Omkara stumbled in to the dark room. He dragged himself to the light switch barely conscious.
Where was that damn swi- Aarh! He closed his eyes and doubled up in pain. He let out a low groan as he realized he had hit the table. Light filled the room as Omkara opened his eyes. Even though he was barely in his senses he acknowledged the presence of another person in his room. Shivaay.
"Om." Shivaay's voice shook in suppressed anger. His eyes were ablaze with unmistakable fury. "Where. Were. You?" Shivaay spat out the words. Ignoring his brother, Om grabbed the table and straightened himself. He rested his left hand on his knee as he dragged himself to the bed.
"Omkara!" The shout reverberated across the room. Shivaay's fists were clenched and his hands shook in an effort to not punch his brother. Om coolly sat down on the bed and looked up at Shivaay unaffected by his anger. Shivaay's furious eyes met Omkara's unwavering ones. The air around them vibrated with tension. Hardly any people had the guts to be in the same room as Shivaay Singh Oberoi and none had the courage to meet his eyes. But Omkara was an exception.
"This is- this is not your office...Shivaay. Stop shouting." Each word shook in an effort to stay sober. Shivaay took a deep breath to control his anger.
"Omkara Singh ob-"
"Do not call me that" Om screamed with ferocity. "I am Omkara. Just Omkara." Shivaay ignored his scream.
"Where were you? I- we were worried." Shivaay's voice softened. Om stared at him. Seconds trickled by before he began laughing like a madman. Shivaay's heart constricted at the sight of his brother. The fragile Omkara. The broken Omkara.
"It's just you Shivaay. Rudra and Dadi too I suppose. I bet no one noticed that I was away." He fell on the bed and stared up at the ceiling, slowly controlling his giggles until it died down. The worry lines on Shivaay's forehead increased as Om's expression shifted to one of Melancholia.
"I am not high Shivaay." Omkara answered to his brorther's gaze quietly. Just drunk. He rolled to the side of the bed and turned off the lights. "Now leave. I need to sleep." Om's words echoed in the darkness. Shivaay stood gazing at the bundle that was Om bathed in the moonlight from the window pane. He had lost track of time when he saw Om's chest rise and fall rhythmically. A lone tear made its way down his cheek and disappeared behind his chin. He turned around and left.
