The One year Anniversary of the perfection that is RiKara is coming up so let's work our way up to it.

It was during 22:30-23:00 on Monday 13th February 2017, when I fell for a couple on a new show - India's very first spin off series. I climbed onboard a ship and set sail on a then untold adventure... and it looked truly promising. There was a dashing hero who had locked away his delicate heart, a feisty heroine who held her own against him and a terrifying villain like no other I've encountered on the small screen. Now, approaching a year later, I look back and reminisce this turbulent journey and feel a mix of emotions. I feel indebted to have discovered such beautiful characters both individually and jointly.

Stripping it back to what the two characters are as individuals, then we have a girl who thrives on belief and and a man who has lost his belief in most things.

Gauri is someone who has seen hardship (I mean from what we've seen of her Maa, she can't look after herself, let alone independently raise a child), she never had a real childhood, but despite all of that I see her as an innocent. Probably the most innocent on the show (barring Rudra, who ShivOm have babied to the extreme - but that's what makes his character lovable because despite being so spoiled he has a good heart... OK gonna Shut up about Rudra now), because although she can handle herself against villains and all, she understands very little about relationships. The reason I found it so hard to believe Om never questioned his misunderstandings about her is because she just doesn't understand the complexity of a mature relationship. It is all fiction and Shiv Parvati for her. There is no deceit veiled behind beauty in her mind, which is why her initial reaction to Svetlana was confusion: Why would a woman be a threat to her fiance? Why would she spy on her fiance? She avoids initiating contact with Om because she doesn't understand the effect she can have on him, and takes his every reaction as anger, every frustration as anger. Does he never wonder why she hasn't taken advantage of her beauty, or rather is it the extent that he's attracted to her that makes Om convinced she is purposefully enticing him? Either way she sees marriage as a golden opportunity to happiness and even her short tenure as GOSO (how wonderful it has been), has not changed her mind on that.

On the other hand we have Omkara, who has seen the worst kind of marriage. For his mother marriage was the sweet honey trap that sucked her in, clipped her wings, and grounded her for life. For his father marriage was just an inconvenience and the relationship he had no desire to nurture. I personally don't think Om fears becoming his mother in marriage - he's had relationships previously and was always open to the idea of falling in love. I think his deep rooted fear is falling out of love. Once upon a time Jhanvi and Tej loved each other enough that she eloped from home to marry him, then after marriage and children he fell out of love. I think Om worries that if he marries then he will one day fall out of love with his wife, and that will turn him into Tej Singh Oberoi - his worst nightmare. Om's issue is not with Gauri, his issue is with himself.

The problem is that Om's worries are beyond Gauri's comprehension, so she needs to see more of TejKara interaction, as it's the only way for her to understand him. As for Omkara, I think when he finally falls in love fully, his worries will mean nothing. He will love Gauri so fully that there will be no other option than binding her to him, and once he feels real love he will become sure that there is no way to fall out of it, as it will become his reason to breathe.

That's the stage I think Omkara is at now - but we get so little of their viewpoint so can we really tell?

Omkara Singh Oberoi

The artistic soul reared by a business family. The man who shouldered so much grief at a young age that his shoulder broke - he didn't know where to turn. The black sheep of the Oberois, who never ranked Naam, Khoon or Khandaan. Tej Singh Oberoi's heir - the rebel with the long hair. The man who forged his own path. The man whose patience ran thin in the face of constant atrocity. The result of his mother's love. A man in agony. This was the man who appeared on that first day in Bareilly.

Gauri Kumari Sharma

The Dabanng Chirraya, with an ever-present smile on her face. The playful girl who fluttered among the children like an impassioned butterfly. The brave-heart who found hope (vishwaas) in the most hopeless of situations. In the darkness she focused on a flicker of light until it became a full beam... why mourn a lost leg when you had life left in you? The girl who kept believing in her Shankarji no matter the circumstance. A girl ready to grasp at life. This was the girl who appeared on that first day in Bareilly.

RiKara

Two opposing forces... one so shut off, the other an open book... they both crossed one another's paths and our story began. The man who had forgone any semblance of hope had arrived in the hometown of the girl who lived and breathed it. A light had come to illuminate Omkara's darkness. A saathiya had arrived to take Gauri's hand and lead her to safety...

