Lot of allegations are made against him about his song selection. Although I don't deny those allegations but still credit must go to him for delivering almost all his performances successfully.
I agree with you. For me he was the best performer. Though it was a simple song compared with the rest, but the way he handled it with excellent feel, and flawless singing, it definitely deserves an applaud. I liked his recent performance on 'Aahun Aahun' in the elimination round as well, it was different from his typical genre of singing.
