Don't indulge in excessive promotion

It is nice to see the members promoting their favorites by creating fan clubs and polls to see to it that their favorite wins the contest. Fine! Nobody's against this practice but have we all given a thought that too much of promotion can back-fire our favorites' chances of winning? You may not agree with me now but it is true and you will realize it later. It has worked earlier too…remember the India-shining endorsement for instance which even the very charismatic and popular leader like Vajpayee (all due respects) couldn't save! I'm not comparing a high profile India Shining endorsement with Indian Idol 2 but I'm sure and also worried that if members adopt the same strategy it might work against their favorites' chances of winning the contest. Be it the India-shining campaign or any other movie (will not take names deliberately); excessive promotion has always failed to fetch the desired result.

The logic here is that when you endorse excessively the expectations of people rise way too higher than they should expect. This leads to pre-conceived notion in them about a particular contestant and each and every performance is observed under the microscope and anything less delivered than their expectations is immediately discarded and as it turns out the hopes hit the ground hard. If you take movies for instance, have you ever wondered why we had so many block busters in the 80s and early 90s and so few thereafter? The culprit is excess promotion. People come to know the story, script and even editing in some cases much before the movie is released. This pre-release information of the movie kills the thrill involved in it only and only because people expected it to be better and that's why we remember songs of some movies but not their names. One of the reasons attributed to the super success of Hum Aapke Hain Kaun was low profile and no promotion at all. Few years later, we had Hum Saath Saath Hain from the same production house and we all know the fate it met only and only because it was excessively promoted and people had very high expectations.

In Qazi's case, it worked out because he was liked not because of his singing abilities but for his histrionics and I'm sure had it been not a singing competition but a drama competition, someone else would have won the trophy. So, the same strategy need not work in the case of other contestants, especially II2 where you have fabulous singers. To promote excessively is nothing but suicidal for your favorite. As fans you might as well pretend not to have looked their flaws and vote for your favorites but people who hear them will not. You may not believe it now but later you will definitely. Please go ahead at the risk of your favorites!

Excellent Post. Well thought out and backed by examples. The only thing I would add to this is that it's not a good idea to formulate opinions on who should be the II2 winner until all the contestants have been heard singing different types of songs. What's the rush to judgement anyway? Enjoy the journey and postpone the decision until later.

blah blah blah blah.......will you stop this **** already you are the biggest hypocrite on this whole forum who is always trying to give lectures to everybody out here, first about the maharashtrian shit then you started a post about multiple ID shit wherein you were the one trying to make 4 different ID's trying to prove you are right and was warned by the moderators of having four different ID's, have you forgotten that already.

Will you stop this already if you want to give lectures you can go to some university and lecture out there we don't have time to listen to your crap and don't try to give me a lecture like you tried to give aditya formula, because I can give you a bigger lecture then you would have ever got in your whole life at one go.

Please let people do what they want to and let us all enjoy this forum please don't pollute this forum with your nasty post.😡😡😡

If you think I'm a hypocrite then don't just read my messages. You can very comfortably avoid reading my lectures. As far as the Maharashtrian shit is concerned, I think more than me people like you have abused it over and over again. No, I have not forgotten that I was warned by moderators and that's why I changed my language of expression but you seem to have learnt nothing from it and I know who is making you do all this. It's a real surprise that these kinds of messages don't attract moderator's attention. What a shame on part of this forum that its standards have fallen so low! You very well stand by your name….you are wicked and so is your thinking. I'm waiting for the lecture of my life from your end. Let me see if you are worth your spine.
