Life Span was definitely more, But we have true facts and proofs that People got married quite earlier that time! Child marriages are much common those days, even in Kalyug before 50 years from today people got married when they are mere children...only just few years back the rule of 21-18 has been made. SO it dosent makes sense to me that 25 years was considered as the appropraite age for marriage in treta Yug! 😕!

Love your discussions! We will never know whether 25 was the correct age of marriage for men back in treta yug, because customs have changed so often, but it's true that when we talk about child marriage (girls being married at 9-12 years old) is a practice which originated in KALI YUG. There is no reference in any of our scriptures or puranas of child marriages, because it originated during the Mughal history of India to protect women from being abducted and married against their will to the Mughals. The Mughal Kings did not abduct married women, so families got their girls married off as early as 6 to protect her from being taken as a King's concubine. From there the practice of child marriage originated and people mistakenly believe that it's been in our culture.

If one looks at our scriptures, women were married during the mid-late teens, whether it be Sita, Rukmini, Devi Parvati, etc. Child marriage was non-existent during treta or dwapar yugas, because it's not a practice written about in the Manusmriti or our Vedas or Upanishads.

So I cannot believe any version that says Sita was married at 6 or 9. The people who wrote such a thing might have been influenced by the customs of their time.
