Here's an older interview of Deepikaji where she also talks about new mythological soaps.

Deepika Chikhalia Once, she was Sita, adored by millions of Indians who watched India's first mythological television serial, Ramayana. That ran for a year from 1987. Today, the 'original' Sita's life centres around her two daughters, 11 and 6 and husband Hemant Topiwala's Shingar bindi and Tips and Toes cosmetics business in Mumbai. "I take care of R&D and marketing and am in office between 11 and 4 pm." This allows her to be home when the children return from school. As of now, Deepika has no plans for a comeback. "There are lots of offers, some of them weird. It's difficult to leave home after 4 pm right now. But I may ' after four to five years," she says. Perhaps another mythological serial? Yes, perhaps, agrees Deepika, but she says that the newer soaps don't have recall value. "When we did Ramayana, Arun Govil 'looked' 'Ram'; I 'looked' Sita. I did not use make-up in the vanvas episodes. There will be no better Hanuman than Dara Singh in a 100 years." Do people still prostrate before the woman they deified for playing Hinduism's arguably most revered woman? "Not the newer generation, but some elderly women still try to touch my feet." Today, few remember her political role as the BJP MP from Vadodara in the 90s. It is her "divine" role-play that's etched in public memory.

Well, I can't really say that I disagree with Arun Govil. I mean, the newer mythological shows have taken quite a bit of creative license, not that that's bad, and have somewhat strayed from what those mytho stories were initially about.

And as for Deepika's comment, I just can't concur with that. You can't measure a person's spirituality by their age. There are old people who know zilch about their religion, and young people who know a lot. So it's not as if the new generation is less reverent towards the Sanatana Dharma. If people don't touch her feet, that does not mean that they don't revere Sitaji.

And on a side note, I don't think we can say for sure who looked more like Ramji and Devi Sita. That's a matter of opinion. Those that watched RSR first will of course think of Arun and Deepika when they hear Ram and Sita, and those that watched ASR will think of Gurmeet and Debina.

I mean, the newer mythological shows have taken quite a bit of creative license, not that that's bad, and have somewhat strayed from what those mytho stories were initially about. Yes, exactly. Arun Govil's answer was actually quite mature, but the only area I disagree is that there is "no direction" in new mythological shows. I don't really like his word choice there because he can't categorize all shows into one. Some shows like Jai Jai Jai Bajrangabali have zero direction and are 80% fiction, but some shows like Imagine's Ramayan and Life OK's Devon Ke Dev Mahadev have more fact than fiction, although some fiction is definitely there. The only thing I did not like about his answer was that he seemed too critical of all new mythological shows without watching them. Some are good, some are not, but each should be analyzed independently in my opinion.😊

And as for Deepika's comment, I just can't concur with that. You can't measure a person's spirituality by their age. That's what I was also thinking. I have met a lot of young people who know about religion and lot of older people who don't. The new generation isn't all irreverant. There are some really religious youngsters out there. There are old people who know zilch about their religion, and young people who know a lot. So it's not as if the new generation is less reverent towards the Sanatana Dharma. If people don't touch her feet, that does not mean that they don't revere Sitaji. This concept of touching an actor's feet makes me cringe to be honest. No matter how well they played a divine role, they are not God and one thing I am proud about the new generation is that it does not literally worship actors of mythological shows. It recognizes them as people who played divine roles, and sadly many of the older generation blurred the line between reel and real to such an extent that they did aarti to their TV sets and began touching the feet of actors when they saw them on the streets.

Yes, that's another thing I did not like about her interview. It was a bit disappointing to see her write that she "looked" Sita. None of us know how the Gods looked and the best we can say is that a particular actor did justice to the role, but we have no right to say someone "looked" Ram or someone "looked" Sita, whether we are an actor or the audience. A level of respect for the actual Gods should be maintained by everyone.

Regarding the views expressed in the articles, I completely agree with Aishu. Yes, today's mytho directors abide by the greed for TRPs more than any of the source material. I haven't seen even one new mytho exempt from at least one example of this, much as I still enjoy watching some of them. And no, spirituality and age don't go hand in hand - the mythos themselves have plent of examples of that. However, I do not for one second believe that second article is genuine. Like that other phony article that talks about her "favorite foods" and uses a picture of Laloo Prasaf Yadav's daughter's picture in place of her 😆, this also is not her photo. Moreover, the junior Sagars actually had her in attendance at one of the 2008 Ramayan's launch events and she sounded plenty supportive then. Our long-lost member Sita11 posted a video of this in our first RSR fan club and I remember it vividly. With such solid evidence I have every reason to believe that the contents of the second article are fabricated, just as fans of the new mythos who easily dismiss articles that attribute controversial statements to their favorite article as media-made exaggeration.

If Deepika's aticle is fake, then no one will be happier than I because I don't like to think of any of my favorite actors as being proud.😊 Do you happen to know where that video is that Sita11 posted? I would love ti see it.

PS - please refrain from making further posts in this thread while I move it's contents to the cast thread; we can continue or discussion there.

No character certificate needed for Lord Ram: Arun Govil

The recent controversy that sparked off following lawyer Ram Jethmalani's comment on Lord Ram may have died down (His comment: Ram was a bad husband. I don't like him at all. Just because some fisherman said something, he sent that poor woman (Sita) to vanvaas).

But actor Arun Govil — original on-screen Lord Ram — still feels strongly about it. The actor spoke to TOI and said that the comment was in bad taste.

Says Arun, "Making positive comments is out of fashion now. Lord Ram wasn't a normal human being, so he can't be compared with anyone. Also, being a king, the interest of his subjects was above his own family. He abandoned his wife to avoid any confusion and misconception among his subjects."

He adds, "We don't need a character certificate for Lord Ram from Jethmalani. It wouldn't have made any difference if he had not made such a comment."

Lola di!! yuppp I agree wth what u said ...some ppl fabricate articles just to create controversy I remember that some one spread a rumor that Arun Govil compares mythos with saas bahu melodramas..but on the other hand, we find an article where he is actually upset with sas bahu shows where women are characterized so badly...there was not a word related to mythology in that then also ppl spread such rumors just to create controversy, which is quite sad! sorry for posting but I cudn't resist myself so m giving a comment with the article only!😆

Thanks for sharing the new article, Gunu! I really appreciate Arunji for such a noble comment on my Lord Ram.👏 I can never condone anyone speaking bad about Ramji because although he is the father of the whole world, I feel very protective of him as if I were his mom.😳😆 I know it sounds so strange, but I hate it when people speak bad about Lord Ram and Lord Krishna.😭 Some people are just so ignorant and think they know everything about the scriptures. They read the epics on a surface level and make horrible comments on Ramji abandoning his wife or Krishna "having many relationships" with the Gopis during Maharaas.🤢
I'm so happy Arunji spoke out about this! He has proved himself to be a true Ram devotee.
