IKRS 28th August 2015 Episode 17 My Take

The pace of the two varied settings, and two varied life styles is touched upon in this episode. The rushed urban inner city life and the somewhat lulled dulcet tones of the comparatively low key areas. The metropolis verses the rural..

Episode opens with high pitched blaring music to an equally suggestive number that is clearly geared to the young mixed gathering of the bustling inner city life where young boys and girls come looking for excitement and good fun. There is of course the connotation that these joints are meant to cater to the needs of the rich and most importantly the emancipated, free spirited looking for a good time.. everything from the lightening, to the music ,to the ambiance is to encourage the crowd to be themselves , free from the burdens of custom, practice and general norms of society. The drinks perk up the sense of well being, and injects a desire to experiment to attain pleasure and test one's bravado..

Hence Viplav agrees to swap partners on the dance floor.. with complete strangers.. just for kicks as it were! It's normal in such places in such times! Tania is more into the one man interaction and ends up creating a scene with the imposed partner. The issue here is Viplav accepted and enjoyed his dance with his swapped partner.. handing over , letting go of tania to a total stranger, for a bit of harmless fun mattered not to him. There was no reason to be clingy about Tania.. she was clearly a good friend and not a woman he has romantic sentiments for, despite the fact that she publically declares her love for him! something is amiss here.. Tania perhaps feels how easily he agreed to swapping.. but that is about all.. she gets no warning signs he may not feel the same way as she does!.. is Tania just nave and won't give him up and is heading towards unrequited love? Viplav although steps in to protect her or to sort the problem she has .. he treats her declaration of love flippantly and teases her of acting prudish despite her modernity! Tania seems to hold her values , but Viplav clearly feels that finding a girl with traditional values in the modernity of inner city life is a tall order.. is he being too stereotypical in his mindset?

As opposed to the modcon Tania we get the dressed in white sari sleeping alone in her humble widows shelter. Dhani .she wakes up from her nightly rest and embraces the new day but with a pending task! the salvage of the shelter! Where Tania a city slicker has a small problem of how to harness Viplav.. Dhani in her low key surroundings faces the humongous problem of securing the shelter which is a collective issue!

Where ever virtue ventures to realize.. vice is not far behind.. they reside side by side on Shiva's trident trishul! Hence where Dhani is the evil shadow hovers around her and her shelter.. his notes are highly strung as he confides in Tripurari that the widows plan to challenge his court order of eviction.. Tripurari is asked to be his watchdog again , spying on what actions the widows take? and with whom? to defy him! Kanak overhears and is wary..she is denied the right to access of what is brewing up in Dashrant's life.. but he reminds her gently that a woman role is within the household.. the key men of the house are the problem solvers and decision makers.. but for Kanak.. it's a power struggle too. she wants to know.. she might be anxious about her FIL's interest in Dhani too.. Tripurari spots her anxiety and finds a way to fleece her.. he knows she'll do anything to be in the know how.. after all she is the second mistress of the household..

Sellers and buyers

Two devious people before the house of god.. one wanting knowledge and the other testing out the price she is willing to pay for it.. Tripurari is shrewd , he knows that he is in a position to sell, and both also know that nothing comes cheap either! kanak will pay any price.. she knows money can buy anything! what gets me is the sight of the gold bangles.. which to me stand as the symbol of a vicious circle that goes around between both good and evil in the name of religious devotion shown in the form of a precious metal.. offered to a god.. kanak got the gold karas off Dashrant .. now she's circulating the same karas as a price for getting out information about Dashrant's dealings.. and this time the deal is done outwardly on the grounds of charity to the poor!! brazenly it's devotees faith sentiments that are revolved around to fulfil own motives

