Eric Martin excited to perform in Shillong
Shillong Times
By Our Reporter

Shillong: Eric Martin, the voice of Mr Big, said that he was excited to play his first-ever concert in India at the 'rock capital', Shillong.
Speaking to a group of reporters through a telephonic conversation as soon as he landed in Mumbai on Tuesday, Eric said that he had wanted to come to Shillong after hearing so much from the members of the Fire House about the craze and love for rock music by the people from this hill station and its surrounding areas.
"Though Shillong for me is no longer a strange place as I have heard about this beautiful place several times during my high school days," Mr Eric said.
He is confident that it would be a great experience to be performing to such lovely crowd.
He hoped that the Shillong concert would open the gates for him to perform in future concerts in other parts of the country.
When asked how much crowds he expects in the concert at Shillong, Eric replies for him numbers does not matter whether it a crowd of 50,000 or 500 because what he enjoys the most is to play to a crowd that love and praise his music.
When asked what does he feel to be singing with Amit Paul, Eric said that he feels honoured to get an opportunity to perform with the upcoming singing sensation who has rock the country with his impressive performance at the recent Indian Idol contest.
Commenting on his sharing the platform with Snowhite vocalist, Timmy Kharhujon, Eric said that Timmy has a great voice and it would be great experience to perform a duet with the "local hero".
He added that he would perform anything that is requested by the crowd during the concert.
Eric Martin, along with his band members, is expected to arrive in Shillong on Thursday evening.

Mr Big sizzles at ''Festival of Rock: Shillong''

Shillong, Oct 28: Eric Martin, lead vocalist of international rock band 'Mr Big', set the stage on fire here, as he played his greatest hit ''To Be With you'' for the first time in India in an exclusive concert- ''Festival of Rock: Shillong''.

Thousands of his fans from across the North Eastern states flocked the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium yesterday to soak themselves in the spell of soft love ballads.

Bollywood star Priety Zinta, who was here for the shooting of her next movie 'Har Pal', also made a special appearance at the concert. ''I am enjoying the concert in this beautiful place,'' Ms Zinta said.

The atmosphere was charged up with the first stroke on the guitar and the audiences burst into thunderous clamour as Eric Martin and his Argentinean band members- Charlie Giardine (bass guitar), Christian Vida (guitar) and Pablo Garrochi (drum sets), took the stage.

'Indian Idol-3' finalist Amit Paul, Mizoram-based rock band and winners of the great Indian rock 2006 ''Magdalene'', alongwith Meghalaya's leading band ''Snowhite'' kicked-off the concert, which lasted for more than four hours.

''Snowhite'' lead vocalist Timmy Kharhujon and local singing sensation Amit Paul also performed a duet with Eric Martin's numbers - 'Wild World,' and 'To Be With You'.

Earlier, Eric Martin thanked the music lovers for keeping his dream alive and said, ''I didn't expect that people out here love music and I am glad to have set foot in this picturesque hill state''.

Martin also belted out for the first time his new original number ''You Are Too Good For Him'' from his album ''Destroy All Monsters''.

The city, known for its passion for western music, has emerged as a 'hot' destination for international music bands with recent performances by 'Petra', 'Fire House', 'Michael Learns To Rock' (MLTR), Paul Di Ano, the lead vocalist of iron maiden.

Sepultura, a Brazilian-based heavy rock metal international band is also to set to serenade music lovers on October 31 here after the performance in New Delhi on October 28. They would be performing in Bangalore on November 3.
