Round 6: K.S. Chithra

Great singing by Chithraji as usual.


She starts off singing slow, with good feel, you can just imagine the actress in those sequences. And then the real dance song begins. Very well done there as well. You needed some quick pronunciation, while singing at a higher pitch, and then coming back down and start singing slow again, not as easy as it sounds.

The post-main sequences weren't that difficult I thought. Well at least as much as the main-sequences. So not much to say there.


Overall, great singing by K.S. Chithra. Great voice quality, and she did the more difficult main-sequences pretty well. Flawless in those sequences. But besides for that, there wasn't really anything impressive shown. I mean, she still sang very well, but she didn't impressive other than the main sequences where she excelled.

So overall, same level as Kavita and Shreya this round, which means you are in good company.

I don't have time to write my full analysis. I'm sorry. This week's been super hectic. But I have listened to each and every song in this round thoroughly. Sorry for any inconvenience. My apologizes to the rest of the judges. I barely have any time to myself. Its either work or class. This week is just one crazy week!

Good background music!

Chitra ji really impressed me with her Bani Bani chorus and the parts around it, like the Ab Kya Kare Dil Deewana and the Heyyee, but other than that, it was ordinary singing by her. I give her an 8!

Interesting song..

Another piece of good singing. Chitra ji introduces variations with the expressions, which is quite notable and appreciable factor of singing in this song. She shrieks in the higher notes, which is the low point.

The way she lowers her tone for the line "Ab Kya Karain.." is interesting to note. Passions are there reflected with the situation nicely. Somewhere I felt the throw could have been improved, it could have been more powerful. It could not impress me much like a dance number it should have, basically for the lack of energy.

So, my marks for this performance will be 7 out of 10.

Wah - it's great to see the Anu Malik presence this round, with 'Ishq Kamina' for Alka and now 'Bani Bani' fro Chitra. 'Bani Bani' is an entertaining pop song, with dramatic cadences and catchy choruses. Ending the chorus with 'Haay' is a typical Malik touch, as is the percussion track, which has Anu's favourite theka and his beloved voice samples. This one's going on my iPod!

I think it's a very difficult song. It goes high and low. It's got the harkats and the small inflexions which I love and always look for. Chitra did full justice to the composition as her voice is one of the few that can go so many places and do so many things! In fact, she probably went beyond the scope of the song and added some awesome vocal dynamics: the way she emphasises the drops, the way softens on some words, or the way her voice tenses on words like 'tadpan'. This is the sort of attention to detail I expect from Kavita K.

I would say the song is 8.5 in difficulty. And I'd be happy to give Chitra 9/10 for the expression, pronunciation and 'acting' in her song.
