What a lovely collection of Kishoreda songs! Here are two of his earliest renditions, composed by Anil Biswas,

Doesn't he sound a bit like Saigal over here? Saigal was Kishoreda's idol and he used to imitate him. One day S D Burman told him that he needs to build his own style in order to be successful. So here we have a classic example of how one of our greatest legends started out his career adopting the style of his idol and then eventually built a style of his own which millions have then tried to follow.

I agree with you my friend.
Kishore da's elder brother Ashok Kumar Sahib introduced him to film industry but he wasn't interested in acting because he wanted to become a play back singer and used to sing all the time at home thus Ashok Kumar took him to S.D. Birman. Thats how he got his first break. Not only him even Mukesh Chandra Mathur Sahib used to copy/imitate Kundan Lal Sehagal but later developed their own style. Today also most of the budding singers imitate either Rafi or Kishore. If you guys remember Dil jalta hai to jalne de, sung by Mukesh, you will understand what I'm trying to say.
Sonu Nigam started his singing career by singing Rafi Sahib's songs live on stage.
I don't think anybody has posted Jhumru yet -
