Excellent point Lady LaLa...

The show was started so they could show the harsh treatment of widows in our society, and we have seen so far how the whole city of Banaras treats widows and especially young Dhaani.

Even K T a widow herself by her own evil plan backfiring treats other widows with contempt but expects better treatment for herself.

Maha Pundit from the very beginning has been the "Champion Hypocrite" on this show, but no other Pundits or the general public ever question him or any of his actions.

The Maha Pundit not only treats widows abhorrently but has nothing but loathing for
his son gotten by his coveting a woman outside his marriage for his carnal pleasure.

So expecting this old cunning and greedy Maha Pundit that is after power and money will wield his power to subdue poor and helpless people to adhere to his man made laws but completely ignore it in his own house to suit him.

The issue I have with the CV's is precisely this that they were suppose to bring to light this
double standard concocted by these phoney Pundits to keep the faithful by scaring them with these old and outdated traditions to fill their coffers with their hard earned money so they could live a life of ease without guilt.

Your point is very true that our country was once ruled by a widow and now in this 21st Century it time to stand up to this kind of Religious tyranny and give these Hypocritical Pundits a boot out of their comfortable life, if they do not change their ways in treating everyone with equality and dignity that all humans deserve.

@LadyLaLa

Such a thought provoking post .

My take on this is that - vidhwa dharam - is indeed selective and imposed on different section of women depending upon their social & economic standing.

The likes of Dhani are abhorred as they have been abandoned by their families and do not have the means to support themselves . Did she have education , a roof of her own or a support system she would not be considered a dreg of society .

In contrast Kanak has had the fortune and means of a support system unlike the young Dhani. She has a son who no way will allow her to be condemned. She is strong and will fight if DT ever asked her to leave . And if you get the respect from your own family then no one can raise a finger you for being a vidhwa.

So if Dhani tomorrow comes in good fortune ( which I think will be the case ) she may become more acceptable to the Tripathi family.

Its different rules for different people .
