There is modern dressing & then there is obscene dressing!!!!

Disclaimer- I have to lent out my frustration on ruin of my favorite show. So, no bashing. Criticism is welcome unless it's not personal attack.

And the title says it all & people here know the direct reference. Just now I saw New Arohi's pics for the upcoming track & the dressing blew up my mind.
There is a very thin line between the two & that line is modesty. You can't wear any dress everywhere. Dressing influences the environment around you & it's important that it matches with the tone. It tells a lot about your position & you as a person & that's why it makes a huge part of the first impressions about a person.
Just like you can't wear a saree on a beach, you can't wear a bikini or any revealing dress in temple or church or on a formal occasion.

"Just like men look best when dressed in formals, women look best dressed in modern yet elegant dressing."

Indian TV is not new to actresses cladding modern dresses. Almost every other show has that. It's the typical way to stereotype the villain in most of the cases but the trend has changed over few years.

Jennifer in Beyhadh as Maya clad some of the most modern & hottest dresses but none of them were obscene or vulgar.
Aliya in Kumkum Bhagya always wear modern dresses but they are not obscene.
Lovely in Kulfi Kumar Bajewala, Pankti in Tu Aashiqui, Ruhi in Yeh Hain Mohabbatein, Naira in YRKKH, Nia in Jamai Raja, Nandini in Silsila and the examples are numerous. All of these actresses are known for having experimented with subtle modern dresses which accent their beauty without revealing unnecessarily. Nia wore very modern dresses in Jamai Raja and they looked good as her character developed over time. But it's not working here. Arohi, even when played Tara brought her own taste to that dressing with sarees.

Now coming to IMMJ, Alisha has clad modern dresses in this show both as Tara and as Arohi & they were very subtle and modest. Watching in her in those dresses won't force you to avert your eyes or try hard to not look into certain way.

I have no problem with the skin show but it's not a western show, it's an Asian show and most of the Asian shows are known for modern but very elegant dressing sense without obscene skin show. Look at Korean, Chinese, Turkish shows, they are so subtle when it comes to modern dressing.

Nia's idea of sexiness is certainly about revealing more and it's fine on a movie or a web series when the character demands but here as Arohi who is already a well established character, she has just destroyed it. Arohi's character was known for modesty, innocence & subtle behavior even in her worst moments, her pain and suffering, and Nia has destroyed almost every single trait that was associated with her. She didn't get into the skin of Arohi's character and simply made out a completely different Arohi who can't be related with.

Nia could play neither Tara nor Arohi in this show as replacement. It would have been absolutely fine if she played a completely different new character of Anjali only.
And I say so, because Alisha already established & moulded both these character in certain ways & replacing her to play the very same characters would simply destroy them.
Alisha as Arohi- Innocent, Naive, Modest & later smart, and strong, still intact with her previous virtues. Her portrayal made you relate with her. It was not loud & you could feel and connect with it.
Alisha as Tara- Modern, Smart, Stylish, cunning, evil with madness & dangerous in everything she did, moving, walking, talking and what not. Her act is effortless & she doesn't over do it.

And Nia can never fit in these parameters of the basic traits of these character as replacement. She will bring certain differences when replaced. And that's why I am not a fan of replacements because they destroy the original characters except for in some rare cases only. The whole idea of revamp & replacement was the stupidest idea ever especially when the actress who was originally playing it is still there in the show. They could have approached the story in completely different way if they had wanted to end one of the Alisha's character but this isn't just working. Nia detaches me from Arohi. I don't feel like watching Deep-Arohi-Tara trio. It's a completely different trio altogether.

Nia was great as Alia Mukherjee in Twisted. That was her role. Maya was Jennifer's role. Arohi/Tara is Alisha's role. No one can play these character better than the actresses who originally played them. They are not comic book characters who can be played multiple times, these are shows & shows belong to original characters. Remakes work only for new generation who has never seen the past work.

I am not die hard fan or hater of either Nia or Alisha but some roles can be played best or better by certain actors only. Not every role can be played by everyone with that much conviction. There is a reason why casting is a very important process. Ekta Kapoor would have not auditioned thousands of girls for Jodha's character to make it more convincing if casting anyone worked in the industry. EK would have had 100s of actresses who could have played Jodha but she brought a new, unpopular face. Or she could have taken anyone to play Akbar instead of Tokas but she didn't. If soap queen herself & industry in general gives so much attention to casting, then there must be something huge in it to ponder upon. And casting a lead replacement is all the more of a bigger deal in a well established, popular show.

I have always been a fan of Patnaiks' shows because of their beautiful representation of stroylines that were different, be it Sadda Haq, KRPKAB or IMMJ. With each show I have had my ups & down but never was I forced to stop watching the show like IMMJ after a revamp. One week into revamp & I know I can't bear it anymore. But this show will always go down in a favorite show of mine for its unique storyline in the beginning I had never seen on ITV before. Well, now it doesn't make sense anymore with heap of inconsistencies & track closures.