First impressions leave their marks and the perfect example of that was the first meeting of Omkara Singh Oberoi and Gauri Kumari Sharma. They clashed from the word go, but not because they were different... they clashed due to misunderstandings. It was never a matter of ego... it was always due to mistaking the intentions of the other...

Omkara was in a haze of pain at the beginning of DBO when he first encountered Gauri. He saw the world as the enemy and had desensitized himself to the pain of others. He'd built a cold front to defend his fragile heart from more torture. Love in his POV was a ghata ka sauda' a deal that would always be riddled in loss and he did not want that in his life. He made himself into the most unattractive version of himself he could imagine (not realizing his inner-beauty can never be concealed) and faced the world with a protective mask on. Kunal was amazing in emoting yet simultaneously hiding Omkara's true feelings it's no easy feat, so kudos to him. It was this Omkara who threw money in Gauri's face and hurt her self-respect barely minutes into their first encounter. She did not know him, so his action coloured her view of him immediately. A bad first impression.

'Aapko aapke samne gire hue paise nazar aarahe hain, aur humein... ek gira hua insaan...'

'You see fallen money before you... I see a fallen man...'

Whilst Omkara was embroiled in his own personal agony and his cryptic words were more than likely aimed at stopping a TejLana union (Kunal's expressions said it all, yet showed nothing at the same time he was absolutely spot-on!), Gauri mistook them as a slight to her mother after all had she not just suffered through all of ChachiJi's insinuations? and she reacted in kind...

'Mere raaste mein joh bhi aayega, who kuchla jaayega.'

'Whoever comes in my way will be crushed.'

However, Gauri was no less than him and her temper was high. Of course, that was mostly a result of the precarious situation she found herself in that day with her mother's life hanging in the balance and very little time to earn 10,000 rupees. Shrenu acted beautifully here and I could really see the moment when Gauri's thin grasp on her patience broke at Omkara's misinterpreted words. I could see the change as she went from respectfully disobedient to full-on warrior-mode and it truly made me fall in love with Gauri Kumari Sharma.

'Ek Jhaap mein deewar peh satjaaiy beh! Meri Maa koh kuchlega?! Meri Maa koh?!'

'I'll hit you against a wall with just one slap! You will crush my mother?! My mother?!'

Perhaps it would have ended at that... He would have given her his coldest look and had her forcibly removed, never remembering the spirited young girl who had disrespected him... She would have found the solution to her problems and never thought of the ill-mannered man again... But fate had other plans... Gauri's hold on her temper was broken and she lashed out verbally too. She questioned his upbringing and his parents' love for him - something I have been questioning since the start of Ishqbaaaz and a question that I am sure must be a constant burden on Omkara's mind. This time she touched his raw nerve and VolcanoKara exploded...

But there is a reason Gauri Kumari Sharma is Omkara's true Saathiya our girl would never take someone's attack on her hope lying down. She is he equal and theirs is a true partnership. Her small shop was the source from which she hoped to save her mother and Omkara crushed it with his expensive car... He went after her vishwaas and Shrenu's eyes emoted all the rage Gauri would have felt at that point perfectly (round of applause for Shrenu Parikh). DabanngRi fought back, given him a return gift by destroying that which had been used to harm her vishwaas...

In her own anger and frustration, Gauri misunderstood Omkara's cold behaviour for ego rather than his shield and this led to her giving him a good scolding... the first of a fair few... (and I loved how she lectured him via poetry.. so many feels...)What can I say about these two other than the fact that they are in a league of their own... At the end of the day, Gauri's vishwaas won out and Omkara lost this first round between them... But he won something too... He won the start of something beautiful and life-altering...

When Gauri attempted to gain Omkara's attention, she showed that despite their disastrous first encounters, she had recognised the pure soul behind his cold faade... what a perceptive Chirraiya we have... When Omkara revealed her intentions to make a call to Kali, Gauri felt betrayed... had she read him wrong? When Omkara saw her approaching in bridal attire his face said it all (superb job Kunal) he was shocked an saw Svetlana in her immediately and this further cemented when he witnessed Kali hugging her... Were all these happening hurdles in their paths or just a means to unite them? We will never know...

'Misunderstandings' is a word that has played heavily in RiKara's relationship... something just about everyone has given their take on... As much as we hated Omkara mistaking her for a Svetlana copy, we also had to accept that this was what kick-started their relationship and I've had enough of deliberating the pros and cons of it, so I'm going to do something different in honour of this road-bump/milestone in their relationship. In honour of their 'misunderstandings' I present you with this what-if-style fic: Her life, her choice, her freedom...

