That was simply superb!! It was delightful to see the change time has brought to Shivay and seriously, reading about his trials and tribulations over handling a very emotionally unstable, hormonal and heavily pregnant wife was the best thing ever!!!
It was super fun to see how Anika has become a part of the family.
I am laughing so much after reading this! The humour is simply perfect! Loved it!!! You are genius!!!

Twerps!!🤗
Thank you so much for reading and so much more for the sweet, generous comment!! You really made my day!!
I always wanted Anika to find a loving supportive family in the Oberois ( as crazy as they are ) and since we haven't really gotten to see that in effect in the show yet, I am just trying to make do with reading some amazing ffs on the forum and writing whatever little I can myself!! So I cant tell you how thrilled I am to have you appreciate it!!

Love,
Anu.

Anuu Anu, is it wrong that I want you to continue that OS into a long-form series and show us little insights to this side of ShivIka? Because I really do! That was so adorable arghhh. I long to see a frantic Shivaay and a pregnant Anika, and your OS simultaneously dosed and intensified the desire, somehow. I especially loved how everyone supported Anika and Shivaay sulked in the corner - I could actually see it happening before my eyes. Cute, cute OS that just lifted my spirits! ❤️

IX| Atlantis

Author: emerald39
Genre: Angst/Tragedy (Warning: A little dark as well.)
Pairing: PriVeer

Summary/Synopsis: Sometimes love, and love alone, just isn't enough.

Note: The following OS ignores everything that has been going on on the show. Set in a world where Ranveer's sister is dead, Ranveer doesn't have a nephew, and Kamini/Daksh Randhawa do not exist.

--

The first time Priyanka Singh Oberoi heard of the lost city of Atlantis, the five-year-old almost lost her mind.

How in the world, could an entire empire be lost beneath the sea? How could no one have made any efforts to rediscover it? How? The girl could not accept that at all.

After having read about a dozen fictionalized tales of the lost city, young Prinku came to a sombre conclusion: she was going to have to discover the city of Atlantis.

No, really, she actually put together an adventure's garb together, complete with a giant hat, a swim suit (you've got to swim to the depths of the ocean to get to a lost city, don't you?) and a pair of binoculars larger than her tiny face. And she announced to anyone who would listen that she was on her way to discover Atlantis, and perhaps several other worlds hidden deep beneath the sea. She was going to save it all, and then build a world of her own.

"Can you imagine that, Bhaiya? A whole new world, hidden in the depths of the sea? When I discover it, I can rule that world!" she had excitedly told Shivaay Bhaiya.

"Prinku...Atlantis doesn't exist," came his exasperated reply.

But the little girl refused to believe it. She was going to discover Atlantis, and she is going to rule the world. There she will build a happy life for herself, her family, and all others who live in the world she would discover.

And then she grew up, and the lost world of Atlantis dissolved behind the sea of failed exams, broken relationships, and anxiety-induced insomnia.

Odd phenomenon, ain't it? Growing up?

--

Priyanka was not the cause of Nisha Randhawa's death.

Not directly, at least.

It took them some time, but the case, which had been dragged to the front by ACP Ranveer Singh Randhawa, was finally put to rest when the officials finally discovered a CCTV footage that was thought to have been deleted.

Further investigations revealed that Nisha was already hurt and bleeding by the time she had ran towards the road. Priyanka's car had barely even grazed her, but it had been enough momentum for the young girl to accidentally fall off the edge of the road, plunging fifty feet down - right into a cold, hard, concrete pavement.

When the truth finally made it to light, Ranveer Singh felt somewhat...relieved. Priyanka Oberoi had not actually killed his sister. The entire incident had been sort of a freak accident. Of course, the ACP unleashed a whole new hell on the goons who had seriously hurt his sister when they tried to rob her, but he couldn't find it in him to blame the young Oberoi Princess anymore. Not after the way she broke down upon seeing an old childhood picture of Nisha and himself, after the court had ruled her to be innocent, and went on her knees as her lips parted to repeat just one word over and over again: sorry.

--

The Oberoi Mansion occupants were amazed, and slightly puzzled, the day the baby of the family came home and announced that she was in love with the man her brothers seemed to hate with passion.

