Aishwarya and Ujjaini win the Ek Main Aur Ek Tu contest. Losing contestant Sharib's mother faints on hearing the news

Aishwarya and Ujjaini were crowned Jodi No 1 at the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Ek Main Aur Ek Tu grand finale held at the Airport Expo indoor stadium in Dubai on June 23. The winners defeated their opponents, Sharib and Banjyotsana. Both contesting couples fought tooth and nail as nearly 8,000 spectators looked on. Aishwarya and Ujjaini won by a margin of 10,000 votes.

The excitement and suspense became palpable as judges Bipasha Basu, Madhur Bhandarkar and music composer Shamir Tandon gathered at the venue along with the show's resident judges, Hariharan and Leslie Lewis, and anchors Rohit Roy and Ishita Arun.

"When Bipasha announced our names I couldn't believe it! I was eliminated in the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge contest. However, when I came back on Ek Main Aur Eu Tu, I was determined to win. Fortunately, I found a like-minded partner in Ujjaini. Our compatibility goes beyond the professional level. In fact, both of us will visit my hometown Muzaffarpur, in Bihar, next week and then visit her home in Kolkata. We intend to create a lot of music together," says Aishwarya.

Ujjaini echoes her partner's sentiments. "After so many weeks of togetherness, Aishwarya has become my closest friend," she says.

It has become evident that what brought both couples to the finishing line is their real-life compatibility, which emerged in due course. "From sharing food to resting their tired heads on each other's shoulders, they are completely linked to each other," says producer-director Gajendra Singh, talking about the young couple.

Sharib and Banjyotsna don't appear too disappointed at missing the title. Sharib says, "Banjyotsna is from Assam. I'm from Rajasthan. Music brought us together. Our friendship goes beyond this show. My biggest victory is the friendship that Banjo and I've formed. Although we were nervous about the finale, we did our best. And for us, that's enough."

However, Sharib's parents were shocked and disappointed, so much so that his mother fainted on hearing the news.
