Lame attempt by a Dumb Writer/Pt 5 uptd, Pg 4 - Page 2

A loud bajan wakes up viplov, it's 5am, he comes down to see everyone already up and engaged in their activities. He asks dhani what are they doing at this hour, dhani reminds him that this is ashram not his palace. They rise early. He asks her to stop the bajan, coz he can't sleep. She tells him that they have the habit of listening bajan in the morning and it won't change for anyone. Irritated viplov goes to the room and tries to sleep, but thanks to the bajan, he is wide awake.

Follows the famous towliya scene, Not going to go in detail. One of the few scene, well written and executed in the show.

Viplov says he is hungry. Dhani gives him boiled potatoes. Viplov stares at the plate and asks what is this. She coolly tells, his breakfast. He says he can't have such bland food, needs something spicy. She gives him two green chillies and a small portion of lime juice and tells him, take it or leave it. Viplov leaves the plate and goes. Dhani looks at viplov and smiles, thinking she will soon send him out, only to see viplov turn at her and give her a knowing smile. He tells her, not to get too happy. He going only to have food and he will be back soon. Dhani gets angry.

Viplov returns, with raj, pankaj and the pest control guys. On Suvarna's enquiry, he tells that he is going to do pest control at the ashram to get rid of all the pests and points at dhani mischievously. Dhani has a question mark on her face. He further explains that the ashram is a mini zoo, with reptiles, cockroaches, bed bugs and mosquitos. So he wants to do pest control to get rid of them and further adds, no one can stay here for 2 days, he has made necessary arrangements in raj' guest house. So he asks everyone to move. Dhani and Dhulari object immediately. Viplov sternly tells dhani that the pesticides fumes are dangerous especially to old people like Chaya kaki, Badi amma and seeta mayi, dhani alone will be responsible if anything happens to them. Both Ma and Beti look scared. Badi amma supports viplov and asks everyone to move. Now viplov flashes a triumph smile at dhani and she sulks.

Two days later, the safed gang return to find a colorful, clean and beautiful ashram. The young brigade, except dhani are happy. The older ones look apprehensive. Dhulari asks why did he paint the ashram, he was only supposed to clean it. Viplov coolly replies, the ashram looked dull and lifeless, so he decided to paint. Dhani angrily asks him, who was he to decide. Did he ask them. He tells her, why should he, after all he did a good thing. She retorts, who is he to decide, what is good for them. Viplov looks surprised, he asks what wrong he did by painting the ashram. Dhulari tells him, they are vidhwas, they have to abide by certain rules, he can't change their lifestyle. She blames Badi amma, tells that she gave a lot of freedom to viplov, which alone has led him to interfere in their life to this extent.She even accuses viplov for having some agenda behind doing this. Badi amma tells viplov, he should not have taken these many liberties.

Viplov looks upset, he asks, where it says that a vidhwa has to lead a lackluster life. They didn't become a vidhwa by choice then why bear the punishment. If all the natural elements like sun, moon, rain, air, water and fire doesn't discrimination between them and others and why should they let the society discriminate them and ill treat them. Moreover they live in a free country with a well defined law and order at its place,where every citizen is free to lead their life as per their choice. Then why are they so scared of the society and leading such a sorry life. He apologies for his actions and leaves. Raju tells irritatedly that neither the safed gang believes in happiness not they will let others to bring in happiness.

Viplov comes down to see the safed gang surrounding someone. Out of concern, he rushes only to see a lady in white and dhani offerering her food and water. Viplov is told that the lady is Tulsi, a vidhwa, Dhulari found her in the temple in a very sorry state and she brought her here.

Tulsi continues with her story, she had a love marriage and her traditional in-laws had to accept her coz of their son. She lost her husband in an accident and her in-laws blamed her bad luck for the tragedy and threw her out of their house. She being an orphan has no where to go and ended up at the ganga ghat.

Viplov thinks, the story is too convenient and tragic and sounds filmy. Dhulari tells tulsi that being a vidhwa, he can empathize with her and she can stay in the ashram with them. Viplov looks surprised. He takes badi amma to a side and tells her, that the lady is a stranger, they cannot validate her story and her identity, so it's not safe to house a stranger in the ashram. Dhani hears their conversation and snubs viplov, she tells him that if they can let him stay then why not tulsi and he can never ever know what it is to be a vidhwa and the difficulties they face. She tells badi amma that it is not fair to abandon tulsi in such a state. Badi agrees and lets tulsi stay. Viplov feels like banging his head against the wall. Raju murmurs that there isn't enough to feed us that they have a additional mouth to feed.

