Chatth Pooja

Hi all

I am using this space to bring to your notice the Chhatth Pooja festival which took place last week

As a very localised festival it is celebrated as biggest festival in Bihar Jharkhand and parts of East Uttar Pradesh.

The festival is considered to be one of the toughest festivals which requires huge amount of abstainment.

Unfortunately not much can be found about this festival in religious texts but from whatever I could gather I will like to share about it's origins..

No not like Karwa Chauth. Karwa chauth is for husband, Chhatt Pooja is the worship of God not for husband/any specific relation. Also it can be done by either gender.

Aside Karwa Chauth is only 1 day festival, Chatt Pooja goes for 4 days and requires 36 hours of fast without water.