PREMISE: Let's return back in time to Omkara lecturing Gauri on the significance of relationships and how little he thought of her after he picked her thread up for her...

Omkara was just turning away from the cunning but heartbreakingly beautiful woman ('control yourself Omkara!' he mentally chided himself. 'She is nothing but a deceitful home-wrecker... another Svetlana.') when he heard a heavy clank and chime. He was more than annoyed at this filthy woman now he'd bent to pick up her thread and instantly remembered bending to touch Jhanvi Thakur's feet and take her blessings so recently... this woman was the lowest kind of human... He turned back impatiently, annoyed at this girls need to annoy him. Why was she making that racket? Getting ready to give her a fresh telling-off, he found himself shocked as she began jolting her legs frantically whilst scanning every corner of the hall... was she trying to evade detection? Why? And what was that terrible sound... exactly how heavy were her foot ornaments. The clanging was beginning to wear on his already stretched nerves and Omkara knew he was going to make her rue the day she crossed his past, when he chanced a glance down and froze. Flowing from the girl's foot was bright red blood.

"Are you mad?! Kya kar rahi ho?! What are you doing?! Stop that!"Forgetting his distaste for her and any kind of social propriety which should have stopped him from doing so, Omkara bent down to her feet again and grasped for her foot. She finally stopped jumping and Omkara raised her skirt to examine the wound and found himself shocked. Why were there such heavy chains tying her down? He grasped onto the chain and found it was even heavier then it looked... how was she walking with these on? He looked up at her and noticed the pallor of her face and redness of her tearstained eyes, similar to their first meeting and contradictory to their second... she was shaking her head at him and motioning him to get up whilst looking around the hall, her expression terrified in a way that Omkara could not comprehend, yet understood perfectly... Something was very wrong here...

Just as he was about to ask her what the hell was going on, he heard approaching footsteps and from the way Gauri leapt back from him, so did she. Taking a deep breath Omkara straightened and took a retreating step himself he needed to calm down and unravel this situation. As Gauri was led away, she turned back and gazed at him, her expression dejected yet hopeful at the same time... forgetting all his preconceived notions Omkara found himself nodding at her he would get to the root of this whole thing.

After Gauri left, Omkara himself was led around the haveli, his mind filled with questions and no presenting answer. Why was Gauri being treated like a prisoner in her selfishly obtained fiance's house? Why was she being victimised when he thought her role was to give pain? Why was it physically hurting him that a woman as corrupt as her was in such pain? Only one woman held the answers to his questions but it would not be an easy task to get to her...

RiKara's nok-jhok at the beginning of their relationship was so unique... he was so easily irritated and she took full advantage of that. Gauri would pester him and ignore his harsher tone as if he were a small child throwing a tantrum and it was all so astonishingly cute! Rather than over-analyse-away (as is my habit), I've added these beautiful Gifs courtesy of @DEFOM and will caption them for you to re-live their awesomeness.

She defends her pushing him of a moving train down into a river by arguing that she had tried to warn him, but he had refused to move, and that given her volume even a mountain would have moved.

She calls him an 'ek number ka aalsi chirota'- 'number one lazy guy'... Gauri certainly has a way with words, whereas he counters her with logic and you can tell she feels chastised a bit...

He asks her why she does things that lead to goons chasing her and she attempts to scold him with her signature line, but this time she is not truly angry as she knows she's inconvenienced him, so it comes out as 'EK JHAAP ME...sat jaaiye beh...' how cute is Shrenu? - and good job to Kunal for keeping a straight face.

Then of course she loses no opportunity pestering him - hamari chirraiya hai kamaal ki our girl is awesome. She answers all his frustrated exclamations with a child-like innocence even though she should be the one freaking out as there are goons after her.

Dargah

There are very few scenes I could testify my love for above the dargah scene... it was filmed so beautifully Atif Khan please take a bow. Keeping my love for it in mind, I asked a few of my fellow RiKarians to summerise that scene in a single word and my thoughtful chirraiyas came up with quite a few:

Divine... Transcendent... Magical... Soulful... Destin(ed)... Poignant... Pure (My own)... Profound... Striking... Peaceful... Serene... Fate(d)... Mesmerising... Poetic... Authentic...

