Finalising the seating arrangements for the Jensen-Rathore wedding, Anika ended the video conference, shut the laptop and picked up her files to head back to her room when she saw someone enter the pool area.

She put her files back down so she could welcome whoever had entered. Giving a shout, she flew into his arms. "Samar! What are you doing here?" she asked her best friend after he let her go.

Soulful eyes met hers as he leaned against the tree next to the pool. "I was back in Mumbai so I came to see if Mr SSO is treating Mrs SSO properly or if he's still being stupid"

"You're lucky he isn't here to hear you call him stupid" Rolling her eyes and taking enough of a step back that she could look up into his face, she said "But on a serious note, he and I are good. Actually we're more than good. Things have never been better"

He looked disappointed as he replied "So that means I have no chance of winning you back?"

But Anika had known him long enough to not be fooled...and right now, she was very aware of the teasing light behind that disappointment.

"You had your chance. You gave it up to Shivaay" She said seriously but then chuckled when he did.

"Yeah, I regret that now. But you know these Oberoi brothers can be very convincing at times. I wish I hadn't helped them. I wished I had stolen you when I had the chance"
She knew it was a deliberate dig, meant to rile her up, so she plastered an shocked expression on her face. "Really?"

The hair on the back of her neck rose at that moment, and she suddenly realised there was someone watching them.

"Yeah" Samar said even as she was turning on her heel. "You know that I still love you"

A sound of rage filled the air an instant before Shivaay's body slammed into Samar's, taking the man down to the ground.

"Shivaay" Anika shouted as Samar retaliated instinctively, one of his fists clocking Shivaay in the ribs.

Shaking off the blow as if he hadn't even felt it, Shivaay slammed a punch into Samar's face, snapping it back. Samar groaned and shoved Shivaay off his chest.

Except Shivaay didn't budge, crunching another fist into the other man's jaw. This time, Samar responded with a similar hit. Anika, having watched for a gap, jumped in between the two men as they flowed to their feet.

"Stop!" She screamed

Shivaay's eyes were a strange metallic green when she looked up at him, and they were focused on Samar. Who was staring back with equal anger.

"Get out of my way, Anika" The taller man snarled.

Shivaay's body vibrated against her palm. "Don't give her orders!"

Reaching as if to pull her behind him, Shivaay sucked in a breath when she elbowed him in the stomach at the same time that she pushed at Samar. He was too big to move, but it did snap his attention to her.

"Enough" She said, speaking to both of them. "Samar, I need you to go now"

"Why the hel-" Samar froze, blinked, and suddenly he looked guilty. "Aw, shit. Not again, Shivaay"

Anika stared at him. "What?" She'd expected to have to deal with his considerable sleeping volcano of a temper except that it looked like he was going to apologise."What?"

Samar continued to look at Shivaay. "I was only kidding, man, you know that. You know I don't love her like that. Not anymore. I'll see you tomorrow Anika."

Shivaay was staring at Samar, his eyes that strange, fascinating green. They tracked Samar with unrelenting focus as the other man began to back out of the pool area, rubbing at his bruised jaw with one hand.

"Samar" Anika snapped. "What-"

Shivaay gripped the back of her neck, his mouth suddenly at her ear. "Don't talk to him"

Anika was about to turn her own temper on him when something in his eyes stopped her. Fear.

Fear, why? She asked herself.

She placed a hand on Shivaays chest. "Shivaay" she said, shocked at her revelation "What-"

His hand still around her nape, he bent his head until his eyes were staring into hers- pure metallic green flame...and something else. A deep, inexorable fear, devoid of civilised thought.

It didn't surprise her in the least when he lowered his head and sank his teeth into her lower lip. Hissing out a breath, she clenched one hand in his hair.

Rational obviously was not going to work. In any other situation, she would have taught him a lesson for this aggressiveness. But this wasn't any other situation and he'd bent for her more than once.

So today, she bent for him.

Letting her body soften in welcome, she held his head against her. He didn't change position for several seconds.
When she didn't move either, except to stroke her hand over his back, he finally released the grip he had on her with his teeth, laving his tongue over the small hurt even as his arms came around her in a much gentler though no less possessive, hold.

"Shiv-"

His lips on her neck, over her cheek, on her lips. Anika knew something was wrong, but for now, she would let her body soothe him, she would hold him, accept him.

"What do you want?" Anika asked, but he remained silent. Deciding to let instinct guide her, she softened even more for him.

She didn't stop him when he pulled her to their bedroom and pinned her to the wall next to the glass doors.

Anika gasped into his kiss but cooperated when he tore off her clothes, opened the front of his pants and when he lifted her up by the thighs, she wrapped her legs around his waist.
Shivaay took her her lips in a kiss so hungry she felt consumed. A soft scream escaped Anika when he pushed into her with a single quick thrust, his lips moving over her neck, he was so deep inside her barely that she couldn't think.

She felt the pulse of his heartbeat within her and it was exquisite, a carnal kiss unlike any other. He pulled out almost all the way and then surged deep again. Her body started to shake with the sensations coursing through her.

