Anika is lying

She is defo lying. I think the phones were just bloopers by the creatives. She is lying to protect him. Eventhough she is angry and upset with him she could not see him suffering for a crime he did not commit. She put herself at stake to protect him. Well maybe if she was the old anika she would have not bothered. But she is now emotionally connected to him.
