Concluding part - Part 3

"Did you or didn't you trace the phone, I need just a 'Yes' or 'No' man, not your bloody excuses!! Call me only when you have results", I bellowed into my phone at Khanna as if it were his fault that her phone was untraceable, disconnected the call and slammed my fist on the desk.

I saw a very uncomfortable looking Mishra standing in front of me shuffling from one foot to the other, as if waiting for one small indication from me, which would let him know that he could leave the cabin.

I leaned back slowly in my very comfortable chair, placing an elbow on each arm as I made a steeple of my fingers, raised an enquiring eyebrow and asked through clenched teeth, "You have been at it since morning Mishra and you mean to tell me that there is no clue, no lead, nothing whatsoever that will give us some information about where Mr. Rohit Singh Thakkur may have this office in this tiny city?? Are you fed up of your job already?? It will be a pity if I have to let you go and find a replacement because I know Mrs. Oberoi is kinda fond of you."

That was enough to make Mishra finger his collar, that he seemed to be getting very hot under, and ask me to give it a bit more time. He was going to try some unconventional methods to acquire this information and if he was successful he should have some results soon. I nodded affirmatively and waved him out as I pushed myself out of my comfortable chair, picked my phone and dialed her number once more. Same message - this number was not accepting calls.

"Dammit!!", I swore as I lifted my arm to fling the phone across the room but caught myself just in time, realizing that it probably was not the best move right now.

I walked over to the huge glass window that afforded me a view of the beautiful Mumbai sea line, shoved my hands deep in my trouser pockets and stared out broodingly, while my fingers pulled out the little trinket from my pocket and I stared at it thinking of its owner.

It was one of the crescent moons from Annika's bracelet that I had so rudely pulled off from my kurta button a few days ago. Even though I knew it was all an act that we had to keep up, it still hurt doing that to her and watching her eyes fill up with unshed tears. I had fisted it and shoved it into my kurta pocket as I walked out in anger.

I assumed she had forgotten about it and had decided to keep it attached to a little gold chain in my pocket - something like my own personal good luck charm' you know?

I heard a knock on my door and my P.A. entered and cleared her throat, waiting for me to turn around from the window.

"Yes Anita??!", asked irritably without turning around, knowing fully well that it must be something extremely important or she would not have disturbed me fully aware of how testy I could be in the mood that I was in right now.

"Err.. It's Mrs. Annika Oberoi on your private line Sir. She wants to know if you would like to take her call or not as she is calling from a pay phone a short distance away from her work place. She is on her lunch break and has only 10 mins before she goes back to work", she finished the whole message without pausing for a breather.

I swung around and dashed to the desk, pressing the button and picking up the line with speed that would have put a switchboard operator to shame. I saw Anita leave discreetly and shut the door behind her as I roared into the phone, "Where the hell are you??!!"

".. . and a good afternoon to you too Mr. Oberoi. I had a lovely first day, thank you very much for asking and am enjoying being back in the work force once again. I have been a bit over whelmed with all the emails that we were flooded with since last week as well as labelling and sorting out all the decorations into theme groups since late this morning. It is a good thing that I have a jovial, helpful, adorable and very humorous business partner that helps me get through this task by making it more fun than work but then I have to be rewarded in some way for putting up with a grouchy Bhagad Billa for the rest of the time. Anyways, I have to rush and have emailed Anita the address since the phone battery died and no I do not need a new one. See you at dinner. Bye!!"

"Annika!!! ... Annika ... don't you dare hang up on me!!," I yelled into a dead receiver.

The door opened a crack and I saw Anita poke her head in with a slip of paper in her hand. I slammed the receiver down, pulled on my jacket as I strode towards her and took the piece of paper with a curt 'thank you' while I heard her inform me that Khanna had brought the car around and was waiting for me.

Speeding towards the address that Annika had emailed Anita, I pulled up the information about the Business that was named 'Wedding Dreams and Fairytales', thanks to Anita's research, on my phone. What kind of a business name was 'Wedding Dreams and Fairytales' for Pete's sake!!

I chuckled as I imagined the reaction of the prospective grooms as Rohit handed out his business card with 'Wedding Dreams and Fairytales', written on it.

Khanna swung into a huge compound that looked like it was the office as well as the storage area for the wedding decorations. I had my door open even before he hit the brakes as I had a bone to pick with my very sassy wife today.

To my immense surprise the gate had 4 security guards and as one of them stepped forward to block my path, I glared at him and asked tersely, "Office??". He stepped back as he saw Khanna fall in step just behind me and pointed to a small structure just to our left that looked like a house cum office space.

