THE TRAIN JOURNEY : DELHI TO MADRAS
Omkaara was lost in his thoughts while Meera and Priyanka were continuously jabbering
"My dream of becoming a 'saas'...may not be fulfilled...it seems my son has taken an oath of lifelong celibacy"...Meera was lamenting...Priyanka was giggling
Omkaara glared at the two ladies...and Meera made a face and stopped her speech.
He needed solitude...he was going for a literary meet...and he knew everyone would want to know about his next novel. Last year he had proudly announced that he would be writing his next novel 'Uma' very soon...but he couldnt get the inspiration. He wrote a collection of short stories and a series of poetry which were bestsellers and obviously his Art kept hi busy...but Uma was his dream...a dream which needed to be fulfilled...else there would be a void
Unfortunately neither his mother nor his sister would understand his restlessness. Probably that was the primary reason he agreed to Ashutosh's proposal of going to Ooty...he needed solitude...faraway from the maddening crowds...where his dream would be realised.
...
THE LITERARY MEET : COIMBATORE
The meet was a huge success and Omkaara was honoured as a the upcoming Literary Personality of the year.
And then came the press conference...after a few formal questions...the topic of 'Uma' was raised...he knew this would be unavoidable
"Gentlemen.."...Omkaara replied..."Uma is going to be my masterpiece...believe me...i am working on it and very soon it would be there for all of you to enjoy"
Omkaara didnt believe an ounce of his own words..."very soon"...he have a sarcastic smile to himself...it was frustrating for a writer to be unable to express his innermost thoughts and desires...he looked away
...
"The roads are beautiful I heard"...Ashutosh said nervously while driving
Omkaara nodded..." Ashutosh...you can see it for yourself also...you needn't believe what others tell you"...he smiled...then he continued..."let me know when you would want me to take over the driver's seat"
Om was admiring the beauty of the Nilgiri Range ...and he felt refreshed
Meera and Priyanka were continuing with their talks while Om was gloriously ignoring them
"Ashutosh...why didn't your mother come?"...Meera enquired
"Aunty...her knee joint pain had terribly increased and she couldn't even perform her daily tasks...so it was impossible and Dad wasn't supposed to come anyway...but you are family Aunty...Ma trusts u...he said...then turned towards Om and said in a low voice..."I am so happy that none of them have come"
Om looked at him with and shook his head out of despair...the very idea of rejecting a girl was disturbing him.
The Journey was otherwise uneventful

OOTY
"Gauri when was the last time you spoke to anybody?"...her cousin asked her teasingly..."Any way now that the special some one would be coming...you will have to talk"...she said
Gauri didn't say a word...she was elated that finally she could give some happiness to her father...
Her cousin continued...
"Can you please come out of your Black and White wardrobe"...she complained..."Hindi cinema has turned into Eastmancolor long time back"
Gauri gave a faint smile...that didn't leave her lips...so the onlooker couldn't understand that she had smiled at all..."This is all I have"...she said in a soft time
"And I am the lucky one...who has managed to hear your voice..." her cousin smiled..."Rajshri Ma...the guests would be arriving any moment...hope all arrangements are ready at the guest house?...I shall go and have a look...after all Uncle has trusted me with this responsibility and I came from Delhi just for Gauri"...and she hurried away
Gauri loved her cousin...but expressions were always difficult for her...her cousin was eccentric but extremely good at heart.
"Gauri have you eaten anything?" Rajshri Ma asked
She had been Gauri's nanny since her childhood...but much more than a nanny...she was the only person from whom Gauri had got the basic love and earned the basic respect of being a human being
Gauri nodded in affirmative..."Baba is there?"...she asked...
"Saahab has gone for a meeting for Tea board executives" she replied..."should be back late night"
Gauri kept quiet...ans stared outside the window...the clouds...would soon clear from the peaks...and the vision would be clear.
...
Omkaara and his family and Ashutosh were put up in the guesthouse by the manager of the tea estate who had received them
They were relaxing in their room...when the caretaker of the guest house...came over...and knocked...
"Sir Baby ji wants to meet you" he said...
"Baby ji???"...Ashutosh panicked. .this must be My Sharma's daughter
And as for Om..."Baby ji"...seiously...so this must be another spoilt brat of a rich father...he frowned.
"Okay..." Ashutosh replied..."we are coming to the living room."
As Omkaara and Ashutosh...entered the room...Ashutosh's jaw dropped..."Trishna!...what are you doing here?"...he almost squealed
"Shouldnt I ask you that?..." she asked irritated...then as if the realisation dawned upon her..."so you are Mr Mishra that Mamaji was talking about?...you have come to see my cousin Gauri!!!...you monkey"
Om wouldn't be able to take another surprise in the next one week.
After a heavy argument and debate of the lovers...Trishna finally understood Ashutosh's intentions...and his reasons for bringing Om..so that he would support his friend in rejecting Gauri
After the initial happiness of Trishna...she became terribly quiet...
"What happened Trishna?"...Ashutosh asked worried..."you don't trust me?"
She looked at the two friends..."I am worried about Gauri"
"Why?"...What about her? ...she is the only child of a rich father.. .marriage will not be an issue for her"...Ashutosh replied
Om who was quiet all this while...spoke out... "Its not always about being rich or only daughter...Ashu"...he turned towards Trishna ..."don't worry...things will be fine...she will get over this"
"That means Ashutosh you know nothing about Gauri..." Trishna said..." but this is important and you must know this
Suddenly more than Ashustosh...Omkaara as interested..."please go ahead Trishna. .."
...
The clouds were slowly clearing...the mountain peak was becoming visible...the blue sky was slowly peeping out...
How she loved this view...at this time of the day ...when the darkness retreated...and light took over...she was waiting
To be continued
