Chapter 2

Imlie had written stories by hand but the rules of the competition had stated only the stories typed in word document will be accepted. No scanned copy was allowed.

Since Imlie didn't have laptop, she was now sitting in the college computer lab typing out her stories, one day prior to the competition end date. Filling in her details, she entered her personal email Id which she had just created. Taking Sita Maiyyas name she submitted her stories.

Imlie was late again but this time no one was waiting for her to scold or lecture. She quietly went to her makeshift room. One of the conditions, Tripathi family kept to allow her to stay here was that she live in separate room away from AKT. After arguing for several days, AKT conceded to their demands.

After having dinner alone in her room, she checked her email on the smartphone which was once owned by Babusaheb. She had received acknowledgment mail from Bhaskar Times that the entry has been received & results will be announced shortly.

She heard a commotion near her room, it was almost midnight. Babusaheb was drunk and supporting him was Malini Didi.

Babusaheb was complaining to her. "Mera naya boss mujhse nafrat karta hai. Aise ghoor ke dekhta hai wo mujhe jaise mein Bhaskar times me trespass kar raha hu. Mujhe jis story pe kaam karna tha wo mere junior ko diya. Aur pure Bhaskar times ki kaya palat karne pe tula hai" he slurred & tripped on the sofa.

"Aur mujhe kisi celebrity ki naye movie ka trailer launch pe lagaya hua hai. Kal se wo celebrity bharat ke alag alag kone me promotion karega aur mujhe usse pehle uska interview lena hai"

Malini Didi was listening to him patiently and was murmuring assurances.

"Aur Imlie aaj kal late aane lagi hai college se. Aaj Maa ne message kiya mujhe ki aaj usko bohot late hua aane me kisi ke saath ghoom rahi thi shayad, nahi toh college se aaj kal late kyu aati ha" Imlie was shocked to her that Tripathi's were trying to create a rift by insinuating that she was having an affair with someone.

Malini Didi was using this opportunity to further the rift by saying that Imlie was young and naive and he should not expect her to take this forced marriage seriously.

Malini Didi took Babusaheb to his room and Imlie went back to hers. Babusaheb was quick to judge her without even trusting her or trying to find out her side of the story.

Next Day, Malini Didi was having breakfast with Tripathi clan laughing and joking as if she was the bahu of this house. As soon as, AKT arrived with his suitcase she went to him and they both left. She heard Tripathi's comparing her with Malini Didi. How Malini Didi was dropping AKT to airport to interview the celebrity in Chennai before the actor's film promotion event.

Imlie hurried and went to college empty stomach. She was late, everyone in her class was talking about the stories they have written and the writing style they have used. The Professor started her lecture.

Imlie remembered her first day in college when she proudly mentioned her first published Hindi article in Pagdandia. How she had interviewed her dadda, Baghi Satyakaam and presented his revolutionary ideas to transform Pagdandia.

Everyone had made fun of her that she had written Hindi article in a local village newspaper and not in established English newspaper. Her professor had intervened and strictly scolded the students. She still remembered her advice "Kahani Kahani hoti hai chahe kisi bhi language mein ho bas acchi likhi honi chahiye "

Chapter 3

Imlie was waiting for the results. It has been a week since submitting her stories. What a week! First, she accidentally saw Malini Didi hugging & kissing AKT on his cheeks. AKT didn't react, he just continued talking about his work drunk after returning from Chennai.

His interview was rejected by his new boss who had already sent another reporter to cover the Chennai promotional event. At the event, the reporter was successful in getting the actor's interview which got published the next day along with another article covering the promotional event. The reporter received a round of applause when he went to office the next day. AKT was recollecting the events in office.

His new boss, according to him insulted him in front of the whole office by publicly rejecting his article & complementing the reporter's article in same sentence. Malini Didi reassured him that if he wants she could arrange a famous celebrity's interview who was her mother's friend. He rejected her offer as he was assigned to cover sports section. IPL season was about to begin in full swing.

Imlie heard the notification ting and checked her phone. She had received a mail from Bhaskar times. She was shortlisted among few other participants for another round.

She had heard that there were three panels judging the stories & short listing them.She had cleared the first round just after 3 days she had received the notification & today she cleared second round also.

After third & final round, the stories selected will be reviewed by the new boss and he'll select. Apparently, the number of interns to be selected had not been disclosed nor the seats available. She hoped to be one of the selected. No one knew about this except her, only because AKT was complaining to Malini Didi how he, a respected senior journalist wasn't invited to be part of the panel & how he got know about this from his old boss who was tasked with supervising this competition.

This had become a norm, AKT would drink alcohol in evenings & vent about his new boss. Malini Didi would accompany him sympathising. Imlie could hear all this from her room without stepping out. She understood this was by design something Malini Didi wanted to show her that she still is the one whom AKT runs to.

Imlie didn't react because she didn't feel anything, maybe she had become numb or she was just busy focusing on her future to even care. This relationship already had started on shaky grounds & now was crumbling bit by bit. Imlie acknowledged that but didn't care enough to mend it. Just few months, she'll complete her college, secure this internship & then she would decide what she would do. Until then, she would keep quiet & not react.

Few days passed, Malini & AKT would often go out on outings. Imlie would hear Tripathi clan purposely would talk loudly discussing how AKT & Malini were perfect for each other and they could hear wedding bells ringing soon when she was around. AKT had started talking to his family again & it seems now AKT was also boycotting her along with his family.

She went to college, her classmates were discussing about the rejection mail they had received after third round. Only 3 students from her class including her hadn't received it. It would mean that, her articles would be one of the selected articles that would be reviewed by AKTs new boss. One of students just had received rejection mail. She was praying to Sita Mayya & bribing her that if she got selected, she would make shuddh ghee ke ladoo as prasad for her.

Finally she received a mail from Bhaskar times, she was requested to attend zoom meeting were the final results will be declared. It was scheduled on next to next Saturday, three weeks from today.

Her exams were about to start from next week.

Imlie just finished writing her last exam. She went back home only to receive the most shocking news.

AKT & Malini had slept together.To rectify this mistake, Tripathi clan wanted AKT to marry Malini. AKT saw her & went back to his room. The next day, AKT called everyone including her to the dining room. He announced that he's divorcing Imlie & marrying Malini soon.

AKT was about to go back to his room when Imlie stopped him. She told him she would divorce him on one condition. He will provide her with alimony until she doesn't marry again. If he failed to accept this condition, she'll see him in court and make things harder for him to get divorce.

She went back to her room without looking at anyone. Imlie called one person whom she vowed not to call - her biological dad.

She wanted to hurt AKT & Malini. And she knew just how to do it.
