New 'Ramayan' on TV simplified, technology-backed

The magic of mythological epic "Ramayan" is set to be recreated on Zee TV, and the new version promises to be a state-of-art affair with latest technology and simplified dialogues to create a youth connect.

The magic of mythological epic "Ramayan" is set to be recreated on Zee TV, and the new version promises to be a state-of-art affair with latest technology and simplified dialogues to create a youth connect.

"Our 'Ramayan' is based on Ramcharitmanas, which is rich in core values, ideals and principles that form the crux of our society and are the core of our upbringing," Ajay Bhalwankar, head-content, Hindi GECs at Zee, told IANS.

Bhalwankar maintains the story will remain the same. But viewers will be treated to a new presentation.

"There no change in the story, but the presentation is different. If we try to tell the story in a different way, we would fail as the core of Ramayan cannot be changed," he said.

"(However), there is a sea of change in the use of technology and graphics. The scale is going to be really huge and state-of-the-art this time. We have shot in HD," he added, without revealing the show's budget.

The show is being produced by Moti Sagar of Sagar Arts.

The original, 1980s' small-screen version of "Ramayan" was produced and directed by Moti's fatherRamanand Sagar. It was a hit, and still remains etched in many minds.

Another version of it was created for Imagine TV with actor Gurmeet Choudhary playing Ram, in 2008. That was produced by Sagar Arts too.

Asked how different would the third version be, Ramanand's granddaughter Meenakshi Sagar told IANS: "The language has been simplified so that today's generation is able to understand it and learn from it."

"The story will be similar to what my grandfather Ramanand Sagarji had shown. Nothing new can be included in the story, but the presentation will definitely be different. The technology is much better today and we have worked on lot on detailings of the characters," she added.

Actor Rishabh Shukla has been roped in for the role of King Dashratha, Shikha Swaroop of "Chandrakanta" fame will portray Kaikeyee and Neil Bhatt of "12/24 Karol Bagh" fame will be seen in Lakshman's role.

The identity of other characters, including protagonists Ram and Sita have been kept under wraps for now. The show will go on air Aug 12.

"We have spent a lot of time deciding on the casting of the show. We were never looking for larger than life personalities. I won't say they are new faces, but they are good actors," said Bhalwankar, adding that there's a special reason behind concealing the identity of Ram and Sita.

"When Doordarshan's 'Ramayan' came, media was not very active at that time. So, when people saw Arun Govil, they saw him as Ram and not Arun Govil. His real identity came out quite later," he said.

"We are not revealing the names because we want people to see them as Ram and Sita, not as actors XYZ," he added.

Bhalwankar doesn't fear comparisons with earlier versions of "Ramayan".

"There will be more comparisons with the earlier 'Ramayan' than comparisons with Imagine's 'Ramayan'. We don't fear it because their (Imagine's) grammar and framework was different. It was more of a family drama and our approach is different," he added.

Don't worry yaar, who cares what they call Imagine's Ramayan? It is so clear that Sagar Arts and Sagar Pictures can't stand each other. This Ramayan will be pictures' way of competing with Arts, and we'll see how well received their so-called Ramayan will be when so many Gurmeetians do not plan to watch it. GC has a large fan following, and when most of it plans to boycott this new Ramayan because they're angry with such a hasty decision, it cannot do well.
Anyway, I like Imagine's Ramayan but I really dislike the Sagars in general. Even Anand Sagar insulted Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan when he was promoting his Ramayan, remember? He claimed that since his Ram was more muscular and his Sita curvier, his Ramayan is bound to attract new viewers. I respect Ramayan because of Gurmina and the other actors, but I don't respect Anand Sagar at all, or any of the new generation Sagars. Let them make as many Ramayans as they want. Only the ones blessed by God will become a success.
Even if Zee's Ramayan becomes a hit, I don't care. There's only so many Ramayans one can follow. I'm satisfied with RSR and ASR so I don't plan to follow the new Ramayan, or any other Ramayan made by any other mytho director for that matter, whether they be Sagars or not.

^ Exactly, Even I m not a Bit interested in this ramayan weather it will be good or not...I have Nothing to Do with Anand Sagar and His Thoughts but the NDTV Series is Really Awesome and is very Close to my Heart !!
And the Way Pictures called it a Family Drama has just Discouraged me more to Watch this new ramayan 😒 !!
Well I have Seen the New Promo on Zee in which They have Shown the Hanumaan of the Series and trust me the Character playing Hanumaan is Not catching the gracefulness of Lord hanumaan a Bit !! Dara Singh was Great and Vikram Sharma was also Good...But I m really Doubtfull abt this New hanumaan !!
I will Post the Promo Link here If I find it Somewhere, U then urself c and give ur Opinion regarding it !!

Technically the Ayodhya portions of the epic consist of what is essentially 'family drama' though I think here he meant it in a negative way which is sad.

@Varnita, Yes I agree with you. When it comes to directors the ONLY director I truly respect is Ramanand Sagar, but that won't prevent me from liking the mytho shows of other directors. I loved Ramayan because of the hard work Gurmina and the other actors put in, and like you said it's close to my heart because of them, regardless of the director.
The promo could be in Zee Tv's youtube channel, I'll try to search for it. But I loved Dara Singh a looot and also loved Vikram Sharma very close if not equally. They both were excellent choices for the role so someone equally excellent must be casted as Hanuman or else they won't be able to keep my interest.
@Kal El, Yes it's true that Ayodhya Kand in general is a family drama type, but I doubt he meant that as every Ramayan would have family drama then, lol.

I agree the Ayodhya Episodes are Quite like the Family Drama Including all Mithila Episodes where Sita's Friends use to TEase her...I always get Annoyed whenever I use to see them as they COmpletely Lack the DIvnity of being the Episodes of Ramayan 😆 !!
But When It comes to Main Story ..Sita Haran...Sundar kand..etc etc and Specially the Uttar kand, The Series Contain COmplete Divnity and Spritualism as needed by any Mytho Show !!

Yes, the Bal Kand and Ayodhya Kand episodes usually are light and family-oriented, with all those giggly sisters and friends in Mithila, the teasing of ladies after the wedding, etc, but then those scenes do not definte Ramayan. Ayodhya Kand, more than being spiritual-oriented, is supposed to teach people how an ideal family should be like, how they should not let outsiders break their relations, etc. And yeah ASR added more family drama than necessary in some parts, but I highly highly doubt this new Ramayan will not. All new mythos have family drama and in general, more melodrama than necessary. I don't buy this article's claim that they'll make this Ramayan more spiritual. Please.

New promos of Ramayan:

The sets look VERY similar to AS Ramayan. I'm like 99% certain that this Ramayan is being filmed in Baroda at Sagar film city. So far I dont' see what's different from Imagine's Ramayan, the promos look similar too, just with different actors.😳

Some comments on that article were funny and am finding similar one here. Not accept anyone other than Gurmeet-Debina as Lord Ram-Sita? Really? Gurmeet Debina dont own the the roles. They played the characters of Lord Ram-Sita just as others have enough right to if they do justice. To me, the bestest were Arun ji and Deepika ji and no1 beats them by miles but just bcoz of that I wont say I have accepted them as Ram-Sita. How dumb is that comment.
Anyways, looking forward to this one. Hope its better than the NDTV one.
