What is negativity really?

I mean neutral viewers don't care about ships and other mushy stuff. So if anyone cares for any ship and suddenly they feel it's not gonna happen, why do they think it's negativity? It shouldn't be negative for them because they don't care about ships. And if they actually care how can they still watch it is beyond me. Isn't this hypocrisy or what.
