As ShivIka fans I am sure everyone will enjoy reading this one, especially since it poses a lot of questions to Gul Khan and even takes digs at her (subtly)

Link: Tarnish Anika's image mercilessly; underline Shivika's Ishq : Was it really necessary?

I can't even begin to comprehend how devastated the fans and viewers of Ishqbaaz are after witnessing the recent happenings in the show, especially Shivaay and Anika's separation.
After watching and re-watching the last few episodes of the show I can't but help wonder and pose these question to the creator of the show Gul Khan - "Was it really necessary to tarnish Anika's image so mercilessly in front of Shivaay?" and "Was Anika's love for Shivaay so weak that she succumbed to Pinky's threats, instead of fighting for the same?"
"When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it" Paul Coelho.
The above quote tells us that if you absolutely want something and you work towards it there is no stopping you from obtaining it, because the entire universe joins forces to help you attain the same. Anika wanted nothing more than to shield Shivaay from the heartbreak he would have experienced if the truth about his birth came out... if he got to know that he wasn't Shakti and Pinky's son (Unless there is another twist in there somewhere). Mind you this does not mean that he isn't an Oberoi, he is still an Oberoi because his biological father Shakti is one. But because his biological mother is not Pinky but Kamini, and since he was born out of wedlock; the sword of illegitimacy hangs over his head (and will always continue to do so). With Pinky threatening to hurt Shivaay by revealing the truth if Anika did not walk away from Shivaay's life, and knowing very well how important factors such as 'Naam , Khoon and Khandaan (NKK)' were for Shivaay; Anika moved heaven and earth to make certain that Shivaay never gets to know this truth. She uses every weapon in her arsenal to make sure that Shivaay broke all ties with her, and the result was there for all to see - Anika succeeded.
Be it by ridiculing the arrangements Shivaay made for their remarriage with so much love or by asking to partition the Oberoi Empire. Be it by badmouthing the Oberoi Family or by behaving rudely with Dadi. Be it by calling Omkara illegitimate or shutting up Pinky for interfering between Shivaay and herself; Anika mercilessly tarnishes her image in front the only man she ever loved. Though her heart was breaking into a million pieces she was determined to see her plan through. Though she could read the thousand "WHY's" floating in Shivaay's 'kanji' (sapphire) eyes; Anika breaks Shivaay's heart, the trust he had on her and the beautiful relationship they had build without a second thought; all because of the misguided notion that she is protecting her husband when the truth is she is just delaying the inevitable.

Can anyone hide the truth? NO. It is said that you can deny the truth...even avoid it, but there is no destroying or hiding the truth. Even though he does not know it, Shivaay has been living a lie till now. What Anika and everyone who helped her did is merely ensure Shivaay's destruction if and when the truth gets revealed. There is no denying the fact that truth of being illegitimate will leave Shivaay devastated. But Anika's unconditional love, Dadi and OmRu's love and acceptance and the support of his loved ones would have helped him come to terms with this reality. It won't be all roses and rainbows, especially for a man like Shivaay; but it would slowly become bearable and eventually acceptable because of the presence of those who loves him regardless of the truth. But by burying the truth, what each and everyone who actively participated in this drama did is subject Shivaay to more heart-break and loss of trust. Coming from those he always stood by and for (family) this is going to be one hell of deal breaker.
Trust is a two way street and I am sure many of you feel that after everything Shivaay put Anika through, he is reaping what he sowed. But no one is perfect. SSO is a highly flawed man who has made some really bad decisions in life especially when it came to Anika. But what he feels for her today, the lengths he is ready to go for her, the pain he felt on coming to know the life she spent as a child, the guilt he experienced for many of his actions that caused her pain and misery bears witness to the truth that his feelings have changed. Today he is in love with his wife and wants nothing more than her happiness. The uneasiness in Shivaay's voice, and the disbelief in his eyes on seeing a never before seen side of Anika; to giving her the benefit of the doubt, which is a rare for Shivaay; till the moment Anika crosses the line (silencing Dadi and revealing Omkara was illegitimate) was a testimony to the fact that he isn't the same Shivaay Singh Oberoi he used to be. He is trying to change and is working towards it because of love, but before he could give Anika the world just like he promised to himself (after breaking down Rudra's room) Anika breaks his heart thinking it would shield him from a bigger one.
Which brings me back to the quote I mentioned above; Anika wanted to protect Shivaay from an impending doom so much that she went the extra mile for the same, and interestingly got the results she desired. So what would have happened if Anika had really fought for her love? Fought with all her heart to save her marriage? We have already established that when Anika put her mind, heart, and soul to get what she wanted she did. The universe (Read - several factors and people) helped her achieve the same. So had she put her mind, heart, and soul to fight for her love; regardless of how tough the fight got, success would have definitely been hers. Though NKK matters to Shivaay, what Anika failed to understand is that these things don't define the man he is. If it did, then Shivaay wouldn't have gone all out to protect Omkara from knowing the truth about his illegitimacy when Mrs. Kapoor threatened to expose the same or accept Anika who as of now is still an orphan, as his wife. For a second let us keep Anika aside and talk about Omkara. We know how much Shivaay loves OmRu and the lengths he would go for his brothers. Back then when the truth was twisted and presented to Shivaay (Omkara being illegitimate) he did everything in his power to keep it hidden from Omkara fearing his reaction (Remember the numerous suicide attempts). He bowed before Mrs. Kapoor's demands and agreed to marry Tia, never saw Omkara as anything but his beloved brother, and never looked, treated or behaved differently with Omkara. If NKK mattered so much to Shivaay, and if he judged people based on the same he would have treated Omkara the same way he would treat a person who fell below the set standards of NKK in Shivaay's dictionary. But he didn't. Why? Because Omkara was family and the love Shivaay had for his brother was much more than any NKK. This proves that Shivaay's LOVE' for his brothers, family and Anika is above any NKK. Last night's episode proved this too. But alas everyone believed otherwise and what unfolded was one of the most heart-breaking sequences ever on Indian Television simply for the sake of theatrics.

Why is it that the test of love should be one where there is a sacrifice involved when LOVE' itself is believed to be the most powerful force in the universe? If being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, loving someone deeply gives you courage (Lao Tzu). And so if Shivaay's love gave Anika the strength to break up their relationship, shouldn't Anika's love give her the courage to fight for that relationship?
As a producer and creator Ms. Khan is free to do as she pleases with her show. If she can conceive and conceptualize Ishqbaaz, she very well knows how to take it forward, but the question still prevails "Was it absolutely necessary to go down the same lane opted by a zillion shows in the past, and present for the 'Ishq ka Imtihaan' ?". A character (almost always the female lead) sacrificing her love, her family and her happiness for the sake of the one(s) she loves is not a new concept on Indian Telly. It's a highly successful formula and therefore understandable as to why the same recipe was used in Ishqbaaz. But coming from 4 Lions Productions, the character of Anika was a zabardast or should I say "kidki tod" one; then why was she asked to tread the same path that numerous others have walked before? There is no doubt about Shivika reuniting as they are the end-game, and the current happenings in the show are simply to add to the drama quotient. But was it really hard and impossible to create a meaningful and interesting track for one of the most beloved on-screen couples on Indian Television without the help of such overused shenanigans?
I guess we will never know.
