Swaroop, a young Muslim boy from a caste of musicians, leaves his desert village in search of work with his Uncle Nizam. Swaroop is an innocent and curious 14 year-old boy who is discovering the world outside of his isolated village. Nizam takes opium regularly and scams money in any way he can. Swaroop and Nizam travel together, join Nizam's musician friends, and perform at roadside locations along the way. Nizam's greed and use of religious rhetoric lead to the break up of the small group of musicians and eventually to Swaroop heading off on his own in the city. Swaroop tries to adapt to his ever-changing circumstances of being a traveling musician in a world he has just discovered. In the city, Swaroop meets Santosh, a young Hindu boy studying to become a priest. Santosh decides to join Swaroop to become a musician. The two boys quickly find themselves in a world of malls and multinationals.

Milk & Opium leaves the viewer questioning what will become of Swaroop and traditional India. The film features outstanding traditional Sufi music with a twist of fusion. All of the actors play themselves in a unique neo-realist style cinema.

Sounds like a good movie...Swaroop Khan acted in this movie...Wow...

thank you for posting the names... i had a hard time remembering them all... :)

i really like shivam... he has a lot of potential... i hope he continues to perform well... i would like to see him in the top 5, at least... naushad also has a lot of potential... i like swaroop too... just hope he picks up the bolly songs well too, otherwise, it'll be tough for him in the competition...

bhumi is my favourite from the girls so far...

which competition has yashraj won...?

Thanks for the useful information xobile. The topic subject was actually one of the questions in my mind! Haven't got familiar with a few faces still.

There I found some interesting points about the contestants, Which I would like to share:

It is written that: Arvind has been the winner of show 'Waar Parivaar'. Wasn't it a show of Sony Television? Isn't it strange?

Meghna is a first year Bachelor of Arts student from Jhansi University. She suffers from the Tunnel Vision syndrome wherein the vision diminishes as the person grows older due to reduced retina over a period of time. According to her doctors, she will completely lose her eyesight by end of 2010.
- That is really tragic! I was shocked to read this..But I also appreciate the courage of this girl, amazing!

21-years old Sashi Suman has been very passionate about singing since he was in his teens. Since he never got adequate encouragement and support from his parents, therefore he left home seven years ago to chase his dreams. He travelled in Banaras, Lucknow and Madhya Pradesh with just Rs. 1000/- to hunt for good music universities.
- Look at the dedication! Hhhmmmm...

18-years old Yashraj Kapil was a winner of a reality show on television. Even though he emerged victorious and gained recognition, his career came to a standstill and he continued to struggle to get due credit for his talent in the music industry.
- Another sad story! what's the point of reality shows then!?!

Welllll...interesting lot of singers, most of them are untrained I guess..lets see how they achieve more command in singing as they go along with the show..but by watching these unsuccessful winners, I really have come to think that the claim-to-fame of reality shows is just an illusion.

about two or three of them are winners of other reality shows..........so how can they be allowed to participate in this!!!

the gyal from manisha, vishwas and kapil to name a few, they are winners............that is not fair on the other contestants!!

Thanks xobile...now I remember the contestants' names.

I like Shashi and Shivam among the boys and Manisha/ Bhoomi/ Tia among the girls..somehow have never liked Yashrak Kapil but foresee him getting a lot of votes.