Badi amma asks tulsi to take rest... Everyone get back to their work. Before entering the room tulsi turns and looks at viplov, who was also looking at her all along. Both seem to understand that they need to keep an eye on the other.

Thank you mehraan...@ bold: agree, on one had they show society dissecting each and every action of the vidhwas and on the other hand not a brow was raised when a young man stayed in a vidhwa ashram. Like even today a man cannot stay in a house filled with woman. Society doesn't take it likely and we are talking about a vidhwa ashram in Banaras.

Next morning...

Both come down...the man tells viplov that his neighbor an influential pandit has encroached his land coz of which he is unable to sell his property, he request Viplov to fight his case. Viplov asks the man to submit all the documents...Dhulari eagerly asks the man, how much he can pay...the man says he is a poor farmer and can't pay viplov now, he heard viplov fought the ashram case for free, hence he approached him...dhulari looks stumped...viplov smiles and tells the man that he will fight his case, the man tells viplov that once he is able to sell his land, he would surely pay his fees. Viplov turns and makes a puppy face at dhulari, she looks embarrassed.

Viplov gets a call from dhadhi, so leaves to meet her.

Under the pretext of going to the temple, tulsi goes to meet her girl gang.

Viplov and dhadhi have a sweet conversation, he tells her, except kadoos kaki and her shikhayathi pudiya daughter, everyone likes him and he has no issues in the ashram...dhadhi feeds him ladoos and in turn gets a big bear hug and lots of kisses from viplov. Viplov takes leave.

On his way back, he meets raj and pankaj, who forcefully take him to the bar. Viplov joints them but curtly tells them that he can't consume alcohol coz he is staying in the ashram and if dhani gets to know, she might just eat him alive...raj makes fun of Viplov that he is getting sacred of dhani as though she is his wife...viplov says that she is worst than that, she is shikhayath ki dhukaan, all the three laugh...

Tulsi with her gang, she tells them that as planned she has taken shelter in the ashram and a big mela is coming up in the locality and on the final day of the mela, there is going to be a big event to engage the localities...she says that it would be the right time to steal the murthy..others agree...she asks them to wait for her call. As she and her gang disburse, she sees viplov and his friends at a distance, to her bad luck, viplov also gets a glimpse of her, but before he could reach to her, she and her gang escape.

Viplov is back at the ashram only to find tulsi serving food to all. He looks surprised and confused, she innocently asks him, does he need food, he tell no and retires to his room. That night...Viplov hears voices in the aangan, he comes down to check and notices a shadow talking, but it turns out to be tulsi drinking water. He asks her was she talking to someone. She tells, there is no one around to talk, she felt thirsty so came down to drink water. She leaves a confused viplov, he was sure he heard her talk, but who could it be, then it hits him, that may be she was on the phone...he is getting more confused...he knows something is wrong but is not able to put his hands on it. He decides to talk to badi amma next day.

Next morning, viplov shares his apprehension with badi amma, she asks him, is he sure about it, and he looks confused, she tells him clearly that she can't question tulsi based on his assumption. Tulsi overhears their conversations, she thinks that she has to distract viplov.

She goes to dhani and shows her few beer bottles and tells her that she found it in viplov's room while cleaning. Dhani is shocked. Tulsi adds, that probably viplov was drunk yesterday night and might be the reason he refused to take dinner. Dhani is already fuming.

An angry dhani confronts viplov in his room, she starts screaming at him and says how dare he consumed alcohol and came to the ashram, viplov denies. She asks, was he at the bar with his friends. Viplov tells he did go but he did not drink. Dhani retorts that she is not that nave to believe that he went to the bar but did not drink...she tells him angrily that if he repeats it again she will throw him out of the ashram. Viplov is surprised to see dhani's this avatar but he mischievously engages her in the conversation and corners her against the wall. Dhani doesn't realize. On hitting the wall dhani realizes the awkward place she is in, she tries to move but viplov blocks her way, she looks at him angrily. He goes closer to her and softly tells her that she is right, he was drunk last night and he challenges her to do what she just said...throw him out...dhani gets intimidated. She pushes him and storms out of the room. Viplov laugh out loud...
