''Music is its own recommendation,'' says Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar.

''Some people, while trying to move up the ladder of success, forget their roots. But, this is not the case with Meenal,'' he said at the launch of the debut album of Indian Idol 2 finalist Meenal Jain ''Mehram''.

''Meenal is articulate and communicative. These kids need no recommendation,'' he complimented. Meenal Jain's debut album ''Mehram'', released by Times Music, is an attempt to present Sufi Music with a global appeal. Composed and mixed aesthetically by Harpreet Singh and rendered by Meenal. The album showcases a blend of traditional and contemporary Sufi music scripted by R S Sangha along with excerpts from works of mystic poets like Baba Bulle Shah, Meera, Kabir and others. Speaking on the occasion, Meenal said, ''I am happy that so many people have come to support me and Harpreet has taken my voice seriously.'' Meenal has not only sung for Ram Gopal Varma's film ''Go'' but also for its Tamil and Telugu versions. She has recently performed at The Royal Albert Hall in London with celebrated singers like Sonu Nigam, Abida Parveen and Furzon.
