I think it's clear now that Arylie is end game. The reality is regardless of what the source material is, any "based on" series will have creative changes, and in this case I think they decided to switch course when they wouldn't be able to stay with their initial ML, which is fine.

Instead of risking changing the actor ASAP they decided to transition the story in a new direction: a big creative risk.

Now, having gone back to watch 310 onwards, they practically shove it in our faces about Aryan being the part of Imlie's life.
