The Objective Scorecard

Different participants, Different Judges, Different hosts, but one thing consistent in Indian Idol is inconsistency. Erratic voting patterns, shock eliminations and constant arguments on who did better. Even though we want to be objective we all have our favorites, I too find myself rooting for someone despite being less than ordinary because they are my personal favorite. So this year I decided why not create an objective scorecard. So I created an excel spreadsheet where I can score participants based on singing, performance, personality and consistency based on weights I personally thought were reasonable. I also created subcategories in singing, performance and personality to reflect various aspects of these categories. Plug in marks out of ten for each category/sub category and the final column gives a total score out of hundred based on the weights of each category.

I thought I would share the spreadsheet with everyone so we can all have a shot at objective scoring and those who are in countries where they can vote...objective voting. Share this on with everyone who wants to objectively score/vote participants. I will add more links if this does not work.

This is by no means perfect and has scope for improvement. Please do share your perspectives on scoring? Let me know if there should be more/less categories, different weights etc. Any ideas on how to better explain/define the categories. Based on majority suggestions I will try and make a new one for when we get down to top 5.

If people like this and are up for it we can start a new thread where we post our scores and ranking based on how we scored people on the scorecard. This way we can compare how we rank the participants as well as see if the juntas elimination matches average scoring.

kudos to u.!

i like when ppl do work that pleases others. when ppl know about music. and aren't afraid to share 'em.

here only 10% ppl really know how to judge. but 100% judge!

so this should be good for all.

it is very difficult to judge with any kind of formatted criteria.

the best performace is always that brings our tears in the eyes or the

song that initiates hyteria in the floor. (though i prefer the first one)

in these situations the points do not add up.

everything is taken by the 'performance' thingy.

differnt circumstance, differnt level of participants, differnt judges, differnt voice textures,

different song quality/difficulty..makes uniform judging impossible.

does any reality show brings out the best contestant as a winner . no..

there are lots of other factors there. the emotional side. the partiality side.

i always had this 'dil' and 'dimag' list.

dil wants some one to win. emotioanl reason.

dimag says the more correct thing. sur and tal thing. performance on the day.

what ends up, some thing else.

we have seen it all in VOI. the tempers and the tantrums.

and good renditions have been thrashed by temperamental judges and Ok song have been praised too much..

inspite of all this, your performance and personality and consistency.. are v good points to judge with.

but does any of these work? no.

i would give following v v simplified criteria (if i had only 4 choices/criteria):

and yes this will also not work....if used by anyone other than me..
1. nearness to the original: 10% (no matter how newness one brings, i feel a touch of the original rendering brings that 'essence' ....)

2. consistency: 20 % (karunya can have 2 off songs, but other 8 songs more than make up that)

3. performance/ease/confidence: 30% it really can change judges judging criteria. differnt stylish input to a song? everyone will like.

4. sur and tal: all should have mastered by now. but still 40%. (judging can vary with the difficulty level of the song)
