He has been hiding a habit from her,
She has been hiding a secret,
Are they aware of each other's hidden habit and secret ?
Warning: Not a happy part...
He has been hiding a habit from her... well not just from her... from everyone... He doesn't know when exactly it started but Omkara cannot bring himself to quit... and truthfully, he does not even feel remotely inclined to try... It is an odd habit for him, the man who has always looked beyond what is physically before him in a bid to find deeper meaning, but he often finds himself with his gaze stuck on his wife, observing her keenly... the way she talks... laughs... moves... her little idiosyncrasies that come together and form the true Gauri Kumari Sharma who has stolen his once reclusive heart...
But the thing with Omkara Singh Oberoi is, that he never made lasting commitments for a reason - for him commitment cannot be half-hearted or insincere, it has to be real. He had always known, and is very aware today also, that his love can only grow and never diminish. Every day... every hour... every minute... every second... he falls a little more in love with her. As he observes her tending to his relations... as he watches her give her all to keep all the members of his family satisfied... as he glimpses her childish nature shining through in little stolen moments of joy... as they share nano-seconds of bliss in their unnecessarily complicated lives. For Omkara, his feelings always need an outlet, so after so many months of patiently observing his Chirraiya, he has decided to take the next step... He has decided to trade in his hidden habit of watching her for a much more enjoyable habit he can actually share with her... It is time for them to start their married life... in the biblical sense...
Little does Omkara know, that before the bodies can become one, there is still much for him to learn about his Gauri...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Omkara impatiently laid on his side of the bed in wait of his wife. Gauri was still bustling about in the kitchen when he had retired early from one of the mansions lounge areas, where the rest of the family had congregated for some family time. As he had passed by, he had requested her to follow him shortly, using the excuse that he needed a glass of milk before he slept. Omkara knew she must have found his desire unusual, but he had breezed past before she could interrogate him and he knew she would be along shortly. Stretching out his arm, he contemplated the fact that his bed was far too large, and his wife far too tiny to justify it... it was a matter he would have to look into...
"OmkaraJi... Aapka dhood.. OmkaraJi... Your milk..." In his random musings he had failed to register her entrance. Already she had placed the milk on his night stand and was turning to head back to join the family.
"Rukho, Gauri... Stop, Gauri..." He grabbed her wrist and sat up, simultaneously pulling her to sit beside him on their bed.
"Kya hua, OmkaraJi? Aapko kuch aur chahiye? What happened OmkaraJi? Do you want something else?" Gauri looked at him, puzzled.
"Haan... mujhe kuch chahiye... Yes... I want something..." He leaned in closer to her, his voice having dropped to a husky whisper.
"K-kya? W-what?" Gauri's voice had also dropped to a whisper but one drenched in nervousness, not desire.
"Tum. You." Omkara kept his hold on her arm and his eyes on hers, whilst using his free hand to take hold of the glass on the nightstand and taking a sip before offering it to her.
Not taking the extended glass, Gauri stuttered back, "H-hum kuch samjhe nahin... A-aap kya kehna chahte hain? I-I did not understand... W-what are you trying to say?"
"Pehle yeh peeloh, phir main tumhe samjhata hoon. First drink this, then I shall explain to you." Omkara's voice was gentle, but he had not yet released his hold on her arm and that alarmed Gauri greatly. Obediently, she grabbed the glass, taking first one gulp and then another at his urging. Pretty soon he had made her drink all the milk.
Taking the glass from her now shaking fingers, he placed it back on the nightstand, finally releasing her arm. Before she could create some much-needed distance between them however, he grabbed both her hands and tugged them towards him, effortlessly bring them even closer together.
"O-OmkaraJi, yeh aap- O-OmkaraJi, what are you-" she weakly attempted to protest, but he took no heed.
"Gauri, tumhe nahin lagta ke ab humme humare rishte koh aage baraana chahiye? Gauri. Don't you think that we should take our relationship forward?" Omkara smiled at her cutely, but for some reason it only seemed to make her even more hesitant.
"A-aage? A-aap ka kya matlab hai? F-forward? W-what do you mean?" She was not only stuttering but her body was quivering a little. Thinking her nervousness stemmed from her naivety Omkara decided it was best to direct her, rather than confuse her with explanations.
"Woh main baad mein dikhata hoon, pehle tum comfortable ho jao... Kapre badla loh... I will explain that to you later, first you get comfortable... Change your clothes..." He released his hold on her hands, motioning her to head to the washroom.