She wished she could say it was a whirlwind of romance, but it really wasn't. After Nisha's case was cleared, they started off as amicable acquaintances, which then grew into a fond friendship, which then took root deep in their hearts and blossomed into a love that pleasantly surprised the couple. As the days rolled into months, and then years, they realised that they could no longer look at another and feel the same way they felt about each other.

So, when Tej and Shivaay, almost as if competing with each other, brought rishta after rishta for dear Prinku, the couple decided that they should stop their efforts once and for all, and broke the news of their relationship. It wasn't an easy feat, to finally get married - it took Priyanka and Ranveer a solid eight months to convince the Oberois.

But the point is, they did end up getting married. Priyanka and Ranveer started building their lives from the scratch, and suddenly, Prinku's childhood dream was coming true. Here was a whole new world she had discovered, and here she was, ruling and nurturing it.

This was her Atlantis.

--

Was the 5-year-old Prinku aware of the weak foundation and crumpling roots of Atlantis? Because the 26-year-old Prinku certainly became aware of it a year into her marriage.

While she was truly happy with her husband, Priyanka couldn't get rid of a nagging thought at the back of her mind: if it weren't for her, Nisha Randhawa might be alive today. It didn't matter to her that criminologists and doctors had specified that the girl would have lost her life, whether or not she had fallen off the bridge. The thought, that soul-sucking voice, was always present in Priyanka's head. Sometimes it was loud, sometimes, when she had more control over herself, it was soft. The thought became so palpable, Prinku could feel the guilt gnawing away at the depth of her heart every time her eyes fell on the picture of young Ranveer and Nisha.

"Do you think I am guilty?" she finally whispered to Ranveer one quiet evening, when they were both sipping their cups of tea.

Her husband had given her a bewildered look. "Guilty...for what?"

Prinyanka shrugged. "Just...nothing. It's nothing," she shook her head after a few long moments of silence. Her eyes subconsciously darted to the same photo frame of Ranveer and his sister, something she realised Ranveer had seen.

Heaving a sigh, Ranveer wrapped an arm around her, and gently kissed her forehead. "You are one crazy woman, do you know that?" he asked her quietly.

He didn't answer the question, Priyanka noted. But she smiled anyway.

--

Ranveer wasn't blind. He might have missed it at first, but it soon became too obvious. The way Priyanka sometimes stood still before the same photograph, the way she would start pulling at her shawl every time Old Bridge Road' was mentioned in any random conversation, the way she would suddenly look at him, as if trying to figure him out - he noticed everything.

Eventually, he figured out that she was feeling guilty. While the law had pardoned her for a mistake that was barely even hers, her own mind held her arrested.

Ranveer tried to take her mind of it. Both of them were busy with their respective jobs, but when he was away on a particular long mission, he would always encourage her to stay at the Oberoi Mansion, or stay over at her friends'. He figured, if she was surrounded by her loved ones whenever he was away, she should be okay, right?

Wrong. Ranveer soon saw a very distinct pattern: it didn't matter who she spent time with, when it came to this guilt that seemed to be crushing her, it was he who she sought for reassurance. He, who was the brother of the woman she had supposedly killed'.

Ranveer brushed it all aside. Every time she came to him needing the assurance, he gave it to her...as much as he could, at least. He held her in his arms till she stopped trembling. This is just temporary, he thought to himself. After all, he fell in love with the intelligent, compassionate, strong woman Priyanka Oberoi revealed herself to be when they first became friends. That was the girl he was waiting for to come back.

That hope lasted, till he himself began questioning if she was indeed guilt-free. Prinku repeatedly talked of the guilt, of the anxiety as a result of it, so often, that it began meddling with the ACP's head.

She wasn't completely wrong, was she? She had caused Nisha's death. Indirectly, that is. While that was something he could overlook in the beginning, with it being in focus so frequently now, he couldn't just let it go. And so, each time Priyanka sought him for the same reassurance over and over again, Ranveer started reciprocating lesser. And this odd cycle repeated itself over and over again, till there was a barely visible, barely talked about, but very much existent barrier between them.

--

Almost two years after tying the knot, Priyanka was staring at a marriage that had been half-ruined by her guilt and Ranveer's deeply buried resentment. She knew he didn't hate her - no, he was still the man who cared for her, who cuddled her whenever there was a raging storm outside, who kissed her goodnight every single night. But gone was the ever-present warmth and intimacy. They were just a couple in love holding back, silently fighting to look past their own internal struggles.

