down with happiness.
"Uncle, I want the teddy she requested the shop-keeper for Gauri's price win.
Both friends were very happy, when Mansi's mother came rushing, "Girls come on, it's starting.
All three of them rushed to the center of the fair where a stage was set and three men were sitting on top of it.
Gauri looked fondly at the man in the middle her dad.
Harshvardhan Sharma, Tej Oberoi and Shakti Raizada (Mansi's father) were singing together on the stage.
"Jeevan ke din chote sahi, hum bhi bade dilwale. Kal ki hume phursat kahan...
Gauri and Mansi listened intently, they adored their fathers. The three men were friends since childhood in this little village close to Pondicherry, just like Gauri and Mansi and ... he were. They were inseparable and their friendship very strong. They were more like brothers than friends.
After the show the girls clapped and applauded.
It was a happy day one she would never forget for the rest of her life. But she was missing him, despite their differences; she still had a special place for him in her heart.
The next week, ten year old Gauri was on the port with her father, wishing goodbye to Mansi.
"Mansi, I will miss you so much. Gauri was crying hugging her little friend and so was Mansi.
"Come Gauri. I am sorry beta, I have to send you away. I cannot look after you here, it's just us two, and I have to join the navy again. I will be gone for six months, who will take care of you? That's why I am sending you to USA to live with your Masi. You will have very good education and cousins to play with.
He gave her a notebook and said, Write what you feel in this, or if you want to talk to me, and one day you can show it to me. I will come to meet you soon. Harshvardhan Sharma was a strong man, but this time, tears didn't stop from his eyes either.
Flashback ends.
