Author's Note: Hi, you guys! First, I am sooo, sooo, sooo sorry about my long absence. These past few weeks have been really hectic and busy for me, but I'm back! This is update is shorter than usual, but it is a continuation of the last chapter. The next chapter will definitely be a lot longer since I am just getting back to continuing this. Without out a further delay, here is the second part of Chapter Nine!

Chapter Nine- Part B

It was a rare Friday night on which Shivaay had found himself leaving the office at a reasonable hour. He had been especially busy lately with all of the upcoming deals and mergers. Upon coming home, he had decided to spend some quality time with his brothers. This would help him unwind and destress. He just wanted to do something relaxing. Soumya had joined in too. They had settled on baking some sweets and later watching a movie together. Shivaay slowly churned the buttercream frosting for the macaroons around. Soumya had especially requested that her bade bhaiya make macaroons for her. The process of making the macaroons was meticulous and required precision, but it kept him preoccupied. His mind was swarming with thoughts. Of course, his mind was filled with thoughts about her. Anika Kabeer Choudhury. Anika. He was confused by her and Shivaay Singh Oberoi was rarely confused. Especially, not by a woman. But Anika wasn't an average woman now, was she?

Shivaay simply couldn't figure her out. He was confused by her odd behavior and he couldn't accurately articulate her personality either. She was spunky and vivacious and loud and colorful, but that's wasn't the only side to her. He had realized that recently. She was also fragile and delicate in a way. He had discovered that the night of the award's ceremony, the night of the first kiss that they had shared with each other. As they spent more and more time with each other, he had observed cracks in her resolve. Of course, a flower needed sunshine and rain water to thrive and glow. But, when there was storm? The thick rain drops weighed her petals down and she closed up. He had noticed this the night of the business award ceremony. The way that she had closed up when she was faced with the bright flashing lights of the paparazzi had been his first clue. He knew that Anika generally kept a low profile. Over the years, he had definitely seen the Choudhury family around. After all, they ran in the same social circles and belonged to the same industry. His father and uncle had done business with Anika's father before. He had known Mallika for quite some time, even before she had started dating Siddharth. But Anika? He had known her for a short while. He didn't know much about her and that's what had driven him to ask Khanna to build a file on Anika when he had first contemplated getting engaged to her. She perplexed him and he wanted to figure her out. But documents and statements had only left him with more questions and no answers.

Rudra and Soumya's bickering in the background brought him out of his trance, breaking him out of his thoughts about Anika. "Why can't we watch a horror movie? Are you too scared, Cry Baby Singh Oberoi?"

"No! I'm just saying that we should watch a superhero movie."

"Absolutely not!"

"Why not?"

"Because it's just a muscular man in tight clothes trying to save a city and some conventionally attractive woman. They're all the same and it's so boring!"

"That's the whole appeal of them!" Rudra argued.

"I refuse to watch a superhero movie! Either we watch a serious drama or a horror movie!" Soumya gave him her ultimatum.

Shivaay sighed and pinched his nose in exasperation. He didn't know what to do with these two. Rudra was normally childish but his childishness increased ten-fold whenever he was around Soumya. And Soumya? She didn't back down in an argument with Rudra ever. In a lot of ways, she reminded him of Anika. He shook his head and cleared his mind. He couldn't get rid of her in his thoughts for even a moment. He cleared his throat.

"Soumya, Rudra, go down to the home theater and choose a movie that you both like. I don't care what it is, but I can't listen to this incessant bickering for another moment. We have a large selection of movies; I'm sure you will find something that you can both agree on."

That sent Soumya and Rudra quietly apologizing for their outburst and scurrying out of the room. With Rudra and Soumya's departure, the peace and quiet resumed. Om continued to quietly work continue on his own dish. Shivaay's thoughts returned to Anika. Their first date had not gone as smoothly as he had anticipated. A meeting had come up last minute and what could he do? Certainly, he couldn't abandon his deal. He had a commitment to his family and his company. He knew he also had a commitment to Anika. After all, she was another one of his deals too, right? She was slowly becoming a part of his family, a small part of his brain told him. Nonetheless, he knew that he had screwed up. However, that wasn't the biggest thing that bothered him. It was Anika's reaction to him almost forgetting about their first date. She had been upset at first, but then? She had acted nonchalantly. It was almost as if she had just expected that he would be late. She wouldn't even let him explain to her why he had been late. It was almost as if she would have accepted it if he had just not shown up. It bothered him and he felt guilty. Is this how little Anika expected of him? Of their relationship? If this had been him at the very beginning of their relationship, he would have been gleeful. After all, it would be better to have a wife who had no expectations of you, right?

He knew that Anika took pride in her small and growing business. He was happy that she would have had something to preoccupy her time instead of being a typical demanding and clingy wife. After marriage, he would have carried on with his life and his business while she would carry on with hers. They would be married but they would each have their separate lives. Back then, he had decided that this would be the perfect plan for them to coexist in this marriage. However, that wasn't exactly the situation now, was it? Things had changed. Shivaay knew this now. Things were not the same between him and Anika and he realized that he was okay with that. More than okay, in fact. He was delighted. Their relationship was taking a new turn and he wanted to know more about her, beyond what he had discovered through his own research. He wanted to explore this new dimension of their relationship. Hence, why he had suggested the date in the first place.

He had gone and ruined that. However, he didn't know how exactly he could rectify the situation. The problem was that he didn't know how because he couldn't understand why Anika was like this. He hadn't figured her out completely and that bothered him.

Shivaay continued to mindlessly whip his frosting and Om reached over to taste it. He immediately spit it out. "Fhat the wuck?!? Shivaay, you used salt instead of sugar for the buttercream. Tera dimaag kaha hai?"

Om's outburst pulled Shivaay out of his thoughts. "What? What are you talking about? There's no way I did that," Shivaay said as he dipped a spoon into the mixture and took a taste. He immediately split it out and swore loudly. He released a sharp breath and dumped the wasted mixture into the trash. Om observed Shivaay's actions with a raised brow. Shivaay proceeded to start all over again and stirred the butter, sugar and vanilla together. He noticed his brother staring at him. "What? Why are you staring at me for?"

"Kuch nahi, I was just thinking." Shivaay continued working on his new batch of buttercream and Om slyly kept observing Shivaay. He knew something was up with his brother. There was something bothering him. He knew that now. Otherwise, The Great Shivaay Singh Oberoi never would have made a ridiculous mistake such as using salt instead of sugar for buttercream. He was too much of a perfectionist to warrant such a mistake. His mind was preoccupied and Om wondered what it was that was taking his brother's attention away from his task. He seemed conflicted and Om have never seen Shivaay in such a state.

Author's Note: I hope you guys liked that! This was a pretty difficult part for me to write since it involved telling Shivaay's perspective and we all know how complicated and confusing he is. Please leave a comment and like this :)