I bristled with the knowledge that Rohit not only worked but lived here as well. I was liking this Rohit less and less by the minute and was determined to convince Annika to refuse the offer he had made. The whole place was looking shady to me.

I ran up to the entrance door taking two steps at a time with Khanna right behind me. I walked in to find an empty living room/office set up and could hear voice and female laughter coming from somewhere below us. I stepped into the other room and saw stairs leading down. As I descended them I heard hushed conversation between a man and a woman followed by soft laughter and a female giggle.

To say I was seeing red and felt like a raging bull would have been an understatement at this point. I turned and raised a hand asking Khanna to wait there for me as had no idea what I was going to find down there or what I was going to do about it. As I reached the bottom of the stairs, in the dim light I scanned what looked like a store room that had decorations and statues placed randomly everywhere.

Annika's words flashed through my mind as I walked towards the voices, " ... as well as labeling and sorting out all the decorations into theme groups since late this morning. It is a good thing that I have a jovial, helpful, adorable and very humorous business partner that helps me ..."

No!! It was not possible.. stop it Shivvay said my inner voice.. this is your Annika we are talking about not any random girl. As I walked past a statue I saw two hugging silhouette's in the dimly lit corner and I felt the wind being knocked out of my sails. I knew that the man was Rohit because I saw his profile but all I saw of the woman he was hugging were her arms around him.

Crazed in my anger and blinded by fury, I marched briskly to the couple, gripped the disgusting man by his shoulder and turned him around, landing a strong one on his sickeningly handsome face. As my fist made contact with his jaw I heard a crunch sound and heard her scream "Rohit!!!" and cover her mouth in shock.

That did not sound like Annika??!!! I snapped my head up from a bleeding Rohit who lay groaning on the ground at my feet to the girl who stood crying and scared looking at me in shock.

"Shivvay!!! ... what have you done??!!! What in the world is the matter with you??!!", I heard Annika yell from behind me as I heard her run towards us.

She hugged the girl in her arms and consoled her saying, It's ok.. it's ok Sanjana. No need to be afraid. This is my husband Shivvay Singh Oberoi."

Half an hour and a dozen apologies later, as the girls were finishing up inside for the day, I sat sipping coffee in the office verandah with a surprisingly genial Rohit, who was looking worse for wear but grinning from ear to ear and shaking his head. I realized then that he would not have been much older than Om was.

"What in the world is so funny about being punched in the face Rohit?", I asked sternly, completely perplexed and bewildered at his behavior, considering I had punched the man square in the face, without giving him a chance to defend himself.

"Just the fact that Sanjaana has met a slightly older version of me and will find me a little less weird now", he replied honestly as he laughed softly.

"Excuse me!!" I replied not sure whether to be offended or flattered by what he had just said.

He explained how the business was something he had invested in secretly and set up for his would be wife Sanjaana, with the aim of keeping her under his watch because she had refused to work with him in the Family business after they married. Being a fiercely independent middle class girl who he had ended up falling in love with to the disappointment of his family, she would not hear about being dependent on him financially if she could help it.

Hence he had the heavy security at the office premises and had picked Mrs. Annika Singh Oberoi as a business partner for her. He knew that she would be perfect for Sanjaana and that he could not have chosen a better role model or Business House Bahu for her to hang out with. She was after all Shivvay Singh Oberoi's wife and for him that itself was enough.

The girls done closing up we shook hands and I assured Rohit that Khanna would drop and pick Annika from tomorrow and if he was ok with it she could pick Sanjaana on the way as well. After another honest apology for scaring the girl out of her wits I shook hands with Rohit and escorted a very upset Mrs. Oberoi to the car.

As Khanna pulled out of the gate, she turned to speak with me only to have me hold my palm up to silence her while I stated very simply, "If you are going to leave the house make sure you keep me informed as to where and when. I do not appreciate not knowing where you are Annika!! You know I worry about you."

I saw her smirk and reply, "And what has that got to do with punching poor Rohit??!! Why DID you punch him Shivvay??"

I turned away from her and ignored the question knowing fully well where this was going.

She laughed mischievously, as she leaned on my arm and whispered in my ear, "Admit it Mr. Shivvay Singh Oberoi Ki Tumhe Fark Padata Hai."

In one swift move I pulled her into my arms as I stared into those twinkling eyes and the face that wore the patent naughty expression whenever she teased me and admitted openly, "Han mujhe fark padata hai Annika, bahut fark padata hai kunki tum meri ho, sirf meri!! Yeh baath humesha yaad rakhana", and I pressed my lips to her forehead, at peace that all was well in this little secret part of my world again.

The world that had just me and her.