Unable to remain still, she pushed toward him. His teeth closed over the curve of her neck, holding her in place as he drove them both to the edge.

The hold wasn't painful, just so possessive that she felt utterly claimed. It was a reminder that she was his. Only his.

His hand slipped to the curls between her legs, finding the throbbing nub that she ached to have caressed. He knew perfectly how to rub, how to tease.

Her scream came from deep inside her, her blood molten heat.

With a growl, Shivaay let go of Anika's neck and began to move so hard and fast she could no longer meet him. This time, his movements were deep and fast and unstoppable.

She melted, accepting his anger, his hunger, his need, his claim, even as her body shattered into a thousand pieces, brilliant sparks of unknown colour flashing before her eyes.

Anika rode the storm, let him push her over again and again, let her husband find his peace in her. When Shivaay's body shuddered in her arms and he let out a rough shout, Anika felt every feminine instinct she had moan in pleasure.

"Mine" That absolute statement was the last word he said in a long, long while. His entire bodyshuddered. "Anika." It was a raw sound stripped of his usual control and SSO attitude.

"Shhh" She hugged him harder. "It's ok"

"I hurt you"
"No. Never, Shivaay" She pulled back wanting to meet his eyes. They were devoid of the metalic green and was now replaced with something lighter, more vulnerable.

"You didn't hurt me" She repeated, placing her hand gently on his cheek . "Talk to me."

His eyes refused to meet hers and in the next instant he brushed off her hand and walked out of the room leaving Anika feeling whiplashed.

She sighed and quickly dressed. Knowing where he'd be, she padded bare foot through the opened glass doors.

***
Shivaay knew she was standing there even before he heard her speak. He never understood the concept of how he always sensed her, felt her presence. But he revelled in the feeling of being so connected to her.

"Are you going to tell me what's wrong?" She came to a stop next to him.

Controlling the impulse to fist his hand in her hair, tug her close until he could breathe in the warm spice of her skin...until he could unwind on the deepest level, he focused on the soft movement of the water.

"The way the pool reflects the moons light is beautiful, isn't it?"

"Yes, it is" Her own face turning to the water.

"You should see the roof top pool at night. When the sky is clear and the moon isn't shining so bright, the pool looks as if it's dotted with diamonds"

"I'd like to see that" She said softy, eyes still on the water and Shivaay watched mesmerised as the light reflecting off the water danced across her face.

"Beautiful" He stroked his hand down the length of her hair.

She jerked away and Shivaay knew the truce was over. "You still haven't answered me"

"I shouldn't have hit him. Nor should I have ignored you just now. I wasn't thinking straight" He'd been an arse. Both to her and Samar. But he had had his reasons. Reasons that were still banging at the inside of his head.

"Surprising" Sarcasm dripped off the single word

But he added added with a sigh "I heard you and Samar talking. I didn't like seeing you with him nor did I like him saying I love you"

Shivaay felt Anika freeze at the unexpected statement. "Not much of an apology" She said

"That's because I wasn't apologising" He tugged at her hand, pulling her down to sit beside him on the pools ledge, theirs legs dipped in the water. "As yet" He added quickly after seeing her glare.

"We'll i'm waiting!"

He sighed and said "Seeing you hug him and-"

She gasped and almost shouted at him "Shivaay. He's o-"

Shivaay chuckled and placed a finger on her lip. "It brought up old memories. Memories that I would rather didn't exist. They're my darkest fears Anika"

Shivaay moved Anika so that she was sitting between his legs, rather than next to him. He put his arms across her chest as he held her impossibly closer, his thighs on either side of hers, their legs still in the water

"Seeing you with him again reminded me of the time that I almost lost you to him. Because of my stupidity. Because of my family. I almost lost you" He told her in a whisper, the sudden lump in his throat making it difficult to speak.

The last time he had felt this way was when Samar had said similar words to Anika that night outside the mansion gates. It was a feeling he never wanted to feel again.

Shivaay felt Anika relax against him, and he held her tighter as she said "Would you have really let me go?"

"I'd do anything for your happiness Anika" He told her in all honesty, because at the time he had even been ready to let her be with another man.

Shivaay parked his car outside of the noisy chawl and got out, the afternoon breeze cold on his face. Turning, he headed into the colourful locality that was partying in abandonment, result of it being the after party of Chanda's wedding reception.

He hadn't made it more than a few meters into the locality when he froze. "Anika" He whispered in reverence as he watched the scene in front of him.

She was dancing, her limbs flowing with a grace and a beauty that made it appear as if she was floating. He'd seen her dance before, on countless occasions but seeing her dance again after months was bliss.

He couldn't breathe, wasn't sure his heart beat. Until...

The damn man had his hands on Anika, was twirling her around, making her eyes sparkle. His hands fisted before he'd processed the thought.

Shivaay saw red, all rational thoughts disappearing from his head, he stalked forward but stopped short when he saw Anika whacked Samar's arm and gesture for the tall man to lean down so she could whisper something in his ear.

