IKRS Friday 26th February 2016 ep 174 My Take ~ Smashing History!
Within our social structures another feature that makes us stand out as human beings from other living beings is the idea of allotting our family units certain named designations. We organize our lives by differentiating roles within our families, so that we can govern our lives in an orderly and disciplined fashion. Family members are bestowed titles, to earmark their significance and authority within the family unit and also to define both boundaries and regard within relationships. The immediate family would emerge as our parents, mother and father, through whom branches off our relationships with siblings , brother, sister. Families may also experience links with maternal and paternal grandparents. All this may be in joint family units, counted as part of immediate family too. The family unit also has defined titles of aunts ,uncles and cousins which would come under the wider family unit. Interestingly enough, the face of the immediate family undergoes change , as children marry and thus the family embraces new members like the son in law and daughter in law. These relations would be seen as outsiders, grafted onto the family tree. Within the Asian households in particular, the son in law, a sisters husband's role occupies a prestigious place as he the spouse of the households daughter . Today's episode is about the auspicious welcome of shalu's prospective husband, and Viplav's prospective brother in law, Kanak's son in law , into the tripathi household ..
Dhani had heard the dreaded voice from the past. She now waits for her worst fears to be confirmed. The photograph of the man to be his sister's husband down loads on his phone. Along side a proud warm smile too loads on Viplav's whole countenance. The was pleases his eyes and Viplav approves.. Dhani is desperate to see it..he obliges as he passes her the phone. It slips out her nervous grip and when she tries again.. the phone's battery dies. So Dhani's misery prolongs as she continues to be in the dark about the identity of the man about to marry shalu.. however , with Viplav around why would and should her past niggle her. He is the ray of hope for the future ,so together he helps her cross off today on the calendar with a sweet reminder that now nineteen days left to her joining him as his wife in his home. It's time for him to leave and as such ,comes his request for some dessert from her in the form of a tasty kiss.. as if he should be so lucky? So why not give her a tease by moving his face towards her lips... with hooded eyes he can see this sour puss is ready the pucker of her lips tell him.. her eyes closed ,her mouth ready.. but nah man.. he is not a despo! Respect! and so he gives her a smooch on her forehead.. picks his phone up and waves tra'.. see you later love.. and Dhani smiles as she watches him slip away from her room..but hang on, he stops, blows her a flying kiss and closes the door.. Dhani smiles all complacent, such a gent he is, respects her space .. knows she's his ,alongside shows discipline towards their present situation..come into my life slowly and gradually my love.. Dhani's heart sings their song, his presence still lingers about her and empowers her when is absent from her side..
Tripurari wonders if Phool Chand is comforting him or causing him more misery by his words? Now Phool Chand has his own issues with DT and thus rakes tripurari's angst against his father even more.. when he comments, it's a pity the way he slogs day in and day out for maha dev.. but he treats him like he is Dashrant tirpathi's illegitimate son! this obviously wounds tirpurari as there is ironic credence in Phool Chand's words. Phool Chand compares tripurari to the empty bottle of liquor that is hurdled from side to side on the ground disposed off.. once the booze has been consumed. He charges up tripurari to get back at his enemy Dashrant too, by telling him he has been used by Dashrant and once finished with him Dashrant has flicked him aside like a fly out of milk Phool Chand s winding works as tripurari picks up the empty bottle and dashes it against the stones, growls fuming as he clutches the sliver penny ,now he will show Dashrant what this bad penny can really do! Phool Chand achieves what he wants, to steal dashrants clout before the people of Banares. Overall this scene is significant in terms of the imagery. The black night that reflects tripurari's despondency. The fire, the anger that Phool Chand arouses in tripurari. The snack they eat ,a poor man's food ..and the booze that two men with a common enemy drink to drown their misery in.
