It was a stalemate. He was angry with her and she was determined to be unafraid of him. He loved that about her, she doesn't cower easily, not even from him.
He frowned at the word Love popping in his head about her just like that. Irritated that he couldn't stop it. Gritting his teeth, he folded his arms and looked away.
Suddenly the lights went out through the house. Pitch dark, he looked for her in the direction of where she stood earlier.
Switching his light on the phone, he was surprised to find her next to him.
"Are you alright?" He asked, knowing she feared the darkness.
"I'm alright. I no longer fear the darkness."
That stung him, he wasn't sure why. Is she even herself anymore. Did he know her at all?
"So, you don't fear anything anymore. Good. That's good for you" he said with a long face.
"I do fear losing the Sun of my life.."
Both stared into each other's eyes in that torchlit darkness, mesmerized by the memories that came.
Something reflected in her eyes, an urgency perhaps. A diamond ring glinted on her finger, realization rushed through him. His ring.
Lights returned and she turned away to hide her vulnerability. He reached to turn her back but she was already running away.