It was all these and more. There was something so subtle yet over-powering about the divine power blessing their relationship and simultaneously keeping them safe from harm... in that moment when she prayed for him, they were in a sanctuary above all... because to Gauri that is what God is... and she fulfils her relationship with the Highest Power to the best of her ability. Here I would like to steal the words of a very talented individual (she gave me permission, but I would have done so regardless because she is so right and I have edited a few things, because this particular chirraiya -@SRKisLove- is not know for her political correctness):

Gauri's relationship with her Shankarji is perhaps the purest bond in the whole of IB/DBO universe. Gauri does not pray to Shakarji because its a social obligation or habit bred into her. Shankarji is like Gauri's godfather. Since, Maa was in need of care rather than in a position to provide it, it's to Shankarji that Gauri turns to in times of distress, and Shankarji looks after her. Shankarji has always protected her. If Gauri believes in Shankarji, then Shankarji has also responded in kind and looked after her. I'll forever hate the writers for not exploring the Gauri's dynamics and backstory with Shankarji. In my headcanon, some major incident must have happened when Gauri was young, and Gauri must have prayed to God and Shankarji must have got her out of trouble. Since then Gauri and Shankarji formed an unbreakable bond, which is why Gauri has this unshakeable faith in Shankarji. The writers never explored the reason behind Gauri's faith and positivity and optimism - a true shame as it's a constant of her character and a beautiful theme that has been carried forward since the first episode.

'Humsafar' is the word the Fakeer used to describe them... a word synonymous to Saathiya and that is the journey we have witnessed between RiKara. They are equals walking the same path and protecting one another from hurdles. In the two of them I truly see Shiv and Parvati's relationship re-lived. The purity of their relationship transcends normality and is truly a bonding of the souls.

This wedding was beyond words... by far the most beautiful I've seen on-screen. Sure there was no mangalsutra, no mantra, no holy fire, no sindoor, no vows made... but there was a metaphorical thread bound that day that binds them still, there was the beautiful echoing music in the background as they became man and wife, there was a fire constructed by Omkara - I speak not of the physical one, but of the internal one... he was going to save Gauri no matter what it took, there was his blood colouring her parting and signifying their new relation and there was the joining of souls with the presence of divinity all around. Atif Khan directed this to perfection and Shrenu Parikh and Kunal Jaisingh excelled in making it phenomenal. I won't be able to give this wedding true justice, but coincidentally @rikarafan1 wrote something beautiful on it today and has agreed to let me post it here:

Their wedding was something else altogether. It had tension. It gave a sense of righteousness. For me, it's one properly written and executed scene and it was aesthetically perfect. Om was blinded by his past but couldn't see the injustice being done to her. His actions went well with his character. The way he told the villagers that they didn't have any right to punish someone that way. And his slight concern when she wasn't able to walk. His confusion on whether to leave her or save her. The way his heart won over his mind and he came back for her unable to see her getting stabbed. Gauri knew he hated her but she also knew that was just a facade, that he was not what he pretends to be and he was badly affected by something in his past. That made her save his life. That made her sought his help even if she knew he hated her. Her unwavering faith in her shankarji brought Om into her life which was clearly shown in the background during the marriage. (The shiva's statue) The sheer relief on her mother's face when she saw her daughter getting married The relief that she was safe and that she would be. Gauri's expression after he fills her maang. It was a mix of shock, comfort and belongingness. It had everything. Everything.

Even if there is a remarriage track (which is not possible) it can never beat their first marriage.

The name Gauri Kumari Sharma to me is synonymous of strength and she conveyed this fact yet again when she refused to wallow in the fact that her saviour husband had left her to her fate denying their relationship. Rather than lamentjng at her ShankarJi she moved forward with all her wit and vishwaas, thankful for his brief presence in her life. When it comes to Gauri she will use whichever path to reach her pure goals so long as it does not directly harm another and that makes her such an unbreakable force - she is not bound by social norms and rules. She became Chulbul to achieve her means and simultaneously began another phase of RiKara's relationship.