A brother's twofold joy at his sisters marriage! Viplav's heart swells with pride, his sister likes her future husband..what can be better than seeing his one and only sisters mirth at checking out her future husband on Viplav's phone.. then comes Viplav's habit of teasing ! typical older brothers comparison of his looks with the sisters husband to be.. so Viplav is already testing who she considers more handsome her bro or her husband? as a typical brother Viplav would want his sister to chose her husband! as he will happily be the second fiddle to give customary respect to his sister's husband.. loving scene that shows sibling love..kanak comes to collect shalu to go with her sasuma to the mandir..as fate has it , shalu gets to see her husband's face on Viplav's phone , but Dhani doesn't get to see the picture as the battery died
Two widows, dressed in white..a mother and daughter approach Maata's temple for prayer offerings ..dulari needs constant assurance from Dhani that all is well between Viplav and Dhani ,but still is anxious that until dhani is married and settled. Both mother and daughter pray before the goddess in the temple. Dukari leaves for circumambulations around the temple while Dhani prays..before Maata
Car stops outside the temple ,and out comes shalu , Kanak and sasuma. For the house of god is open for all, sinners or not .both sinners and the good. Kanak sasuma, shalu are right behind Dhani , Dhani turns to leave. Sasuma phone rings , its her son raja.. so she turns the other way! But Dhani ends up facing Kanak. Kanak glares at Dhani's face as if she'll scratch her eyes out. But shalu greets her with a smile. Kanak however tells Dhani ever since she went out of her son's life, happiness has returned to their lives.. she tells her shalu's wedding is set with a rich boy ,from a rich household called Raja Awasti! A family from Allahbad! , our household forms alliance with the well to do not with beggars like you,and you watch! I will fix my son too with some rich family! Kanak taunts her, then arrogantly bids her daughter to move to but shalu.. pauses and feels Dhani's shoulder with love.. so goodness still lives shalu's touch ,signifies ,she loves her brother and is aware that her brother loves Dhani a lot.. shalu may well see Dhani as Viplav's fiance.. in some silent manner.. Dhani joins her mother in the courtyard of the temple and tells her shalu's marriage has been fixed with awasti family. Dulari's face clouds up but Dhani tells her they are from Allahbad, not khanpur.. Sausuma too stands in the courtyard talking to her son.. she senses something and as the two widows go down the stairs of the mandir she looks oddly at the two woman in white..
Phool Chand and Dashrant are gathered around the Shiv mandir.. Phool Chand competes for power supremacy between him and Dashrant , aims to snatch from Dashrant the honour of performing lord Shiva's arti on shivraatri..the privilege would be go to that person who manages to provide a Shivling in time.. Phool Chand's supporter bring in a huge shivling.. Dashrant waits for tripurari as he was meant to get the sacred symbol . Phool Chand tells him he won't be coming and its looks like he would be doing the arti..
Yes its now confirmed its her past..thats come before her,muses Dhani back at the ashram making garlands..dulari senses her daughters preoccupation with the name awasti . dulari tells Dhani reassuringly , past has passed.. look ahead now.. to the future
Foot steps hurriedly head for the steps of the shiv mandir .. the figure carries a giant shivling over his shoulders.. laboriously the figure dressed in all black scales the steps as if to reach the winning point to reach the highest award..entry into a rich household to reap the pleasures of another's wealth and power!, he reaches the forecourt of the temple right at the top..
Dulari presses upon Dhani ,because what's happened is very unlikely to repeat again..and Dhani has to tell her mind this! no one else can do this for her ,she will have to convince herself and believe in it that history does not repeat itself.. as it's done and gone..dulari asks Dhani has she mentioned her past to Viplav? Dhani replies she's tried but he doesn't want to talk about it.. but how does she leave her past behind? She asks her mother.. history may not repeat in an incident, connections with the past ,people one may come across. There's her mother assuring her past will not have a bearing on her present and future.. which is unrealistic as who's to know, life is unpredictable .. then theres Viplav who believes Dhani past is unlikely to any difference to him.. what is Dhani meant to do?
The figure carrying the shivling approaches the entrance of the mandir..takes longer strides now.. Dashrant smiles at the figure, here comes one who will help him remain in power! The figure bypasses all and walks straight to the sacred place where the shivling needs to be placed.
Dhani cries out to her mother, as much as she tries, to forget her past it keeps looming up before her! but she hopes that her past never interferes with her future! if her history does comes up who will smash it?
The man places the shivling,firmly on the earmarked spot then kneels before it and prays before it..its Raja Awasti ! dashrant opens his arms wide, as women to stand and watch , chants of har! har maha dev sound! Phool Chand obviously loses his desire to perform aarti..dashrant welcomes his new family member! Shalu's future husband.. Viplav arrives, with an apology , sorry he's late, his car got busted... he is introduced to his BIL whose already scored a point got to the temple in time! Despite carrying such a heavy shivling talk about being a strong strapping lad! Dashrant , goes har har mahadev.. as even here in the temple he is out competing with Phool Chand to maintain his power!
Dhani at home , dabs a tiny bit of sindoor . Comforts, consoles and heals her fears of the her past with being her beloved Viplav's wife.. Raj laxmi barges in Dhani covers her head.. Rajlaxmi wants help in preparing the puja thalli .. Dhani admonishes her she needs to do it herself from now on.. Rajlaxmi teases her friend, she's acting like she's married, ready to leave! Raj laxmi goes whenever she goes ,she'll miss her a lot.. they hug.. Dhani probably muses, she deserves to know but.. for shalu's sake she has to seal her lips..
At AN Viplav brings Dashrant,Raja Awasti home!.. the new members aarti is done by Kanak and shalu peeps at her future husband from the side wings.Dhani prays before her god.. dear god ,please protect me.. only have one request that may my past never comes before me!
Raja Awasti puts his foot inside AN! basically the lad puts his best foot forward and impresses his in laws with his smiles ,charm, good manners and sense of reverence for the women of the house..
