The first 8 have always been described as his principle wives, and their status was never equal to that of the other 16,100. Something like Dasharath's 350 wives vs KSK. Yeah, they were still his wives, but that didn't make them queens. Although I'm sure Pradhyumna, Samba et al all regarded them as their mothers.
As an aside, I wonder how the term 'Rani' or 'Patrani' would apply to any of them, given that Krishan was never a Raja. 😕 I know what they mean, but it's technically inaccurate.

Dashrath had 350 wives?! I never heard of this.😲
I guess the same source that refers to Krishna as Dwarikadheesh refers to his eight wives as his queens, since otherwise, Ugrasen's wife would be the queen.
Btw, did Balram ever marry someone other than Rohini?

I checked many websites online, and all of them describe Dashrath as having only three wives, not 350. If he had more, why wouldn't he distribute the divine payas to all of them?

We discussed it once in the Ramayan forum, under either the Discussions thread, or the doubts & discussions thread. It's mentioned in Valmiki's Ayodhya-kand - I don't have the chapter & verse handy and would have to dig it up, but it's there - Dasharath's 350 wives, who gathered by him when Rama was going to see him b4 his exile. Check out valmikiramayan.net.

The payas was distributed under the rules of the putra-kameshthi yagna. Only KSK received it, by virtue of being the chief queens.

I wonder what makes someone a queen or chief-queen.😕 Maybe the royal princesses a King married became his chief queens, and the commoner women his wives without title?
I wonder why the texts always refer to Ram as having only three mothers then, wouldn't all 350 be his mothers?

Srimadbhagwad Maha puran and Mahabharat clearly mentions the eight wives as Patrani and rest as Rani

Infact there is a chapter dedicated to Draupadi- Krishna -Patni samvad that is conversation

In this chapter each wife starts speaking and the dialogue starts with an introduction to her as a Rani and Patrani. Ofcourse on behalf of 16100 queens only one wife Rohini ji speaks

Is there any relation between Rohini and Urmila? Like...did Sheshnaag have any divine wife who was born as Urmila and then Rohini, or were they both also expansions of Lakshmi?

Not Rohini , her name was Revati

I have read somewhere that sheshnag's wife's name was Devi nagmani who was born as Urmila and Ravati but I am not sure of the source

I dont know how that is possible though because Revati was born in Satyug and Urmila was born in Treta while Revati was alive and traveling from Bramhalok