Credit must be given to Shrenu Parikh for how well she enacted this first meeting between Chulbul and Omkara - Gauri's pain reflecting in Chulbul's eyes yet not so obviously that we would wonder at Omkara's skills in observation. The dynamics of RiKara changed irrevocably here - Gauri found herself before a man she felt she had the truest duty to and Omkara found before him a stranger who had helped his mother. She was enveloped in devotion and he in a subtle appreciation. She discovered that the man she had dedicated her life to would soon dedicate his own to another and again Gauri did not question her ShankarJi - she accepted the facts and moved on rapidly, taking the blow with grace. As for Omkara, he was about to receive some much needed repreive form his own lonliness - a partner in crime. Here their story began anew.

The fairylights scene goes down as an epic moment in their story that has since been recreated by the lovely Atif Sir. For some the song choice was wrong or the fact that it was Chulbul in that moment was off-putting, but personally it will remain a favourite and I would change nothing. I think this was the moment that Gauri realised her Jattadhari Hippie is a handsome individual as he smiled at her for the very first time. Yes her patni dharam and that fact that he saved her fueled her devotion to him, but I think as that song began to play (Dekha hai pehli baar, sajan ki aankhon mein pyaar), she for the first time found him attractive. This acknowledgement of a female finding a male attractive is refreshing and her openness always sets these two apart.

Could not make this post without mentioning 'Maa Da Laadla'😆 - it was so funny. Omkara's confusion and worry was hilarious and Gauri's ignorance so cute. These small moments were much needed comedy amongst the angst of his parents' failing marriage.

Chulbul's unshakeable belief clashing with Omkara's strangled hope gave life to a deep conflict in RiKara that kept their chemistry alive despite the fact she was dressed like a boy. It was a battle between Gauri's faith in and Omkara's rage at God and the POV of both was clear for once. Gauri's vishwaas won against Omkara's anger and he really listened to Chulbul. This was the first sytep in Gauri's journey of putting together the puzzle that is Omkara Singh Oberoi.

16 Days To Go - Buddies
And so closeness began to develop between the two of them, Omkara finding in Chulbul the confidant he never knew he was missing and Gauri thriving on the fact that she could bring him joy instead of just remaining a reminder of things he hated. Through Chulbul, Gauri found herself accepted in her husbands life, and in Chulbul, Omkara found a true friend... a buddy. The first instance of this growing trust was their field trip... he trusted his new friend not to inform Svetlana of their whereabouts without any suspicion. Here Gauri experienced what it was like to be trusted by Omkara Singh Oberoi - a novel feeling for her.

The Madhubala song sequence was amazing - actual confirmation that Omkara was not as unaffected by his encounter with Gauri as he pretended to be. His subconscious did not question her presence - it felt right. I must admit I was a little put off at Gauri's excitement at him calling Chulbul cute or taking Chulbul out - I felt as if it did not sit in line with my perception of Gauri's selfless and determined decision not to expect anything of him, but then I remembered, this is a young girl with no clue what she's feeling, talking to the man who saved her from a terrible fate - let her act a little erratically.

I put the stabbing in here because although there were many medical illogicalities in that whole track, this concern from Omkara was soothing for me who at that point resented his willingness to not give Gauri a chance. His anger was a great reminder that he was only half-way to being in true love, and he was falling hard but could not understand the emotion as he had never questioned his sexuality - he was not attracted to males, but he always found himself drawn to Chulbul. Above all that, he knew that if anything were to happen to Chulbul, he would lose it. This was his protectiveness for his friend and from there I have been imagining what he would do for the woman he loves. Omkara's love is intense and unique - a love that we have witnessed grow slowly...

15 Days to Go - Sindoor
The jagraata was the beginning of Gauri's true sense of duty towards her husband's family - she could not allow for them to be embarassed any sooner than she could accept an insult to her beloved Goddess. The artist buried within Omkara was called by the melody of Gauri's voice and another connection was made, although it has never been revisited, he has a reminder of her... the question being does he know that? Did Jhanvi inform him that the mysterious girl from that night was his Gauri? Questions we all wish we had the answers to...

The refilling of Gauri's maang with Omkara's blood again indicates the divine nature of their relationship - they are meant to be. But with that reaffirmation of their bond comes the big reveal that almost separates them. Gauri leaves and Omkara is left forlorn without his partner in crime - but not for long. Fate plays a hand in their story... they cannot be apart for long, so she returns and Omkara is overjoyed - he has his buddy back and we know that Chulbul has become a vital part of Omkara's life. Even though his life is in shambles, Omkara finds small moments of joy with his best friend.

