1. Forum 32 article
So the Harshad and his chivalry was just time pass. The key message was the ps:
"P.S. - We have read all the comments on your opinion on the change of genre. Do watch before you completely rule it out. Who says, there won't be romance between Aarzoo and Saahir?"
The point is, Twitter, Facebook and this forum (which is a well respect forum might I add) is being trawled through by the makers all the time. The beauty of this age is that makers can gauge feedback immediately. And of course our opinions matter - we are the viewers! The fact is, they tried out the usual stuff, love triangle, nikaah etc but it didn't work and in a way I am happy they are trying something different because at least they have acknowledged that the nikaah sequence was disastrous.
2. Gul's comments
So the key thing acknowledged here is although viewership is low, the popularity of the show is unprecedented. It is rare to get a show with such low trps but such high online activity. I mean, if u check Twitter, a few mins don't go by before you have a tweet related to this show. I don't think the show they took off air had anything close to this. And yes HC draws ppl, but it's HCs portrayal/characterisation, created by the makers that is a large contributing factor to the shows success. They really have done a tremendous job at this and I can't take that credit away from them.
And the same way we want the show to succeed, so do they...you would be a fool to not want to cash in on this show...so do I think they will be shutting the show? Putting my business hat on, I wouldn't at all. They have the potential to make a lot of money here.
3. Creative Teams comments
So Aakash Berry and Shivani Mathur who are the creative team for humsafars have both come online and requested that the viewers watch before they judge.
What I feel is, the same way SAC is completely different then the usual MLs, they are trying to do something similar with this show. I think last week, they bowed to channel pressure and threw some conventional sequences in and it all totally backfired. The reason being, they have created such a strong concept that their core viewership won't won't accept any deviation from it. So the creatives have said, now let us try and do something creative and see what happens. They know the viewers want to see SaAz's relationship develop. Yes they could chuck them in the office together, have the usual nok jhok but this is all been seen and done in various shows. I think they genuinely want to try and show something different.
3. Arzoo
So onto my favourite topic, Arzoo's characterisation. So again here, I think they hear the message loud and clear which is why they are deviating from the track of turning Arzoo into a ruthless business woman. Once again a very conventional track - who wants to see Arzoo lose her usp and turn into a B**** ? It's been seen before. And furthermore, the way they have portrayed her this week, no one liked it and the feedback from viewers has been clear.
4. The spoiler clips
So this leads me to by final point. They released two spoiler clips this weekend both containing clear messages for the viewers. The Ronit Roy one, Harshad is clear - he says Dr Neil plays a part in sorting out Arzoo's mind. And Ronit also mentions that Sahir and Dr Neil are travelling in the same boat - ( ie stubborn women blinded with their ego). So again, there is acknowledgement that yes Arzoo's behaviour is ridiculous but we will soon have her thinking straight.
And finally the SaAz scene which kicks off with Arzoo wondering how Sahir continued loving his first wife through all these years even though they are apart. So they have put Arzoo in an interesting situation. She's married the man she loves under the pretext of money and knowing full well that he is married. Now here comes along his first wife and it starts putting things into perspective for her. Her scene with Sahir yet again has the old Arzoo...the way she is justifying that he need not justify anything was very endearing. So again here I believe the message is, we will have SaAz scenes and we will try and address Arzoo's characterisation.
5. It takes time
So every time they take on feedback, they are doing some significant tweaking (desperate times call for desperate measures I guess) and it takes a few days for the feedback to take effect because they have canned episodes a few days in advance. Hence last week was so disastrous. It looks like they planned for Arzoo to turn into a heartless woman and probably canned a lot of those shots before the nikaah sequence was aired. Saw the bad feedback on the nikaah, deal and Arzoo's characterisation so decided to shift gear. And to be honest, yes there's murder etc going on but the ultimate goal of this serial is and always will be Sahir and Arzoo's journey. They won't forget that, how can they? It's not called humsafars for nothing!
So let's give the makers a chance. Last week was a transition week and they know they won't get good trps. A bad story line takes at least 2 weeks to wind out of. But next week, I am expecting them to be back with a bang. 😊
