Nawabi fanfare bowls over singing idols

Lucknow, March 25: After setting the small screen on fire with their singing talent, the three finalists of Indian Idol- N C Karunya, Anuj Sharma and Sandeep Acharya- were in the city to further ignite passion. And what Lucknow gave them was something they did not imagine. ''I am totally surprised by the massive attention and the huge fan following we got here. No other city gave us so much love and affection and we will never be able to forget Lucknow for the rest of our lives,'' said a rather bedazzeled Anuj, who has a Masters degree in music, belongs to Himanchal and came to Delhi few months ago to do a course in sound recording. A regular performer on stage, AIR Shimla and AIR FM Delhi, he has also released 30 odd Himanchali folk song albums.

And life has definitely not been the same since Indian Idol happened about five months back. ''It feels very great when people try to touch you and ask for autographs. Things have changed so much and no doubt we have a very hectic schedule but we are becoming used to it as success does cost you something,'' he said. As far as his journey to the final three is concerned, he thanked god for it. ''I was voted out in the piano round but I was lucky enough to be called back as one of the contestant fell ill and left the show. I was also in the bottom two in the last round with Amit Date and had a narrow escape as Amit was voted out by the people of India. We all felt bad at his exit as he is a very good singer and even the judges staged a walk out. But eventually, there is going to be only one Indian Idol and two of us will have to go, depending on the decision taken by Indians,'' he added. For the shy and ever-smiling Sandeep Acharya, who belongs to Rajasthan, music is a way of life. ''I never imagined getting all this stardom in such a short time. Though I had been learning classical music for the past three years, I was only restricted to folk songs and have also released 12 of them. But after I stood second in the golden voice of Rajasthan contest and avidly followed Indian Idol-I, I decided to have a go and have so far succeeded. As far as the allegation of copying Udit Narayan is concerned, both in voice and in smile, Sandeep proudly says ''I do tend to sing songs that have been sung by Uditji because my voice suits his songs. As far as my smile is concerned, it comes naturally and no one can copy anyone's natural expression.'' For the rather subtle of the three, Abhishek Bachchan lookalike N C Karunya, all the glitz and galmour has made little difference to his line of thought. ''It was a rigourous job to break into the top three and once all this is over, I will try to give my third year B Tech exams, as I have missed a lot of papers,'' he said. As far as his success is concerned till now, Karunya gets rather philosophical. ''It is not the zenith of success where I intend to reach. No doubt I will reach a professional high if I win the competition, but I will keep the learning process on throughout life as nobody can ever become perfect,'' he said. Being a Hyderabadi, he made an interestig revelation about his Hindi and Punjabi. ''I never missed even a single episode of the 700-episode long 'Swabhiman' and it helped me a lot. Besides I am also an avid reader and like to read any kind of literature when I get time. I have also done playback songs in a couple of Tamil Films as I love learning various languages. I love dancing and try to squeeze in some innovative steps during my stage performances,'' he said.

As far as the strugglers are concerned, all the three toppers advised them never to loose patience and keep on practicing. They are also firm on their decision to pursue singing as a career no matter who becomes the next singing idol.

yeah, hes very intelligent, hes still serious abt his studies and i really liked wat he said abt success.

btw he has said tht he has sung 2 tamil songs, i need 2 find what those songs are