Love wasn't enough. Not for them, at least.

And so, a helpless Prinku watched her Atlantis crumble before her eyes.

--

They were arguing. Again. Ranveer wasn't sure exactly what the argument was about, but he was just pissed. Did she really need to nit-pick at everything at this point? Both of them were now screaming at each other, and the fight was reaching a peak that Ranveer knew he should avoid.

Alas, anger overrode his thoughts.

"What will you do? Run the car over someone else to vent your anger?"

He regretted those words the moment they left his mouth. Open mouth, insert foot. You dumb piece of -

While he was scolding himself, Prinku had grabbed the car keys and walked out. She didn't look back, not even when her usually quiet husband came running after her, apologising and asking her to stop. And Ranveer watched her drive away, fingers pulling at his sleek hair.

What an idiot he was. Now he had to wait for to come back to apologise to her.

--

Priyanka couldn't remember the last time her body ached so much. Her head, her chest, her legs, and abdomen, everything hurt.

She tried to remember exactly what happened. There was a car...she was driving the car...there was a truck, looming right before her...and then she was flying. The last thing she remembered was a cold, concrete, pavement.

And then, darkness.

--

"It was a head-on collision."

Those were the only words running through his mind as Ranveer sprinted down the long corridors of the hospital, in search of the ICU.

"Prinku...Pri- PRIYANKA SINGH OBEROI RANDHAWA!" he finally yelled at the poor receptionist, who all but spluttered the bed number out to him, and then he was on his way again.

The sight that met him in the cold, white room shook his core.

Tubes, wires, and machines, so many of them, all over and around her. And there lay his wife, almost unrecognisable with all of the bandages. His feet sort of stumbled its way to her, and he went down on his knees next to her. He touched her hesitantly, almost afraid she would dissolve before his eyes.

"Don't leave me," were the first words he managed to get out, before a suppressed sob escaped his mouth. He could not take another loss. He could not watch his Prinku leaving him, as well. If she would just open her eyes and see him now, oh, he would take back everything he said. He would clutch her to his chest and never let go. He would -

"R'veer..."

He rubbed his eyes aggressively to focus on her face again. She was awake, and she was looking at him.

"I am here, Princess. I am right here, I am not going anywhere. I love you, I love you, I...please, please don't leave me. Stay. For me." The words were tumbling out of his mouth at top speed, he wasn't sure she even caught them all.

"R'veer..." was all she said, before her eyes closed again.

--

Priyanka was drifting in and out of consciousness. It was becoming too much for her, the sound, the bright light, the pain, oh-ho, the pain. She just wanted to sleep. But she still opened her eyes whenever she could, just to catch the glimpses of the faces she loved so.

Mum...Papa...Dadi...Shivaay, O and Rudra Bhaiya...Anika and Saumya Bhabi...Chotti Ma and Chotte Papa...Ranveer.

Ranveer was the only person who managed to get a word out of her, which surprised even her. He was saying something, but she only managed to get the last bit.

"Stay. For me."

Oh Ranveer', she thought, for you, I would lay down my life.'

She wanted to say that, she really did try to say that, too. But once again, it was just too much. So the assurance and the love she wanted to verbally give him went unsaid.

Ah, and there it was again. That all-too-familiar darkness. This time, it was a little more invasive, pressing in from all sides. Despite the hand that was clutching hers desperately, Priyanka gave in to the darkness' demands, and let it engulf her completely. Was it death? Or simply medicine-induced sleep? She couldn't tell.

But she knew that she was tired. Tired in general, but tired of a number of things as well. Sleep was what she needed, and sleep was what she would get. As long as she was asleep, she could go back to her dreams in peace. There, she was safe. There, she could perhaps pretend all was well. Her anxiety, her failing marriage, her soul-crushing guilt - all of these would cease to exist.

There, she could even build her very own Atlantis once again. And there she would live with the man she loved, happily ever after.

End.

Oh my god! Anu! What did I read?! This was just so intensely beautiful and heart rending and poetic and just indescribably haunting! Loved this! The end was perfect. It was sad but it was just perfect. The development of the story, the building up of the characters, the narration of the relationship between the couple...all of it was done so realistically. And the way you have weaved in the legend of Atlantis into the story! Like I am seriously in awe of you right now. You are brilliant!
