There was one another thread where someone suggested that there should be a classical round in Indian Idol. To be honest I am not in favour of a Classical Round because it will be unfair to the contestants who are not classically trained.

Instead I think Indian Idol should have a non-orchestra round where all the contestants should be made to sing without any music. This would be a good test for all the singers.

SaReGaMa Mega-Final 1998 had a non-orchestra round.

That's interesting. I feel that the real beauty of a singer's voice can only be felt when they sing without any orchestra. It is actually challenging because the music tends to hide your flaws sometimes, but without it you have no shelter, you have to sing on target. So, I am all in favour for such a round. A good suggestion indeed BB.

Brilliant suggestion!! Sometimes the background music can lend support to vocal surs, so this round would bring across how truly "sur mein" the contestants are.
Plus the basic voice quality can also be accessed more accurately with an unshielded voice.
Lastly sometimes better orchestration on a particular song can make the overall song sound more effective - so in this case its unfair when diff contestants get diff songs with diff background orchestration.

There used to be a Piano round in earlier II seasons. ...but yes singing without an orchestra is challenging!

That's basically an unplugged round, like they had in MKMM Dil Se right? Or do you want ONLY chords to be played?

I would love to see how people perform in such a round. But I guess there won't be any for a simple reason they were auditioned without orchestra.

Well that Piano round I think only took place before Galas. Don't remember exactly if any Piano round was there in Galas too.

No music at all. Like the way Parthiv is singing in the video.
