Dude don't ask...I was admin-ing an AT previously that used to finish threads in a few hours and it became so much pressure after a point ki I swore off IF as a whole when I started waking up thinking about having to make the next thread 😂😂😂 (and now I'm back, uff, blame these two dumbasses)

Twitter is kinda more fun sometimes due to less... censorship, let's call it, but there's a certain charm to engaging here. It does get addictive 🤣

Probably why Aryan as a character clicks so well, he's empathetic and supportive and protective and indulgent and all the other stuff, but like you said, it's pampering in the right way. He affords her the respect of treating her like an adult, and calls her on her crap, and it can be slow, but she is growing.

Compared to the wrong kinda pampering afforded to Raja Betas of the world, where all mistakes are swept under the rug... I mean we don't have to look far, our girl's very own ex husband is a perfect example.

yes!!! and i was thinking about the raja beta thing and honestly look at how perfect aryan is as a son, he gets SO mad at imlie for lying to his mom when he never lies to her (vs akt lying every second of his life!)

imlie really is just the perfect example of what happens when you're surviving abuse but can't bring yourself to admit that's what is happening mixed in with both cultural and ITV expectations of the DIL. i really hope however this wedding happens, having narmada and arpita's support will be instrumental to her healing

AM! Do you remember the Jhalli Patakha scene where Imaliya was miming our buoy? That's how I see their relationship. He's indulgent but not condescending. He doesn't infantalise or treat her like a child — unlike other people. Frankly that equation was so creepy on so many levels. With Aryan, she blooms and gleams in her youthfulness without being dominated or infantalised.

Which is a long way to say that the jhalli patakha scene needs to be edited

Yeah, so I haven't watched any pre-Aryan episodes except for a couple of random ones either for vids I was making or clips I came across on SM, but even those glimpses are frankly horrifying in terms of how abusive and toxic the entire set up was.

I mean, honestly, one of my reasons for never checking out this show before was my grandma telling me she can't enjoy so much negativity, and she watches legit every other show on TV, so her thresholds are pretty damn high.

So yeah, Imlie, clear victim of abuse who's definitely internalized an extremely low sense of self. She measures her worth in units of 'services provided' because I don't think she realizes her life has inherent value separate from what she can do for others to 'earn' their love. Which is why she also plays so fast and loose with her own life, it doesn't really compute to her that her dying in the process of serving others may not be a fair trade. Which also, heavily internalized- I mean, the Tripathi family WANTED to send her to a village held hostage by a terrorist to save their son, when in reality if there was unconditional love there, the attitude would have been "one of our kids is already in danger, let's not send another."

There's a lot of such internalized stuff she needs to unlearn to be happy, and that's a frustratingly but also realistically slow and iterative process.

I also think (hope!) to see Arpi and Narmada be a part of this process. I found it interesting, and lovely, that Arpita and Narmada bonded with Imlie wayyyy before Aryan did, and the love between the three women is not tied to Aryan. They love her for her, not as an extension of their son/brother or dependent upon the relationship she shares with him. Infact, I was kindaaaa disappointed with the scene where Aryan tends to Imlie after she comes back all shaken up and caked in mud, because I was hoping for more of a family scene there. You know, all three of them fussing (kinda like the three women ganged up on Aryan when he was ill). But oh well, who are we to turn down a visit to jaaaniyaaaaaa-land?

yes I completely agree with you! I also did not watch the show before Aru entered because I'm Bangladeshi and have seen enough about the original to know that adilie was going to be very cursed so it's been really nice to see something so different with Arylie! It's almost like it's really two different shows? And you can imagine the show having been reset with the entry of Aryan as the ML and therefore this wedding is actually pretty well placed in terms of what time wedding episodes occur when a new show starts. (Hmm, I should add this to my next piece...)

Ask and you shall receive, happy to do an edit ❤️ but remind me which scene this is? Sorry my memory is letting me down 😂😂

I don't remember the particular scene but I 100% agree with this sentiment. Yes, she's young, so indulge her, buy she's an adult, and should be treated as such.

I was personally sold on the ship at the chopsticks scene, because I so agreed with Aryan's logic there. Yes, be yourself, be authentic, but don't let "hum toh aise hi hain" prevent you from growing and learning.

I so hate it when people refuse to grow under the pretense of refusing to change.

(I don't wanna get this thread in trouble by talking about dynamics that creep me out, but oh lord, the sheer abundance of them 🙃)