"W-woh humme abhi neeche jaana hai... sab abhi jaage hue hain... agar kisi koh kuch chahiye hoga... Actually I have to go downstairs now... everyone is still awake... if anyone needs something..." She trailed off at his look of disapproval.
"Kuch chahiye hoga toh yah toh servants se kahenge, ya khud leh lenge. Iss ghar mein koi bachcha nahin hai, tum fikar mat karo. If they need anything they will either tell the servants, or get it for themselves. There is no kid in this house, don't worry." He let a little of his impatience seep into his voice and thankfully Gauri took the cue and stopped arguing, instead grabbing her nightsuit and heading to the washroom.
Laying back down, Omkara took a few steadying breaths. He needed to be very careful. Although he was very experienced himself, he had not ever been with somebody who was not. Gauri meant far too much to him and he did not want to hurt her in any way. The effect she had on him was immense and a major reason for his volatile temper around her, but tonight he would have to keep himself fully in check. It would be very hard, but he would take any kind of anguish in order to safeguard her. Omkara had contemplated decking their bedroom with flowers and lights... creating the atmosphere... gifting her some extravagant clothing... but that was not what he envisioned for them. His vision for them was plain and simplistic. He wanted to worship her in every way he knew how. He didn't want pressure or stereotypical barriers. Tonight they would be a man and his wife... tonight was a night to break down barriers... Like his perfect canvas, he wanted to begin blank and normal and create... create fire... create passion... perhaps even create life...
So involved in his own thoughts he was, that it did not even register to Omkara that Gauri was taking abnormally long in the washroom. When she finally emerged, it felt like only seconds had passed, because he had been too busy weaving the vision of a little girl with hazel eyes and her mother's smile. As she fiddled around the room, adjusting curtains that were perfectly in place or rearranging her bangles on their dresser, he said nothing. Silently, he observed his subdued wife as she found distractions that kept her from their bed. Finally he said, "Gauri.
It had not been loud at all, but she jumped and scuttled forwards, as if she were about to sprint out of the door. Instead, she took a deep breath and approached her side of their bed. Slowly, she sat on the edge, then laid down, her back now towards him. Omkara gave her a few moments to collect herself, then slowly moved towards her, trying his best to keep his movements relaxed, so as not to panic her. Gently, he grabbed her shoulder and turned her towards himself, placing one hand on her soft cheek. Caressing his nose against the other check, he deftly presses a kiss there... then another... then yet another... slowly, his kisses moved downward and he came even closer, now hovering above her. Gauri was still as cardboard, barely reacting to his caresses. Thinking it would take a little time for her to overcome her nerves and respond, Omkara continued. It was as he'd placed one leg over her and removed her dupatta, that he felt her begin to move. Only it wasn't encouraging movement. Gauri had begun to tremble.
Not wanting to drag the moment out and increase her trepidation, Omkara moved to pull down the zipper of her nightsuit. It was then, with his arms enclosing her and leg covering hers, that she began to struggle. Immediately Omkara withdrew, but she was not pushing him off anymore... Gauri was pushing against invisible figures and he could only watch helplessly as she began to weep. She was not screaming, but her muted struggles were somehow much more horrific. Collecting himself, Omkara tried to calm her down. Realizing that his touch would not be welcomed, he called out to her in the calmest voice he could muster.
Slowly, her jerky movements began to halt and Gauri stilled. Omkara could see she had worn herself out and was not at all surprised that she had succumbed to sleep. What had just happened? Why had Gauri reacted so violently? As if his touch was unwelcome... As if she was suffering through a brutal assault... She had never behaved like this before...
Unbidden a memory came to mind... A bedroom decked for a first night... A drunk Gauri... 'Khabardaar! Haath mat lagaana humein! Don't you dare! Don't touch me!'
Another memory, of her pushing him away from her after he tried to romance her in an inebriated state. He remembered that she had thrown him off herself and it was the main reason he had been so skeptical of her tale of pregnancy.
Yet another memory of her hesitance after he had consumed her 'BabaJi ki Bhooti'. She had said it was for all married couples right? So why had nothing happened between them that night?
So many questions, but no presenting answers. Only Gauri held the key to this mystery, but Omkara was not so sure he would be able to tolerate this truth. Sleep escaped the tense husband for that night as he watched over his wife.
As he lay awake, another troubling thought plagued him... tonight indeed had been a night of breaking barriers... he had broken down a wall Gauri kept around herself... but who knew what he would find on the other side once the dust settled...
Umm... that's it. Drop a hint or a like if you feel like it... if you're feeling especially generous drop both?😳
