PART II B
MAGIC OF MEMORY BOX!
As he walked with Anika hand in hand into her past she looked at Shivaay and thought, "My Yesterday walks with me, they keep step, and they are grey faces that peer over my shoulder.
Reading her thoughts he answered with concern, "Walk with me when your heart needs company and Take my hand when you feel alone. Turn to me when you need somebody to lean on, because I'm the one you can always depend on.
They drove for some time with the dark clouds being their constant companion. When the Car came to a halt Anika looked ahead towards the colony. After some thought, she got out of the car and started walking towards a certain house. Shivaay was astonished to see her like that, It felt as if her feet knew where to go. Like someone was guiding her and them from above! Without looking back she kept walking until her feet halted her in front of a certain house and then she looked back and searched for Shivaay who was right behind her with a equally surprised expression.
Before rining the bell, he asked, "Do u remember this place or the house. How did you find your way towards it?
"I don't know Shivaay but it felt like I have a connection to this home, someone guided me here, whose house is it and why are we here?
He smiled, "You will know, for now ring the bell
*TING TONG*
Kaka opened the house and took some time to recognise her. But much to everybody's amazement she remembered him and hugged him immediately and walked in to greet aunty. In the house Shivaay found his old Anika at ease with her herself chatting away to glory with her Uncle and Aunty. Keeping the bad times away she went on about her married life with Shivaay. How she met him and what a beautiful home they have. She spoke about her orphanage as well and told them about Sahil who was away at boarding school now.
Uncle's expression grimed at the mentioned of the Orphanage. His blood boiled at the thought that how her parent's brother and his wife had taken advantage of the situation. Within two days they had sold the house to them for money and took both the girls away saying, "We will take care of them as our children.
Uncle took particular care of not mentioning about her sister yet as Shivaay had mentioned a day before not to tell her as she is still under treatment and he needed some time before he broke this news to her. After some time Anika went all silent once again and Shivaay nudged her a little to see the house. "Why don't you have a look at your old house?
She asked permission from Uncle and went in to explore her old house, remembering whatever she could. Though the house looked different from what it was when she lived with her parents here. However a voice of two girls playing hide & seek in the corridor kept coming to her.
"1..2...3...4...chutki main aa rahi hun tujhe dhundne, kahan hai tu
"Main yahan hun didi, mujhe pakdo mujhe pakdo!
Confused who was the other girl in the conversation she ventured out to meet Shivaay. They had lunch together and after that Kaka handed her a box. Surprised what it could be, he told her, When we shifted here, we found this in the house. These are a few things left from your father. I have never opened it and have waited all these years to give it to you. I was sure that one day you would come and take it from me. These are the last of memories you're your parent. Go home and open it and see what is it that your father wanted to say to you.
Tears welled up in Anika's eyes as she held the box. Aunty held her and said, "We couldn't take care of you then but we promise to take care of you now. From here on whenever you miss your parents, come to us.
Anika nodded in affirmation and bid them Goodbye along with Shivaay.
In the car she was all quiet. Shivaay gave her some space and drove back with dark clouds still hovering them. It was evening when they reached home. Once home, Anika took to her room and closed the room from behind with the magic box. But Shivaay knocked, " I'm upstairs on the roof, If you need me
Her voice said, " Yes
He was equally anxious to know what was in that memory box but he wanted to give time to Anika to get through with it. So he made himself a cup of coffee and went to the roof to find some solace.
In the room it felt that the younger version of Anika opened the magic box full of memories from her parents. The sky roared as if to let go and grant the earth some rains. First, she saw the picture of hers with her parents in happy times. She must be four years old in the picture. Her father had held her so lovingly with her mother by his side. There were few pictures of her 4th birthday with a note on it,
My precious baby,
So very sweet
Tender soft skin and tiny feet
Look Inside
And you will see
How much you are loved and mean to me...
She remembered some toys that she used to play with, some toffee wrappers she had collected that were given by her father so lovingly! The box had some sarees of her mother that she used to adore on her. There was a wrist watch of her father showing the time as 9 pm mirroring the time that was now. At last there was a letter and a photograph. With a heavy heart she first opened the letter and read it loud,
Dear Anika
Tears now streaming down her cheek, she now opened the photograph and was surprised to see four of them on it. Wait four of them? Who was the other girl? Was she the voice she had heard in the house while playing hide n seek? She really tried remembering her but the more she tried remembering, more headache she got.
So she stopped for some time and read the last words by her father
"Like a bird singing in the rain. Let the grateful memories survive in the time of sorrow.
Understanding the gravity of words written by her father she ran out in search of Shivaay. She searched the whole house but then remembered he was upstairs. When she reached the roof she was greeted by the first rain of the season, as a raindrop landed on her cheek it felt as if it was a kiss from someone that lives in heaven & was watching over her.
Through the tears in her eyes and smile on her face she saw Shivaay standing at the corner of the roof getting drenched in the rain. Requesting God, to wash away his wife's pains. Asking him to give back his wife or atleast guide him towards it. As he was soaked in his thoughts she hugged him from behind. Not being this close to his wife for a long time now, it jolted him out of his reverie. He could feel her crying, so he moved back and held her tightly in his embrace.
For some time they just stood like that in the rain, which was growing heavier by the minute. Just holding each other like that not saying a word, trying to understand what the other wanted to convey.
"I don't regret the rain or the nights I felt the pain or the tears I had to cry some of those times along the way. For Every road I had to take, every time my heart would break it was just something I had to do, to get me to You.
She realised that Shivaay was her only family. Despite of everything that happened a month back, he stood rock solid with her against his family. She cant change the past but she can definitely hold on to the present and make sure of her future with Shivaay. Her father's last words ringing in her ears she owned Shivaay more strongly telling herself, at that time she was helpless and couldn't fight her destiny but today she will.
It poured all night as if the rains wanted to let go that it held for so long. Healing Mother Nature of the drought. Paving the way to for a better season. Back in their rooms drenched in the rain they changed and got into their rooms separately. However with the rains and the revelation of the magic box something had changed. That night Anika walked out of her past (read her room) into her future with Shivaay (read his room). Closing the door behind She got in to bed rightly by his side and held him close. With the sound of the rain pouring in the backdrop and wife back in his arms, in sleep holding her closer he smiled understanding,
God did not promise days without pain,
Laughter without sorrow or sun without rain
But he did promise strength for the day
Comfort for the tears
And light for the way!
