Chapter 2- Of More Jealousy and Sudden Dates
Shivaay returned, from wherever he had stormed off to, during lunch. I had been biting my nail in anticipation. If he didn't show up, what would I make of it? I had already discovered that he felt for me too, but the plan needed to be put into action today itself. I needed to give him another douse of jealousy. So when I saw him entering the mansion, I rushed towards the sofa where Rohit was sitting, chatting with Om and Rudra. Making sure I was loud enough for Shivaay to hear, I went towards Rohit, calling out his name.
"Rohiiit," I drawled out the name in an attempt to copy Tia. It made me cringe within.
"Yes, Anni?" He said, standing up, having spotted Shivaay too. Om and Rudra looked on with confusion at this weird behaviour of mine.
"How about we go out for lunch now?" I asked, looking at Shivaay through my peripheral vision. He was standing with his phone his hand, pretending to type but his eyes were clearly on us.
Rohit tried to hide his grin and answered with a "Ofcourse, love. Let's go."
I waved towards Om and Rudra, who had their mouths hanging open, and took Rohit's hand in mine. We were advancing towards the door when my body almost collided with a muscular chest.
"Where do you think you're going?" Shivaay asked, his eyes a dark shade of blue. I grinned inwardly, but answered with an innocent face.
"For lunch?"
He stared hard at me for a minute, before his gaze shifted to mine and Rohit's intertwined hands, and then finally rested on Rohit himself.
"I think I've told you already," he started, voice low and menacing, "that she comes here to work, and work only."
Rohit seemed to falter for a moment at that threatening tone, but regained his composure in time. I let out a sigh of relief.
"Oh but Mr.Oberoi, I can assure you that we won't take long. Besides, every employee is entitled to a lunch break, aren't they?"
I could almost sense smoke coming out of Shivaay's ears in anger.
Huh, that's what you get for not admitting your feelings, you stupid kanji aankhon wala baggad billa. MY baggad billa.
The wheels seemed to turn in Shivaay's head for a while, before he answered.
"Well, I have absolutely no problem in her having lunch here, with us. That's what she does everyday. Infact, feel free to join us."
AARGHH, my head screamed. This infuriating man always had a reply, didn't he? But I wasn't about to give up that easily.
"Oh, but Billuji, Rohit and I wanted to... spend some time alone. So if you would excuse us... " I trailed off.
"I will NOT". Shivaay blurted out, before realizing the bluntness of what he had just said.
"I mean," he continued, in an attempt to brush off his embarrassment, I presumed, "Why would you want to spend time alone? It's not like my family members and I are going to disturb you here, or something."
I let out a huge dramatic sigh, and moved forward to place my hands on Shivaay's shoulders. I could see him gulp at that, and my heart fluttered.
"Billuji," I said calmly, as if explaining something to a petulant child. "Rohit and I... we sort of, um, want to go on a date." I whispered the last part.
Shivaay's eyes widened at that.
"Why would you want to go on a date?" He asked, his face looking panic-stricken and so damn adorable that I wanted to pull his cheeks. With much power, I refrained from doing so. Instead, I tried glaring at him in a why-do-you-think-people-go-on-dates' way. It didn't work, much to my pleasure.
It was at this moment that Rohit interfered.
"Um, Mr.Oberoi. No offence, but I'll have you know that Anni is just your employee, so you can't just ask her about her personal life like that."
Shivaay now turned to Rohit with an annoyed expression, as if he had no right to interfere. Or maybe that was just me hoping too high.
"I don't need to know from YOU what I should do and shouldn't," Shivaay scowled. "And she's not just my employee, she's my- "
He stopped abruptly at that, eyes widening slightly at what he had been about to say. My heart beat increased frantically.
I'm your WHAT, Shivaay? My mind screamed.
Shivaay, however, only clenched his fists tight and took deep breaths to calm himself down. Then turning to me again, he said in a low, soft voice-
"Do you WANT to go on a date with him, Annika?" his voice seemed so pleading that I wanted to hug him tight and get it into his thick head that I didn't want to go on a date with anyone other than him.
"Do you want me not to?" I asked him, my voice equally soft. We were doing a good job ignoring Rohit altogether.
There were a few moments of silence, before Shivaay finally shook his head in a no. My face broke into a triumphant smile and I did nothing to stop it.
I turned towards Rohit who had been looking back and forth between me and Shivaay intently.
"I'll see you some other day, Rohit." I told him, indicating that his job, for now atleast, was over.
"Sure thing, Anni." He said with a smile, and moved forward to give me a good-bye hug. Before he could so much as even touch me, Shivaay stood between us as a barrier.
"She'll see you some other day, Rohit." He said solemnly, making me want to squeal in delight. Rohit only nodded, gave me a wink, and left.
Shivaay and I stared after him, and then turned to look towards each other.
"I didn't know you were into the whole dating thing," He said in a serious voice, with an underlying emotion I couldn't decipher. Hurt, perhaps? I hoped so.
"I'm not," I shrugged. "Rohit's just a friend." Better to tell the truth and let him know I was available. For him.
Shivaay seemed to let out sigh of relief, but then furrowed his brows in confusion.
"Wait, then why did you say you were going on a date with him?"
My eyes widened. How the hell did I get out of this mess I had landed myself into.
"Um, actually, uh...yeah! I've never gone on a date before, so Rohit just wanted to take me out on one. Wanted to have the experience, you see."
I mentally slapped myself at the lame excuse I had come up with. Desperate times called for desperate measures.
Shivaay smirked, and took a step closer to me. It was my turn to gulp. Very slowly, he raised his hand, and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. I shuddered involuntarily.
"Well, if that is the case," he whispered in that sexy, husky voice of his, "you could have just told me. I would love to take you out on a date someday, Annika."
Oh my my, I think I just died and went to heaven.
Searching his face for any hint of humour, I only found sincerity in his eyes. We seemed to be lost in each other in this moment, uncaring of anything around us. But these fleeting moments wouldn't do- if this continued, we would never be able to move ahead. So reluctantly breaking the bubble, I moved back one step. Shivaay blinked his eyes a couple of times, as if brought out of a daze.
"Well then, why don't you?" I asked him, my arms crossed and an eyebrow raised.
He looked taken aback by this question of mine. It seemed that I had rendered the baggad billa speechless for once. But the very next minute, his tadi was back in full form.
"I will." He replied decidedly, making my eyes widen. "Tonight. Be ready at 8, sharp."
With that, he did his signature hair flick and walked away towards his room.
My stupid heart just wouldn't stop doing somersaults in my chest.