The brave Dhani.. makes use of simple communication services to get on with her pending job.. she manages to get in touch with the lawyer.. wakes him up from his slumber, almost reminding him that the new day has dawned!!! She has always in some way agitated ,stirred, and opened his eyes literally.. but then decent communication between them was a bit interrupted historically too.. this time too he wanted to hear her but the communication was crackling.. in fact what irony.. last time he spoke, she managed to miss all his final apologies at the doorstep scene.. here she was desperate to listen out for him, but he was not fully awake.. eventually more angst for her to reach him.. once awake and in conversation, he gives her legal jargon of what he requires to begin the job.. she perseveres and is not embarrassed by her limited knowledge, in fact she senses the lawyer is aware of the fact that she is illiterate and speaks in a slow explanatory manner.. he is patient in his manner ,at least on the phone!..rattles off in English first in a business- like manner, but then changes back to the language the girl understands.. slowly explains what he needs, allows her time to slowly take notes in a list making tone!!! all in all excellent client manner @ viptri!! . mind you when he stands up for clearer reception.. and she says the word Benaras he bumps against the table.. was this an ill omen? related to his return to banaras for the second time? mind you the dope got the name of this voice wrong.. called her vidhi..

Two words stayed in my mind.. " settlement and eviction.."

Raj's return! ominous ..so Viplav can clarify that there's nothing between him and Tania!.. beautiful ending.. both seem to have known the voice at the other end.. sounded familiar..

Overall a delightful episode.. the telephonic contact has to be the highlight.. personally I think Viplav's people management is fairly good.. his first client he dealt with very well.. as he was able to give her the assurance of both his acceptance of the case and his arrival too..

wow dear ..what an analysis ..
every episode with your spects looks different ..

taniya is definitely getting do many wake up calls that he isn't serious about her..he and vipu share same quality ,they both think that they can achieve whatever tjru want in their life..So she is hell bent trying to prove that she is also adamant ..
vipu has stereotyped thinking ..he wants untouched girl..he has typical thought process towards taniya..may be he is thinking that of taniya can flirt with a boy before marriage ..then definitely ,he isn't first person in her life which he already stated to his friends ..

he is going to be very intelligent lawyer..he takes his work seriously ..I just loved the way he was specifying all things to dhani..despite muttering he Bhagwan.. he doesn't stop himself to clear all things to her..it shows that he understands each and everyone.. doesn't irk on people who are illiterates..

Your analysis are amazing Hamie. I loved the episode, but your analysis made me love it more.
Yes Viplav is shown as a typical guy..but I am happy that cvs didn't show Tania as a typical modern girl. I respected her for what she did. But I am sad for her , that she is ignoring a very clear truth which is that Viplav doesn't love her. Maybe because he pampers her, and makes her feel good, she isn't aware of his true feelings. Shame on Viplav for using Tania. Living at her house, encouraging her to love him and dream of marriage, when he doesn't love her or want to marry her.

Kanak and Trip are a super villain couple. I can imagine how will they turn Dhani's life into a hell.

Dhani is a very naive girl ..her phone calls with Viplav were the best scenes. They showed how they live in different worlds. Their love will be uniqe. In fact I used to watch old Indian movies. And I am a huge fan of movies of early 90s. One of them was Qurbaan starring: Salman Khan and Aisha Julka. ViDha reminde me of this movie, coz Salman was an urban guy. Aisha was a village girl.

You seem to be in full form today. Very nice contrasts between the urban and rural ethos. The best part was about the bangles symbolizing the vicious cycle of manipulation and exploitation of the masses that passes off as religion.

As awida says, the episode was all the more enjoyable after reading your take.

The word Benaras caused Vip to trip. It is certainly prophetic that during this "trip," Vip will have to face some stumbling blocks --first there is Tanya, who is thinking that this trip is all about cementing her relationship with Vip by cozying up with his family. This is something that Vip will have confront, much to his chagrin. Then there is the small matter of the return of the widow in his life, and all that it symbolizes, and finally, Vip will have a face-off with Dashrath when he will fight against his own grandfather to safeguard the widows from being evicted from the ashram.

yes.. i think ..because he is her dad's intern.. this might be favorable for her.. but you are right she has got blinkers on.. depends how vipu handles her..may be he should tell her ..he's not ready for marriage.. easy option..šŸ˜›

expressed very well.. i too felt he shouldn't lead her astray.. tell her he's not interested in her the way she is.. that she is a dear friend.. but will wait when he tells her.. it will show up his mind set too.. is he just using her as a career development opportunity

i like the shortened name.. trip.. šŸ˜› i fumble on tripurari's name often!
