Indian Idol 14 - Audition Round Performance Discussion (14&15 Oct'23)

What a pleasant surprise today's episode was! Except few promoted performances, I was expecting this weekend to be filler but it was totally opposite. It was as good as opening weekend, if not better.

I loved Gayathry, Shubhodeep, Ananya & Ajay's performances. I liked Shubho when he came in season 11 too and I felt he deserved better. Not sure if he should have participated again or not but definitely he is a very good singer.

Surendra, the auto driver, his intro portion was superb and rest of the performance was OK. Probably he is not trained? But he has potential.

Rajat Rathore's voice is gold and he performed really well too. His singing style is something like Sana from SRGMP I feel, which is trendy these days. Let's see if he can do different things too or not.

Ajay's performance was very good and that violin part was beautiful.

Overall a really nice episode.

BTW I am thinking, are they going to select more than 15 contestants this time? 7-8 golden mikes have been already given and tomorrow's episode is still left. Selection pool is really strong, so picking only 15 from them will be a big challenge.

Same thought. Soo many good singers. Difficult to choose also. Maybe this time creative team is different.

Another awesome episode for this extremely promising season.

Gayatri had a very good and versatile performance. She's not one of my favorites but you can't deny her talent.

Subhadeep gives me Arjit Singh vibes. I know people say that too much about a lot of people, but he sounds so much like him, while having a slight distinction to his voice that makes him feel different. His ad libs were great and he can be a contender. Let's be honest though, he already won because he got to sing a classic song with Shreya today. That is a lifelong memory that is priceless.

Ananya was really good. I always have a soft spot for singers who sing Lata songs and do them well so I liked her a lot. Her backstory is going to win a lot of people over too because really, how can you not feel for her?

Manas was also great. Tanishq was sublime. How many good singers can one show have?

Maithili is good at what she does. I'll never love that style of singing but she's got talent, I can't deny that.

Surendar. Wow. Goosebumps within seconds of him starting singing. There's layers to his voice and I was so absorbed by his start that I never even realized he was singing Mast Kalandar. I have no idea how far he'll go but if sings the kind of songs that fit his voice, he has a very high ceiling.

The cop stuff was well done. Just enough of a prank without going too far. Really good performance too.

I forgot the name of the guy who sang Abhi Mujh Me Kahi, but that song is one of the best of this generation and he did justice to it.

Ronita was also really good. She captured the essence of Rangeela Re and recreated it wonderfully. I have a feeling that I'll get sick of her mom if Ronita advances far enough, since this show's producers have a history of having at least one relative get over-exploited with their silliness, but oh well.

The preview for the next episode was very promising. How is this show so consistently good so far my god.

This episode was the biggest evidence of how great a move it was to get Shreya to return as a coach. The way she handled Ananya's story, singing with Subhadeep and just her natural personality is exactly what this show needed after how things went in recent years.

To go further, the chemistry amongst all the Judges continues to give off great vibes. There's genuine respect amongst all of them. You can tell how much Vishal especially is loving it. He doesn't have to carry the other judges like in recent seasons, there's no bs drama like there used to be during Himesh seasons that are plaguing another show right now, etc. Everything just feels natural and he seems to be so calm and normal because of that. I haven't felt this good about any adults show's judges in so long.

Long story short is that I love this season and I am praying it can stay this good.

I just caught up with the 3 episodes. My word! Such amazing talent! So far I have found it hard to short list a few as my favourites.

And what can be said about Shreya Ghoshal and Kumar Sanu. Beyond everything else, just getting to listen to them is a treat!

Yet regarding the contestants they still only continue to praise praise praise and nothing else,often even repeating the same thing said to previous contestants in other seasons, something I dislike immensely and I very much doubt anything will change going forward. As for the bs drama is concerned, give it time,they will do that too because the showmakers can't help but stick to the same boring formula. It really disappoints me to see these experienced legendary professionals simply become channel puppets.

So it's going to be Top 14 only. Probably 15 or 16 at max. I hope they make a good selection.

I watched a little bit of todays episode and all the singers were fantastic!! I really wonder how the judges will choose from such a talented pool.

The jr Kumar Sanu was fantastic, if you closed your eyes you wouldn’t even know who was singing.

Love shreya and Kumar Sanu. Great to have such talented singers as judges.
