• How easy or difficult was winning the talent hunt?
• From Bikaner to the national platform, how has the journey been so far?
I had started my singing career 10 years back. I had never dreamt though that I'd earn so much love and respect from people across the nation in such a short time. I feel great thinking that I've made Rajasthanis proud.
• There were many who thought Karunya would emerge the winner…
Karunya is talented and it's obvious for a part of the audience to expect him to win. He's also very sporting. He needed no consolation on losing — smiling like always, he took it in his stride. We've become close buddies now and today when he calls up saying 'Sandeep, you are doing well', I feel so special.
• All talent hunts are attaching a world of importance to good looks. Why do you think grooming is gaining importance by the day?
The first look does make an impression. I feel, we are all performing artistes, where a presentable look has good value. The audience of today is looking for not just a singer but also a complete entertainment package. Grooming makes you confident too.
• Are you planning to shift base?
Yes, you've heard it right. I'll soon be shifting to Mumbai.
• Are there too many offers in the kitty?
Talks are on. Both Anu Malik and Sandeep Chowta have asked me to sing for their next.
• Do you think you'll be able to sustain in Bollywood?
I'm not scared of competition. There are many good singers and there's a lot to learn. I'm ready to take on the challenge.
• Who's your favourite singer in Bollywood?
I'm a big fan of Kishoreda and Rafi saab. I've to admit that Sonu Nigam and Udit Narayan are my personal favourites.
• So, like whom do you want to become?
I respect these singers but I want to stand out as different.
• Is this your first visit to the city?
Yes. The only place that I've visited till now is this private FM channel and I'm touched by the hospitality of people here. I wonder if the city is like this!
• So, who is the bigger idol — Abhijeet Sawant or Sandeep Acharya?
Abhijeet has won the competition much before I did and he's very popular among the Indian audience. There can hardly be a comparison here. He's idol number one, I'm idol number two — that's how I would like to put it. Soon, I'm going on a tour to UK with him, where we'll be sharing the stage. I'm really excited at the idea and looking forward to it.