The trend does not end there and we are given a unique moment where they both share the sindoor symbolising their marriage - a scene many might have taken as an overly cartoonish, almost anime-esque, lollipop, but one which I believe signifies an important theme in their relationship... EQUALITY. These are two partners in the true sense. Here I would like to take a moment to convey some of my emotions towards the beauty that is Omkara - I eagerly awaited his story, so it seems fitting to explain that here. This is a post I wrote when I finally caught a sight of the man that was hinted at here:

How A Husband Should Be

In our heads I think we all have this image of how the perfect life partner should be. For some of us it's blurry, others it's crystal clear... personally it's more of an idealism that has changed over time. There was a time for me when it was a man who would forever save you... now it's the man who would forever trust you. The ideal husband stopped being an unreachable Knight in Shining Armour and instead became a more tangible friend... because that's what we're looking for right? A partner not a saviour... a Saathiya, not a Parmeshwar. The ideal husband need not be a wall erected to keep you from being damaged by a storm, if only he can be the hand that you hold as you weather through it, because surviving through harsh realities is real life it makes you stronger... it keeps you grounded.

Very rarely are we shown my ideal man onscreen he's not the classic hero material. Who would want a hero whose heroine sometimes does the saving? Who doesn't need to actively let her make her own choices? One that recognises that 'let' is a word synonymous to 'allow', and that it in itself sets females back... always back... That would be counter-productive right? Only it wouldn't... it isn't. Support is essential in a relationship, but why is the concept that giving permission is the exact opposite of being supportive impossible to grasp? I've fallen under the spell of many couples in Indian entertainment, but I have found in the past few years myself constantly questioning the depth of their character when they are praised for acts and speeches that have been actively setting the feminism movement back a few decades all in an attempt to forward and highlight it... give it a rest until you actually know what you're doing... Anyway enough of that tirade, that's not the point of this post.

This post is about my appreciation for the kind of husband that Omkara Singh Oberoi is finally showing himself to be... it's a slow development with only glimpses appearing, but it deserves to be noticed and appreciated nonetheless. I think my happiness at his standing in Gauri's defence today stems from a time when Gauri Kumari Sharma did not exist, before the conception of DBO, when Omkara was the rebellious, talented ArtistKara who won over so many of us. This was the guy who was not classic hero material... this was the example of a guy who could have an equal partner a true Saathiya. He shone amidst the dreary... he was fresh, he was rejuvenating... he was original... and for that little while... he was the ideal... my ideal. Unfortunately that did not last. Slowly the monster known as sidelining took hold and this piece of perfection became clouded... became polluted... his actions made little sense, his reactions even less so, and I found myself disappointed. I had wanted better for this character... I had desired more sincerity in the handling of his role... To be honest the whole thing reeked of wasted potential... But yet there was a flicker of hope lying dormant as Omkara underwent numerous changes, as a new development called Dil Bole Oberoi came into play and as a worthy Saathiya entered his life. I will take this moment to say that I have nothing against Ishaana, her character was just not developed enough and I am a Gauri KumarI Sharma fan so I will only talk about her. Regardless, opposite a villain as daunting as Rahul Dev's Kali, the candle of my hope for Omkara's resurgence was still there, faintly, but there. Then came the Svetlana show that did all it could to douse that feeble flame, but I had hope because I could not accept that a character as awesome as GKS would settle for anything less than the Omkara we were originally promised.

Then the merger happened... we lost a lot that day... The screen space we had won back after Svetlana's exit but which was now being shared with a new pairing, suddenly disappeared... the new pairing was jolted but as a RiKarian I felt aghast. We were finally reaching to a high... why were we fading when it was our time to shine? The most important plotline for RiKara the Kali revelation... over in two minutes with no heartfelt conversation... it was the worst feeling for a fan... for someone who had expected more... Yet my hope that Omkara was still there... disguised as a spectator, but still THERE... kept my hope for him alive.

The ups and downs continued with tiny moments of joy but lots of being pushed aside and remaining patient. The Break-up scene where Omkara should have come to the fore, but instead needed to be pushed, what was that about? The fantastic Bareilly track concluding in a sadly lacklustre way. Him defending her to his father... what a relief... Then a vanwaas for RiKara that looks to be ending no time soon...

