Saifai fest ends amid lathicharge

POLICE HAD to resort to cane charge on the concluding day of the Saifai Mahotsav at Saifai when scores of people attempted to get close to their favourite Bollywood stars in a mad rush on Sunday.

Several mediapersons, including cameramen, had to face the wrath of the police as also a Samajwadi Party (SP) leader, who misbehaved with them.

Trouble began when stars like Fardeen Khan, Celina Jaitley, tele star Tanya of Saas bhi kabhi bahu thi fame, singer Abhijeet Sawant, Alisha Chinoy etc arrived at the Mahotsav venue. As a crowd of people surged forward, the cops, after first warning, resorted to a lathicharge. This led to a stampede-like situation.

There were, however, no reports of injury to anyone.

So was the craze for Bollywood stars, people had started gathering at the venue from Sunday afternoon itself.

Away from all this, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav seemed to be having a real good time. He had 'chaat' and chatted with the stars as he went around the Mahotsav venue. When people gathered around him, he remarked, "Jao enjoy karo aur hame bhi enjoy karne do!"
