Hello people,Keshni here, I've been around the forum for a while now and this is officially my first post here!
Enjoy the read!š³
OS: It started with a lie.
"I'm coming, Mr. Oberoi," exclaimed an exasperated Omkara, before cutting the call abruptly.
Yet another family function!
Not that he hated family functions, no, far from that! He loved spending time with his family, more specifically his brothers. What he hated was how his opportunist father was always showing off his son as a probable Oberoi heir. He hated how his mother was silently humiliated. He hated to see the surprised look that people threw his way when he mingled with Shivaay.
They probably expect us to follow the footsteps of our parents! Tough luck-We're never going to be a source of entertainment for them.
For his father, he was only a prized object, an assurance that his power and glory would remain in his own territory. Recently, his father has been driving him to the edge by suggesting him to get into a marriage cum business deal with one of his business partners. He had vehemently denied to accept such a proposal, but his father wouldn't leave it to that, would he?
The vibrating sound of his mobile broke the train of his thoughts.
Rudra!
"Where are you bro? You promised to be here at 8 pm and you are already ten minutes late!"
"Chill Rudra, I'm just leaving. I'll be there in a wink" he replied, tongue-in-cheek!
He was planning to continue the teasing session when something struck his mind.
"What time did you say it was?" Om asked urgently.
"Did you mortgage your watch or what! It's ten past eight already."
Shit! I missed her.
"Rudra, I'll talk to you when I'm home"
Om threw his phone to the next seat and sighed in frustration, realising that his day was going from bad to worse. He started his car quickly, hoping against hope that would still be able to catch a glimpse of her.
Her. Thinking about her itself calmed him down and brought a slight grin on his face. To the world, he was a mystery, but to him, she was one.
She walked with a mysterious aura which he wanted to unravel.
The first time he saw her, she was blissfully enjoying the first rain. Carefree. She was something which he could never be. And this is what attracted him to her. Of course, her beauty was a plus, but there was something much more in her that tugged his heartstrings. Something so passionate that it made him feel alive.
And after that, he found himself leaving for home before eight; he would park his car on one side of the road where he had seen her for the first time, and would observe her as she passed by. At first, it was mere curiosity but then it became a kind of routine to leave earlier to catch a glimpse of her. After one month of the routine, he realised that he was turning into the very stalker which he had warned his sister about. And so, he tried to stop himself and for two days he engrossed himself in his works. However, his restlessness and desperation started to affect his work and he thus decided that he would just catch a glance at her everyday she wouldn't even know. He would neither talk to her nor ever try to know anything about her.
The routine turned into habit, habit into need. Though at the beginning he was troubled by the growing attraction and expectation, he knew he could do nothing to change it. Soon, his resistance melted into acceptance and the resolution of keeping a distance from her started to blur and he found himself wanting to be with her.
And to think, I don't even know her name.
His vibrating mobile brought him back to earth, yet again.
"Bro, where have you reached?"
"I'm near SV road and Rudra," he was about to admonish Rudra for calling him again and again but his words were cut short by his little brother.
"Listen, there's been 2 small blasts at SV Road, so take the diversion, Okay?"
"What? Where exactly"
"Near the supermarket"
Damn it!
Double Damn it. That's close to the place where I used to wait for her...
Shit!
The warning, from Rudra, that the media was there in mass, was left unheard as Om increased the speed of the car and rushed to her.
*********
Suddenly all Om could see was her, quite literally. Everything else fell away in the background. He could no longer hear the hullabaloo in the background. All he could hear was a dizzying sound that came from inside and pierced his ears. He didn't even know how he made his way to her, ignoring completely the policemen's warnings and the questioning eyes of the journalists. But as soon as he spotted her, he stood frozen, completely paralyzed, and whether it was the effect of the rain or of her, he didn't know.
There she was, lying on the ground and seething in pain. She had bruises all over; her soft pastel colored clothes was covered with patches of blood and mud. Her eyes were firmly closed, as if she was trying to get used to the excruciating pain. He couldn't believe the picture she made, he didn't want to, in fact. Ten seconds passed, and then twenty and thirty and still, he was glued to the ground. It was only when she let out a harsh, half stifled yell that he came back to the surface, absorbed the scene and swallowed the bubbling pain. He rushed to her as the metallic, iron-like, smell of blood overwhelmed his senses making him want to puke. He immediately secured her in his arms and soon she opened her eyes for some seconds, then closing it back she sighed in relief.
Being the son of Tej Oberoi meant that he was constantly in the limelight, which he frankly hated. Hence, as soon as he left the secluded place where he had previously found her and made his way to his car, he was crowded by journalists bombarding him with questions.
Questions to which he, for the time being, had no answer.
Questions like who was she?
What relationship they shared?
How long have they known each other?
Were they dating?
What did she meant to him...
The questions, one after the other, started to frustrate him since he knew that the gossip-mongers wouldn't let him move unless he gave them an answer.
I have to get her away from this.
I have to get her to the hospital.
I need to keep her safe.
If they wanted it, then, so be it!
**********
"Doctor, how is she?"
"Don't worry Mr. Oberoi, the bruises have been taken care of. Our nurses are taking special care of her and we will let you know when she is conscious so you can meet her."
"Thank you, Doc."
The doctor nodded and went his way. He sat on the chair, partly relieved that she was fine but he knew that this was not the time to relax since his mobile has been on a vibrating spree for the past hour. The list of missed call and messages was too long so he called the only person who would probably give him time to explain the situation.
Rudra
The call was answered in the first ring itself, but instead of Rudra, he heard Shivaay.
"I knew you would call Rudra. Where are you?"
"Listen Shivaay, I can explain and I will, if you give me time"
"I will listen to your explanations later Omkara, first tell me, is it true?"
"I, uhhh...It's a long story and.."
"Yes or No"
"No"
"What?"
"I said No"
"No' you two are dating or No' you are not?"
"We're not dating Shivaay"
"Then who the hell is she? And why did you pull such a stunt. Why did you lie? Do you know how that will affect our stock and..."
"Breathe Shivaay. I'll message you the name of the hospital and the ward, come and meet me here and I'll answer everything."
"Fine, I'm coming!"
Om was about to cut the call when he heard the chirping voice of Rudra.
"So, this is what the "Shit! I missed her," was about."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that your thoughts were so loud that I could hear them!"
Shit. Did I actually said that aloud!
"I'll talk to you later Rudra"
Lies. He absolutely hated them. He abhorred the term itself. His world revolved only around the truth. And there was nothing he believed in so much as the power of truth.
Then why did I lie? What was the need to confirm that we were dating? I could have easily gotten away by saying that she was an acquaintance or a friend or some relative! Why did I lie then?
Why did I fear that my eyes would give away everything if I lied that she was merely a friend.
Why did my chest hurt when I saw her body splattered with blood!
How could a girl whom I barely knew evoke such feelings in me. Heck, she probably doesn't even know that I exist and I asserted loudly to the entire world that we were dating.
What if she likes someone else...
Shit
NO!
Urrrgg this is so messed up! So confusing...the lies, the truths, it's all so mixed up!
"Mr. Oberoi, you can meet your girlfriend. She is conscious now," announced the smiling nurse.
The end ( Or, should I say The Beginning)
**
"Zindagi sajjani ho to usme thoda sa jhoot, thode se sapne milane padhtey hain"
"Nahi Dadi, main apni zindagi mein kabhi jhoot nahi mila sakta"
"Toh koi aur mila degi. Jo kami bande mein hoti hain nah, uske jodey mein puri ho jati hain!"
