abhijeet sawant, rahul vaidya, prajakta shukre, emon chatterjee, monali thakur, Karunya Nc, Bhannu, Rajdeep chaterjee, Amit Paul (who has recently sung a song from luck by chance), Amey Date, Rahul Saxena and many more were amazing singers

Sandeep and Prashant were both besure, especially Prashant. And let's put it this way, that Sourbhee is the least besuri of the three finalists. The 4 seasons of II have been filled with so many besure singers...it's not even funny. And I have already mentioned that I don't think there's anything great about any of those singers except Karunya when compared to SRGMP singers...so I don't get the point of you taking those names again and again. As for how popular those songs were..well neither was mar jawan or pyar ki dastan that popular. You can say they were as popular as Mera dil.

It reminds me of what Javed saab said last season. AC gaadi ka fayda kya, agar gadi chal hi nahi sakti. 😆 Well I guess some people prefer just sitting there in that AC car even if it takes them nowhere. 😛

Frankly I don't care how these singers look. Udit Narayan is not the most handsome man in the world but I still love him as a singer. Sukhwinder Singh has the most hideous dressing sense but do we care about that when listening to him sing...or even while watching his concerts?

About II "grooming" the singers. How about they quit wasting that much time and money on the looks and try grooming their voices instead. That's what happens in SRGMP, which is why we see improvement in the singers as the show goes on. II's quality just continously deteriorates. As each week passes by, the singers might start looking more beautiful but their voices start sounding ugly.

About the sets..II has the same boring look all the time. SRGMP changes it every week to suit the theme. I agree they went overboard this year, but in 07 and LC2 they did some really nice stuff with the sets....like having the whole "mehfil" set up for qawalli theme and stuff like that. Oh that also reminds me, the themes in SRGMP are usually better, and they are more free with their format. For example, they have duet rounds with the judges/hosts/guests and stuff.

Let's just say both shows are true to their names. SaReGaMaPa is more about sur while Indian Idol takes Indians and turns them into decorated idols (statues).

Well said. The only thing with SRGMP is that it seems to have lost its charm and credibility a bit too. If you have been watching the show since the time it was hosted by Sonu, you'd see the charm has been lost. You dont get classical singers like Lataji or legandary music directors like O P Nayyar coming on the show.

Instead you get mockery by havin g Himesh and the rest who keep giving everyone history. And crowd pullers like Asma for gaining publicity.

Not that II is much better. I dont see a single reason to why Sonali Bendre is on the show. IMO Javed is the only decent judge.

And i dont see the reason for all the glam. If you want glam watch a fashion show. You want proper sur watch a singing contest!

@shehzaadi91........well said.......completely agree with you.

@sneha3105..........ya SRGMP has lost a bit of its credibility........In my opinion since they started public voting the focus has been more on creating controversies to attract public attention.........but nevertheless the quality of singers is far better than II........and completely agree with your last sentence.

Is it too much to expect Zee to invest money which they are getting out of the audience, on the contestants themselves?

ya u r right its not a perfect world & appearances do matter........but i would still like to believe that those who are true music lovers will always give singing preference over anything else.

Also its not like the SRGMP contestants are shabbily dressed........maybe the glam quotient is not high as in II.......but they are definitely presentable.......atleast most are.

Indian Idol isnot only looking for singers but also performance also, best perfomers are from inian idol, and god knows how many overseas shows all of the have done, especiall indian idol 1 contestants, i think glam is important
and i think Kailash kher and Anu Malik being a composer ans singer are good judges, and sonali looks at the oomph and the X-factor
and I dun hear those sara wa jai ho mangal mah ho crap
do u think sumone like aadesh shrivastav is worthy of judgin? he stopped composing good songs 10 years ago, and i hate all the frikin controversial crap of zee shows, enjoyed Star Voice of India 1 a lot! the singers, the presentation was amazing, the judges were great, the comments were to the point, and Ishmeet Singh is an amazing singer! but i have never in my life liked SRGMP challeng, use to luv it, when sonu nigam and shaan use to host, and only judges use to judge! when Gajendra singh was dere

Plus half of the people in SRGMP are not even from india, as if like india doesn't have enough talent
my personal opinion is the best winners have been from Indian Idol 1and Star Voice of India 1 and noth these programs have produced exceptional singers! I only like vineet in zee tv, and i think there's way too much controversy, D-grade jokes in this show to get me hooked up, and that's my personal opinion. and just because u hear himesh saying the best are here, and just see Glam in Indian Idol, u instantly thinok that Indian idol dun have good singers
all the idol programmes have had exceptional singers, its just the ones who won were the least deserving!!!

>>all the idol programmes have had exceptional singers, its just the ones who won were the least deserving!!!
That is very frustrating, don't you think!!! That is the primary beef with II. The most deserving singer does not win. In fact this year the difference between the best (Rajdeep) and the second best (take your pick) was so big that you wonder whether the audience is completely tone deaf or heartless. Reminds me of an old joke about one time English football team. The team composition:
Rubbish, Rubbish, Rubbish, Rubbish,Rubbish,Rubbish,Rubbish,Rubbish,Linekar,Rubbish,Rubbish.
Substitute that with II4 and you have a good idea of this year. (Now don't split hairs, I do not mean everybody was Rubbish).
Regarding who gets what song to sing. Bollywood is a very difficult place to get a chance unless you are from a filmy family and then you get chance after chance. So the one who succeeds may not be the best singer but the one in the right place in the right time.
Liked the car with AC analogy. The corollary is it is very easy to put an AC than getting the car to run. So why doesn't ZEE do the simple steps right (fire and replace the set designer, costume designer, just fire Himesh since he is irreplaceable) because year after year it is able to do the difficult step (choosing the best singer, dancer and groom their talents) correctly.

Also I noticed that the moderators possibly removed the discussion titled "Sonali Bendre way out of order".
Censorship not good for webrant-cracy.
