Jo kal tak tha kinare pe,
Aaj do kashtiyon pe sawaar.
Om spouted these elegant lines about Shivaay, following the moonlight-embrace scene in Episode 32.
This is when Shivaay is caught between his socially ordained, acceptable and validated choice (Tia), and what was soon to be his heart's desire- the spunky, lively, wild-child Anika, who would never fit into the mould of what Shivaay Singh Oberoi- S.S.O., the blue-eyed heir of the Oberoi family, considers an ideal wife and life partner. One who would go on to become the mother of his children.
Today, Shivaay is caught in a similar conundrum- do kashtiyon par sawaar.
One is again, his heart's desire, his beloved wife whom he cannot even think letting go of. Leave alone fathoming the idea, he cannot even begin to consider it. His strictures to her following the OBros scene; first, not to leave the room, and then, not to set foot outside the mansion, testified to this.
The other, is sadly is his own prejudices/belief system/ideologies. Naam Khoon aur Khandaan. Something ingrained in his being, which cannot but think of the myriad questions that society will raise. About his wife, his family, his children. More importantly, the questions that he himself will raise...which could potentially create a chasm between him and Anika forever. Damaging and destroying something so precious, so dear...which has come to mean the world to him. This paradise, this Garden of Eden which embodied serenity, laughter and love. All be-spoiled by the serpent (Pinky) who maliciously used his own weakness against him, suggestively and surreptitiously poisoning him like Honest Man Iago, who did not implicate himself directly in the rift between Othello and Desdemona, but was still the underlying cause nonetheless.
So yeah...Shivaay aaj phir do kashtiyon pe sawaar hai.
Quite the conundrum indeed.
To me...this was the enduring image from the episode.
The palpable fear on Shivaay's face as he clasped Anika close to him..his anguish that he himself may single-handedly destroy what they share. That he has to choose between his love and the cornerstone of his identity. That it is his long-standing beliefs which will end up ruining this world that comprises of only Anika and him. A beautiful, precious and fragile world.
