I don't think any songs have been better than the original singers. Definitely we've heard good renditions on these reality shows that would give the original songs a run for their money. But I doubt there's any performance that I could wholeheartedly say was better than the original. I don't think we'd know that until we took these reality show contestants into a studio and had them record the same way that the original playback singers have recorded the song.

Of course if you're only comparing live performances, then we can have a discussion here. Many of our playback singers are terrible live performers!

Rakesh Maini's chappa chappa charkha chale was better than the original. Specially the piece where he sings "chunni leke soti thi kamaal lagti thi ......biba" watch Salim when he sings this part. And Sunidhi said it will take a long time for her to get this performance out of her mind.

I think it is incorrect. Sreeram is not an established singer. He sang 1-2 songs ..and till he mentioned it, none knows about it.

If you ask me, Shashi is more known than Sreeram ... So, let us not call him as an established singer. He is still struggling to make his way ... and he chose Indian idol as a platform ..

I think all contestants sang 1-2 songs .. either in movies or private albums .. or some performances.

Here's my stance on the topic. I don't think any singer can sing a song better than the original singer. I mean there is a reason that a particular song is given to a singer. Because every music director knows (or should know) which singer is capable for a particular song. Take Mere Dholna for instance. We have had many singers in reality shows take on that song. A very hard song to sing indeed. Some singers have come extremely close to matching up with Shreya ji's standards, but I don't think its possible for anyone to sing better than the original singer. But here are exceptions and for me the exception is Maiya Maiya sung by Mauli. I'll let you all decide which is the better version?

For me Mauli should have been singing the original track!

But overall I don't think any reality show singer can go above the original singer. Yes they can match the original singer but can't do better than them!

Rakesh Maini sings most of Punjabi track songs very well...even better than the originals....

Sreeram sings most of the songs as good as or even better ( Khwaja mere....) than the originals......

Swaroop gives some songs the folk touch so in those songs he sounds better...but he does a poor job at romantic ones.....