I never gave my opinion after revamp on this forum..Didn't find it necessary as well as everything was being expressed here anyway. But I will say today. I stopped watching IMMJ after first 2-3 episodes of revamp coz i just couldn't connect with Nia's portrayal of Arohi..Even after that whenever i couldn't resist myself i did watch an episode here and there but still not able to connect with new Arohi. As you said doesn't feel like watching old IMMJ. Feels like it is a new show completely.
Arohi's character had subtlety which is lacking big time now. From dressing sense to the way arohi behaves everything has been changed drastically in the show now. I wonder how makers are unable to see that..As you rightly said you do not need to expose to be modern. You could look modern, wear fashionable clothes without exposing. Nia is not a new face to anyone. I never ever found it necessary to give an opinion on what she wears..It is her life, her choice. She should not be trolled for what she wears in her personal life at all (i heard she gets trolled) But when you are portraying an already established character you can't/should not ignore how that character used to dress before you took it. It affects the viewers big time. Tara was completely modern but her clothes never looked out of place or vulgar. I hope makers pay attention to that.

Now About the revamp. I seriously don't know what the makers are thinking. The way Deep is behaving with Tara, he was never like this with her. Tara was the one who used to rule DeeRa. It is really disheartening to see that not only Arohi's character but Deep's character has also been butchered so badly that there is no scope of whitewashing him anymore (still they will do it i know😆) Deep was supposed to be a grey character but this is not being grey. This is completely negative. I saw some old episodes after revamp and i found a huge difference in Deep. Deep's essence has lost now. I can't relate to this Deep anymore. He was grey not this evil to burn his wife and change her face. Deep was a mastermind but he had heart. His heart used to stop him from doing some things but mind used to win over heart. But does that happen anymore. We saw that Deep used to get himself beaten up if he hurt an innocent soul, what happened to all that now.

Arohi's character got butchered badly because of the change in lead and Deep's character because of turning him completely negative from grey. Nothing left in the show anymore. All links are broken. Deep's past is nowhere to be found out, Arohi's past which was already known to some extent is playing major role now. Her parents were dead when she was 6 and now suddenly her parents are alive. and a third person comes up from somewhere who killed her parents..great. Deep's past revelations with Roma being alive would have been a really good track but this revamp ruined everything.

So saddened to see IMMJ in such a condition, the show which i loved wholeheartedly.

Sorry about the rant..

Edit: I always loved your writing style. This post is just perfect example of constructive criticism👏

No need to be sorry dear. We watched this show for unique story and then for the actors.

Makers are sitting over pile of inconsistencies and not even clearing a single one. Arohi's parents were dead and she lived with her real brother but now out of nowhere her parents were alive even when she was so aged. They dies in an accident, no one knew of but here it's a complete mess.

This whole show has messed up beyond improvement. And there is no coming back now. Makers don't just stick to one track, introduce several tracks and solve none.

There was absolutely no need to bring the double role again with Arohi-Anjali if you wanted to be done with Arohi-Tara.

This show isn't IMMJ at all. It would have been best if makers had just ended it there instead of dragging it and come up with a new storyline and new show.

@Bold: completely 100% agree with these points. Story comes first. In the history of ITV this is the first time a character is replaced and the actress is still there in the show playing another character. If they wanted to get over with the double role why include Anjali-Arohi track. Isn't that repetitive. Makers are showing same old story packaged in a different bottle..But still it doesn't look like old IMMJ..what an irony..

the show is beyond improvement as you said. So many loopholes. No track had a proper ending. People die suddenly in the show out of nowhere and are suddenly alive out of nowehere😆

It was great to see you here after so long😃

Nice post your right only original can play the characters better not the replacement as far as nia dressing is concern last I saw her it was as her character aarohi now I don't watch the show so I can't comment on it cv should understand as you do plastic surgery of whole face and body it's not necessary same dress will suit both alisha and nia every body type has different types of dresses that suit them and I personally don't care about any kind of dressing sense only if the character demand aarohi character is all about simplicity your right you can look sexy by being decent too example as Tara and maya but I think it's all about carrying yourself

You said it all👏👏
Whatever an actor/actress wears in real life is none of our concern, but what character they're playing, in this case a sati savitri simple yet strong headed aarohi who's always seen in sarees, kurta suits, churidaar. ..is now wearing such deep cuts, exposing too much skin is not acceptable . Its Nia's touch in aarohi's character!

Plus alisha too wears shorts, doesn't mean ke wo Tara /aarohi ke character me bi shorts pehn kar onscreen ajae gi kisi din! Professionalism naam ki bi chiz hoti hy in industry!