But today... today there was a spark... today there was a man who resembled my ideal when he defended his wife. Today Omkara rose from the shadows he has been tucked dormant in for so long and with no advice from others he soared like a phoenix and proclaimed that he would not hear a word against his wife. Today I saw what had drawn me to this character. Yes he might have regressed and suddenly found living up to other's dreams is more important than following his own, but I put that down to poor writing beyond anything else. Omkara is still in there... no, he is not the ideal yet he really needs to learn that Gauri's warnings always have reason but he's not gone either. Perhaps he will never reach full potential, perhaps it will not be allowed... But the guy I know is in there is truly amazing. That guy deserves a round of applause. This episode to Omkara still surviving despite being kept under lock and key.

14 Days to Go - Betrayal
I'm a total GKS fan, but I'm also a total Omkara fan so this series of events is where the lines really began to blur. Do I hate Omkara for leaving her there or do I blame Gauri for her deceit that led to this final outcome? Well to be honest, neither. I've seen this issue discussed multiple times on this forum and others yet my POV has never been clearer. I'm gonna let them remain unnamed, but I'm going to use a conversation abut the lack of flow in writing between some RiKarians to explain my point - I haven't asked their permission, so if they find this... Sorry😳...

RiKarian 1:
90% of DBO was un-Omkara.

50% of IB is un-Gauri.

So technically speaking Rikara is a love story between god only knows which versions of Omkara and Gauri. Not that I think that Gauri's 'love' is anything other than 'patnidharm' anyways.

RiKarian 2:
Lol I am in no mood to argue which is un Omkara, who is un Gauri. What love story they had. My point was about that writer don't even care about characters present state.

At this point the discussion turned to specific moments were the characters seemed OOC.

ME:
Oh I'm not justifying the ooc actions - you know my view on poor writing😆. But I still maintain that I see in Omkara a darkness and I feel that was unleashed when it came to Gauri... but the thing about his darkness is I fully believed it would one day become possessiveness - but look wjhat the writers have done. They never explored that side of him. I like that Omkara's mistakes can never be glorified by a neutral POV - it makes him more real than others I have seen on Indian Television - but I hate that we've been left in this limbo about them. Omkara's jealousy and tendency to react explosively at Gauri is not the norm for him - but would any decent writer not go the route of showing that his actions are due to the uncontrollable feelings he has for her, rather than leaving it a mystery as to why he has suddenly become this way?

I guess I mostly feel this way because I have my own headcanon that I cannot separate the bleak reality from - in my mind, Omkara's deal was bourn out of an inexplicable need to be close to her again... of course he would never admit it... I know in reality, the writers were too lazy to think up a better reasoning for her return to OM. Gauri pushes Omkara's buttons in a new way for him and he is so attracted to her that it drives him crazy and he reacts in the worst way - he wants her gone. He can't let himself see the Chulbul in her and that is why he uses coldness to mask his hurt - he trusted in someone to a very large extent and was betrayed for it. Do I think Omkara would have left Gauri at Kali's mercy? No way - but I don't think he'd have done that in DBO or IB... she was a hated stranger to him but he saved her regardless. Those are examples of where his actions do not describe the character that had at times been shown in DBO as well as IB.

Anyways, the show is finished and we will never know what an Omkara in love would have done to redeem himself, so I'll just keep writing fiction on it. Of course I still hope for him to recollect and right these things, but we won't get that at all. Regardless I love RiKara and they are still my muse.

RiKarian 3:
The funny thing is I am agreeing with all of you- kashish, RiKaraian 1 and RiKaraian 2!! I mean, when I read your posts I feel yeah she has a point! Now I am agreeing with all contradictory comments! Now, I am worried about my own sanity!

RiKaraian 4:
Sigh... so glad to know it's not only mee...

RiKarian 5:
glad to know that I have a companion!

RiKarian 6:
Om was never OOC but he had to show his inner demons for sometime.Come on his life was a mess before he started for Bareily many people tend to act aggressive and do certain things which we never do in real life. It applies to each individual, many of us conduct ourselves differently when certain situations are mess but later when things calm down everything falls into life and act our normal way.

The main point is that despite our differing views on the scenes there are things we all agree on - yes some of us are more prone to either side, but at the end of the day we are all RiKarians - we all share our opinions and discuss and agree and disagree. What makes our ship so unique is that there is a sense of conflict and no real protagonist. We don't all see one of the pair as weaker or stronger - I really love that. These two are truly equals.
