Indian Idol--Popularity Contest?

What do you think? Is Indian Idol just another one of those popularity contests? You know, the ones where the good-looking people are voted for, and are considered good?

I personally enjoy hearing Smita sing.. but *spoiler--highlight the following text in order to read it* Since she was in the bottom four, I think that people only vote for.. well.. better-looking contestants, and don't vote for her because of her looks. They don't concentrate on her singing, and her singing is wonderful. No offense to Smita, but I had to say this in order to prove my point about how unfair pepole can be sometimes... this is a singing contest, not a beauty contest!

Besides having Singing talent, YOU NEED to be presentable, you need to have a good personality, you need to be appealing and you need to have the viewers CONNECT to you.

Smita fails in everything. All she has is her singing, which isnt even THAT good. Im sure she wont go very far.

And im pretty sure she is lying about her age, NO WAY is she 24!! She is at least 32. She looks like Aishwarya Rai's mother and Aishwarya is 34 now 😆 😆

well to look good you simple need to be a good human being and have love for other people, no matter how ugly god created one, I have seen people with beautiful hearts and once they smile , they look so lovley.

So its not her looks, I think its what is in her head, she has to change it thats all.

Infact,if she changes whats in her head, she is not an ugly girl, she needs to smile.

👏 👏 ... very good point ... she seems to be having a low self-esteem and i think Anu in the auditions pointed it out so blankly 😡 that it's playing on her mind .. Her fight right now is in her mind ...

How can we even say that when Aditi Paul came in top5. Amit Sana was in top 2, Hemachandra was in top3 and so on.

If one sings exceptionally well then people don't care about the looks. Smita has a beautiful voice but none of her performances were exceptional. She wan't in bottom 4 after 2nd piano and she still had the same face. I simply dislike when contestants (good, average or bad) plays sympathy card.🤢

i agree with this much said by shawn...i guess u cud say it's a bit of a popularity contest....what we r looking for is an indian idol - the whole deal not just a playback singer (like i have said at various places)...and indian idol needs personality, charm, style, presentable looks and singing!!! not just one thing...she has singing going for her and she works a bit on her personality...i think she has a very good shot at it!

and i agree with what harshmm says too....she needs to improve her self-esteem cuz it shows that she doesn't have much confidence in herself....it's not all about looks....

indian idol needs a better singer and personality too and i am feeling bad for her.

I understand what u guys r saying abt the overall look ... But how can u work on something that u don't know how to do it ??? If she knew how to become more appealing she would have done it before !!!! What she needs is some professional help .... I am 100% sure once she reaches the Gala rounds, u will see a totally different Smita, because she will get the required help in that area ... Remember Sandeep in II-2 ... he was totally transformed as he moved on to the Gala rounds ....

I feel deficiencies in singing is harder to work on and takes a lot more time ... deficiencies in personality is not that hard .... eg. Suhit's strength is his personality and image, but his singing is so weak that it cannot be overcome in couple of weeks time ... he needs a long time to overcome those problems ...

i agree with what u are saying...but she cud try to be a little more cheerful...her morale is always down...even after she sings superbly... what my mom says "shakal bani rehndi aa" ...and she kept crying in the whole show yesterday...that didn't help either...u sang bad, then u should try to work harder at singing better instead of throwing a pity party...i think this kind of personality is what is gonna bring her down...also, i dun think her not being appealing to look at will make that big a difference...obviously it will matter but i think it's the low-confidence. low self-esteem personality that is hurting her more, if u kno what i mean!

also, i think the base personality can never be changed...it can be hidden but not changed....singing can be changed much easier...u can work at it!!! That's my opinion