As he watched, Samar smiled and pulled Anika close, his hands wrapping around her waist to pull her into a hug that lasted long enough to have Shivaay considering dismemberment.

But the other man broke the hug before Shivaay's anger took control, clasped Anika's hand and tugged her forward with him.

A strangled sob escaped Shivaay's lips as they both disappeared inside Chanda's house. Anger melting as his chest started to ache, the pain unbearable.

Shivaay stood staring at the door, oblivious to the music and dancing that was happening around him, as if willing God to erase the last few minutes but it didn't work.

After getting a call from dadi to ask where he was, he realised he had been standing in the same place for the last 10 minutes. Stiff feet carried him to his car at the end of the driveway, he got in and drove away.

***
Samar felt Anika try to free his hold on her wrist as he pulled her with him, but he didn't let go until they were inside Chanda's house and he had closed the door.

"Samar! Let go of my hand!" Anika told him calmly as he pulled her towards the window. "Samar! I want to dance! LEAVE M--Umpf"

Samar had let go of her hand at the same time she had jerked back trying to slip her wrist out of his hand.He saw close her eyes and braced herself for the fall but Samar acted quickly and pulled her to his chest.

"Sorry" He told her quickly while steadying her. Making sure she was standing properly he let her go, turned and stalked to the window.

"Why did you do that?" Samar heard Anika ask and he turned to look at her. Curious, not angry. Folding her arms, she pinned him with one of those looks that said she meant business.

But Samar saw under the rough facade she had on. Saw that despite the smiles and dancing she had indulged in tonight, she was slowly breaking. And how could she now. She loved Shivaay yet she had to stay away from him. Had to give him up to another woman.

He felt a sudden burst of anger and disgust towards his sister, Ragini, for whatever she had done to Anika.
Shaking his head to clear his anger, he stepped closer and said "Because I wanted a little privacy to talk to you. I really love you, Anika. I want to marry you, have children with you. Grow old with you"

Shadows clouded her expression, turning her gaze to midnight. "Samar, I-" Eyes narrowing as she glimpsed the grin tugging at his lips, she mimed throwing something at him. "Not funny."

Laughing, he pulled her in for a quick hug. "How could I resist, Ani? You're so adorable and earnest"

In the 2 months that he had come to know Anika, he had truly fallen in love with her, her strength, her courage, everything... But he knew she couldn't be his so he had decided friends is what they would be.

And he had the rock solid feeling that their friendship was here to stay. And Samar took care of his friendss.

She elbowed him. Hard. Wincing, he continued to hold her by his side. "So, still no chemistry, huh?" He pouted at her. "Pity. You're beautiful. We'd look good together"

"Also not funny"

"Wasn't a lie." He knew from the slight shake of her head that she thought he was spouting a whole truck load of cow dung, but the fact was, Anika was gorgeous...in a way every male who laid eyes on her notice.

Hers wasn't a delicate feminine beauty, for all that she was fine-boned and gentle looking. No, Anika carried within her a deep, deep core of strength that had etched itself onto her face.

This was a woman who would stand her ground, come what may.

And to every hot blooded male, that was both purest temptation and the most enticing challenge. He got another intriguing glimpse of that internal strength when she pushed away to face him once more.

"You didn't answer my question"

"You still love him. Don't you?" He asked, even though he didn't need the answer, his eyes never moving off her...so he saw the immediate stiffening of her shoulders, the pinched tightness around the curves of her mouth.

When she spoke, her voice held a tone of anger. "What does this have to do with you pulling me any from the celebrations! And you-"

Her words cut off abruptly as her phone rang and Samar nodded a 'Go ahead' to which she sent him a glare that said 'We're not done here' and walked away.

Blowing out a breath, he thanked his lucky stars for whoever phoned Anika, because he didn't know how much longer he could avoid her question. He couldn't tell her why he had really done what he did. Couldn't tell her that he had spied Shivaay walking towards them.

It wasn't the right time. Yet.

Leaning against the wall next to the window, he looked at the defeated man outside who stood uncaring of the party around him.

Hard eyes still staring at the door, hands clenching and un-clenching at his sides, he was a man who was distraught and fighting an inner battle.

They had told him that Shivaay was possessive of Anika, loved Anika to almost borderline madness. So why isn't he in here making me bleed, Samar thought.

Was there something they had missed out on informing him about. Was there more to Anika and Shivaay?

Samar knew Anika was smart on a whole different level than the majority of people, but she'd also spent most of her life battling her way through every storm alone.

She was strong, yes, but she also had a heart that was extremely soft and fragile. Which was why she needed friends to watch her back.

And Samar would do anything for Anika. After all she had gone through, had done for him, he would give his life for her.

Samar watched as Shivaay tensed his shoulders and move, and he sighed in relief but that relief turned to confusion as he saw Shivaay walk, not towards the door, but turn back and head out of the locality gates.

He shook his head in panic. No no no, his mind screamed, he's supposed to come inside and take his wife, not walk away from her! This was not part of their plan.

"Damn it" He muttered as he pulled out his phone and dialled the last number called. "Omkara. Shivaay just left...Without Anika"
